Mendocino Art Center Mission Statement:
The mission of the Mendocino Art Center is to be a vital cultural
resource, providing a broad range of the highest quality educational
and exhibition opportunities in the arts to all people.
Founded by Bill Zacha in 1959 as a nonprofit organization
to support, foster, advance and promote artistic awareness
and participation.

Letter from the Executive Director
Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always
remember, you have within you the strength, the patience,
and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.

There’s an old proverb that says, “change is the only constant,”
and that certainly can be said of the Mendocino Art
Center. I also believe that change coupled with vision, focus
and commitment has the capacity to accomplish what often
appears to be unaccomplishable. And that can also be said of
the Mendocino Art Center.
2009 has seen many changes in leadership – both on the
board and also with the Executive Director. With each of
these changes, there has been a heightened sense of vitality
and a strengthening of the organization’s infrastructure.
It was with great joy and anticipation that I accepted the
position of executive director for the Mendocino Art Center.
Joy for the extraordinary opportunity to help lead a vital organization
in such a spectacular place. Anticipation for what
our center has the potential to become . . . an artistic beacon,
calling artists, art lovers and art instructors from all over
the world to our beautiful place on the northern California
coast.
I took this position not only because I believe in the
potential of the Mendocino Art Center but also because I
knew I would not be alone. I knew the staff, board and community
was ready and willing to step up and assist in raising
the Mendocino Art Center from where it is to what it can
be. And I believe in the wisdom of Margaret Mead’s famous
quote – “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed
citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only
thing that ever does.” So let us begin today.
