Courses Carrying More Than One Credit<br />

Des gnated courses n the preemploym<strong>en</strong>t laboratory and cooperat ve educat on areas of CTE may carry more than one (1) cred t.<br />

Credits are based on stud<strong>en</strong>ts being <strong>en</strong>rolled in ext<strong>en</strong>ded periods; i.e., two (2) class periods and/or designated hours at an off-campus<br />

tra n ng stat on. For example, a Career Preparat on Courses carr es three (3) cred ts w th one per od of classroom nstruct on a day n<br />

the traditional schedule and a minimum of fifte<strong>en</strong> (15) hours a week at a training station. At the discretion of the Admission, Review,<br />

and D sm ssal (ARD) comm ttee for spec al educat on placem<strong>en</strong>t, stud<strong>en</strong>ts may earn from a half to three and a half cred ts n an<br />

e ghte<strong>en</strong>-week trad t onal schedule for des gnated work-study courses; e.g., RL1 Transition Workshop 1.<br />

Pregnancy, Education, and Par<strong>en</strong>ting (PEP) Program<br />

The Pregnancy, Educat on, and Par<strong>en</strong>t ng (PEP) Program s des gned to serve school-aged par<strong>en</strong>ts, both mothers and fathers, who<br />

need support to stay n school. Ass st ng stud<strong>en</strong>ts to ach eve academ c success, plan a career, and graduate from h gh school are<br />

the program’s pr mary goals. Case managers mon tor academ c success and coord nate ava lable serv ces from governm<strong>en</strong>t and<br />

commun ty ag<strong>en</strong>c es as needed. Ch ld care may be prov ded at nfant care c<strong>en</strong>ters located on the follow ng campuses: Ca<strong>rro</strong>ll, M ller,<br />

Moody, and Ray H gh <strong>School</strong>s, and the Solomon Coles H gh <strong>School</strong> and Educat on C<strong>en</strong>ter.<br />

Special Education Program<br />

The spec al educat on program prov des a cont nuum of nstruct onal sett ngs des gned to meet the nd v dual educat onal needs of<br />

id<strong>en</strong>tified stud<strong>en</strong>ts as determined by the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) committee. In addition to the various instructional<br />

sett ngs, related serv ces compon<strong>en</strong>ts are ava lable to <strong>en</strong>hance nstruct on and support stud<strong>en</strong>t ach evem<strong>en</strong>t. Each stud<strong>en</strong>t’s Individual<br />

Education Plan (IEP) s determ ned by a legally b nd ng ARD comm ttee process.<br />

Special Education Plan for High <strong>School</strong> Graduation<br />

A stud<strong>en</strong>t rece v ng spec al educat on serv ces may graduate and be awarded a h gh school d ploma f the follow ng steps are met:<br />

1. the stud<strong>en</strong>t has sat sfactor ly completed the state’s or d str ct’s (wh chever s greater) m n mum curr culum and cred t<br />

requirem<strong>en</strong>ts for graduation applicable to stud<strong>en</strong>ts in g<strong>en</strong>eral education, including satisfactory performance on the exit<br />

level assessm<strong>en</strong>t nstrum<strong>en</strong>t; or<br />

2. the stud<strong>en</strong>t has sat sfactor ly completed the state’s or D str ct’s (wh chever s greater) m n mum curr culum and cred t<br />

requirem<strong>en</strong>ts applicable to stud<strong>en</strong>ts in g<strong>en</strong>eral education for graduation under the Minimum High <strong>School</strong> Program,<br />

nclud ng part c pat on n state assessm<strong>en</strong>ts. The stud<strong>en</strong>t’s adm ss on, rev ew, and d sm ssal (ARD) comm ttee shall<br />

determine whether satisfactory performance on a required state assessm<strong>en</strong>t shall aalso be required for graduation.<br />

