The Directors of John Noott Galleries cordially invite you and your friends to meet the artist at the opening
of this exhibition on Saturday 25th October between 11am and 5pm. Champagne will be served.
JOHN HAMMOND has become known as one of Britain’s leading landscape painters working in the
medium of acrylics. Travelling at home and abroad, he continues to explore new and established themes with equal
enthusiasm, always seeking to convey the particular qualities of light and atmosphere he encounters.
Working in an impressionistic style, John builds up complex layers of texture and hue which seem to glow from within.
The paintings which result are both emotionally evocative and visually exciting, and invite an almost physical response
as the viewer feels the warmth of the Mallorcan sun or the chill of an English winter.
The past year has seen John elected as an Academician by The South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts. He has
also been the subject of a short film due for release early next year to coincide with the publication of a book which has
been written about his paintings and working methods.
This exhibition is comprised of some forty new works. The dappled light of a French café scene, the glow of a Provençal
meadow, and the shimmer of reflections on Venice waters are here captured with a vibrant palette and assured
brushwork. To complement these and other Mediterranean themes, we have selected a group of English landscape
paintings that John has produced through the seasons which depict the bountiful Cotswold countryside.
Included in this exhibition are 40 new paintings in acrylics, price range £750 – £3,250.
ILLUSTRATED PAINTINGS ARE FOR SALE ON RECEIPT OF THIS CATALOGUE
JOHN HAMMOND trained at Wimbledon College of Art and at the Bath Academy of Art, graduating in 1982. He
solo shows in Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon, Somerset and Broadway. John has contributed to several art
publications including The Artist, Leisure Painter and International Artist magazines. "Capturing light in acrylics" is
due to be published by Batsford Books next year, together with a video produced by APV Films.
