Collegiate High <strong>School</strong><br />

The D str ct n t ated a collaborat ve partnersh p w th Del Mar College to op<strong>en</strong> Collegiate High <strong>School</strong>, an early college h gh school,<br />

in Fall 2006. Developm<strong>en</strong>tal funds were provided by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation through the Texas High <strong>School</strong> Project<br />

Fund of Commun t es Foundat on of Texas and local nst tut onal resources from both Del Mar College (DMC) and the D str ct. The<br />

school s curr<strong>en</strong>tly located on the DMC east campus and serves approx mately 400 stud<strong>en</strong>ts.<br />

Collegiate High <strong>School</strong> s des gned to prov de all stud<strong>en</strong>ts att<strong>en</strong>d ng w th the opportun ty to earn a h gh school d ploma and a college<br />

assoc ate’s degree, or up to two years of transferable college cred t hours, w th n four years, at no cost to stud<strong>en</strong>ts or the r fam l es.<br />

Stud<strong>en</strong>ts eligible to att<strong>en</strong>d the school must meet specific criteria set forth by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The campus was<br />

specifically created to improve outcomes for stud<strong>en</strong>ts underrepres<strong>en</strong>ted in higher education, including at-risk, low-income stud<strong>en</strong>ts;<br />

English language learners; and first-g<strong>en</strong>eration college stud<strong>en</strong>ts. Stud<strong>en</strong>ts must display motivation for learning with the pot<strong>en</strong>tial for<br />

college-level work wh le n h gh school and must demonstrate the personal character st cs to funct on n a demand ng, nontrad t onal<br />

Discipline Alternative Education Program<br />

The Stud<strong>en</strong>t Learn ng and Gu dance C<strong>en</strong>ter (SLGC) s a D sc pl ne Alternat ve Educat on Program (DAEP) for stud<strong>en</strong>ts who have<br />

be<strong>en</strong> removed from the regular school sett ng for nfract ons of the Stud<strong>en</strong>t Code of Conduct as defined by Board Policy. The campus<br />

prov des a seamless approach to cont nual nstruct on for all h gh school stud<strong>en</strong>ts <strong>en</strong>rolled. Stud<strong>en</strong>ts cont nue the r core curr culum<br />

course work through d rect nstruct on, and rece ve cont nual nstruct on for elect ve courses through a correspond<strong>en</strong>ce program w th<br />

the home campus.<br />

Mary Grett <strong>School</strong><br />

Mary Grett <strong>School</strong> prov des a post-high school program that prepares adapt ve educat on stud<strong>en</strong>ts ages 19-21 years old for<br />

adult l v ng. A cont nuum of vocat onal programs and commun ty-based nstruct on s prov ded n a var ety of sett ngs that promote<br />

ndep<strong>en</strong>d<strong>en</strong>ce and respons b l ty.<br />

Regional Day <strong>School</strong> Program for the Deaf (RDSPD)<br />

The Reg onal Day <strong>School</strong> Program for the Deaf (RDSPD) s located on the W. B. Ray H gh <strong>School</strong> campus. The campus serves<br />

hear ng- mpa red stud<strong>en</strong>ts at all grade levels. Tra ned staff members prov de a compreh<strong>en</strong>s ve academ c curr culum and ext<strong>en</strong>s ve<br />

act v t es to meet stud<strong>en</strong>ts’ needs.<br />

PERSONAL GRADUATION PLAN<br />

The Personal Graduation Plan (S<strong>en</strong>ate Bill 1108) requires a school principal to designate a guidance counselor, teacher, or other appropr<br />

ate nd v dual to develop and mplem<strong>en</strong>t a personal graduat on plan for each stud<strong>en</strong>t n m ddle school or h gh school who does<br />

not perform sat sfactor ly on an assessm<strong>en</strong>t nstrum<strong>en</strong>t adm n stered under Subchapter B, Chapter 39; or who s not l kely to rece ve<br />

a high school diploma before the fifth school year following the stud<strong>en</strong>t’s <strong>en</strong>rollm<strong>en</strong>t in Grade 9. Additionally, each district is required<br />

to prov de accelerated nstruct on to a stud<strong>en</strong>t <strong>en</strong>rolled n the d str ct who has tak<strong>en</strong> the secondary ex t-level assessm<strong>en</strong>t nstrum<strong>en</strong>t<br />

and has not performed sat sfactor ly on each sect on, or who s at r sk of dropp ng out of school.<br />

ATHLETICS AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES<br />

University Interscholastic League (UIL) Extracurricular Activities Participation<br />

State requirem<strong>en</strong>ts specify that for University Interscholastic League (UIL) participation, and all other extracurricular activities, no<br />

stud<strong>en</strong>t may be dropped or transferred from a course w th a fa l ng average later than the <strong>en</strong>d of the fourth week of a report ng per od;<br />

otherwise, the grade will be considered a failing grade for extracurricular activity eligibility purposes. That requirem<strong>en</strong>t applies to<br />

administrator-, teacher-, stud<strong>en</strong>t-, and/or par<strong>en</strong>t-initiated schedule changes.<br />

University Interscholastic League (UIL) Eligibility<br />

UIL participants are eligible to participate in contests during the first six weeks of the school year provided the following standards<br />

have be<strong>en</strong> met:<br />

• Stud<strong>en</strong>ts <strong>en</strong>ter ng Grade 9 and below must have be<strong>en</strong> promoted from a lower grade pr or to the beg nn ng of the curr<strong>en</strong>t<br />

school year.<br />

• Stud<strong>en</strong>ts beginning their second year of high school must have earned five (5) credits that count toward State high school<br />

graduation requirem<strong>en</strong>ts.<br />

• Stud<strong>en</strong>ts beg nn ng the r th rd year of h gh school e ther must have earned a total of t<strong>en</strong> (10) cred ts that count toward State<br />

high school graduation credits or a total of five (5) credits, which count toward State high school graduation requirem<strong>en</strong>ts, that<br />

must have be<strong>en</strong> earned during the twelve (12) months preceding the first day of the curr<strong>en</strong>t school year.<br />

• Stud<strong>en</strong>ts beg nn ng the r fourth year of h gh school e ther must have earned a total of 15 cred ts that count toward State h gh<br />

school graduation credits or a total of five credits which count toward State high school graduation requirem<strong>en</strong>ts must have<br />

be<strong>en</strong> earned during the twelve (12) months preceding the first day of the curr<strong>en</strong>t school year. Exceptions are as follows:<br />

a. Wh<strong>en</strong> a migrant stud<strong>en</strong>t <strong>en</strong>rolls for the first time during a school year, all criteria cited above applies. All other stud<strong>en</strong>ts<br />

who <strong>en</strong>roll too late to earn a pass ng grade for a grad ng per od are nel g ble.<br />

b. High school stud<strong>en</strong>ts transferring from out-of-state may be eligible the first six weeks of school if they meet the criteria<br />

cited above or school officials are able to determine that they would have be<strong>en</strong> eligible if they had remained in the out-<br />