TEC §39.027(a)(2)(B).<br />

A stud<strong>en</strong>t rece v ng spec al educat on serv ces may also graduate and rece ve a regular h gh school d ploma wh<strong>en</strong> the stud<strong>en</strong>t’s ARD<br />

comm ttee has determ ned that the stud<strong>en</strong>t has successfully completed:<br />

1. the stud<strong>en</strong>t’s Ind v dual zed Educat on Program (IEP);<br />

2. One of the follow ng cond t ons, cons st<strong>en</strong>t w th the stud<strong>en</strong>t’s IEP:<br />

a. Full-time employm<strong>en</strong>t, based on the stud<strong>en</strong>t’s abilities and local employm<strong>en</strong>t opportunities, in addition to suffici<strong>en</strong>t<br />

self-help sk lls to <strong>en</strong>able the stud<strong>en</strong>t to ma nta n the employm<strong>en</strong>t w thout d rect and ongo ng educat onal support<br />

of the D str ct;<br />

b. Demonstrated mastery of specific employability skills and self-help skills that do not require direct ongoing<br />

educat onal support of the D str ct; or<br />

c. Access to serv ces wh ch are not w th n the legal respons b l ty of publ c educat on, or employm<strong>en</strong>t or educat onal<br />

opt ons for wh ch the stud<strong>en</strong>t has be<strong>en</strong> prepared by the academ c program;<br />

3. The state’s or District’s (whichever is greater) minimum credit requirem<strong>en</strong>ts for stud<strong>en</strong>ts without disabilities; and<br />

4. The state’s or District’s minimum curriculum requirem<strong>en</strong>ts to the ext<strong>en</strong>t possible with modifications/substitutions only<br />

wh<strong>en</strong> t s determ ned necessary by the ARD comm ttee for the stud<strong>en</strong>t to rece ve an appropr ate educat on.<br />

The ARD committee shall determine needed educational services upon the request of the stud<strong>en</strong>t or par<strong>en</strong>t to resume services, as<br />

long as the stud<strong>en</strong>t meets the age eligibility requirem<strong>en</strong>ts.<br />

A stud<strong>en</strong>t rece v ng spec al educat on serv ces may also graduate andrece ve a regular h gh school d ploma upn the ARD comm ttee’s<br />

determination that the stud<strong>en</strong>t no longer meets age eligibility requirem<strong>en</strong>ts and has completed the requirem<strong>en</strong>ts specified in the<br />

IEP.<br />

English as a Second Language (ESL) Program<br />

English Language Learners (ELLs) are evaluated to determine whether they will b<strong>en</strong>efit from the English as a Second Language (ESL)<br />

program, which offers the opportunity to learn, str<strong>en</strong>gth<strong>en</strong>, or refine English in an effective manner. Placem<strong>en</strong>t n ESL classes s by<br />

Language Profici<strong>en</strong>cy Assessm<strong>en</strong>t Committee (LPAC) recomm<strong>en</strong>dation. Writt<strong>en</strong> par<strong>en</strong>tal approval is required. Specially trained<br />

teachers prov de nstruct on n oral language developm<strong>en</strong>t, vocabulary bu ld ng, and read ng and wr t ng sk lls at the stud<strong>en</strong>t’s level<br />

of profici<strong>en</strong>cy.<br />

Advanced Academics Program<br />

CCISD offers courses and opt ons for stud<strong>en</strong>ts who excel or show pot<strong>en</strong>t al to excel academ cally and ntellectually. These courses<br />

offer <strong>en</strong>richm<strong>en</strong>t and acceleration of course cont<strong>en</strong>t with instructional provisions to chall<strong>en</strong>ge the academically able and/or highly<br />

mot vated stud<strong>en</strong>t. Compreh<strong>en</strong>s ve and r gorous courses emphas ze h gher-level th nk ng, problem solv ng, and research sk lls. These<br />

courses allow stud<strong>en</strong>ts to achieve the following objectives:<br />

• Explore and study more int<strong>en</strong>sively the cont<strong>en</strong>t of various subjects.<br />
