The Grads of 2013 certainly hope you have been remembering to save your beverage containers for the GRAD<br />
2013 BOTTLE DRIVE this SATURDAY NOV. 3!! Drop off all your recyclable beverage containers in the staff<br />
parking lot from 10 am to 2 pm and you will be helping the grads fundraise to make their graduation celebrations<br />
safe and spectacular! Please remember to ask your friends and neighbours to drop off their bottles as well – or<br />
you could even offer to do it for them if they bring them to your house! Every effort to gather a LOT of bottles is<br />
much appreciated. Thank you!<br />
2. <strong>Byng</strong> Athletics Update<br />
RUGBY<br />
Gr. 8 boys rugby advanced to next week's VSSAA semi-final match with a quarter final victory over Pt. Grey.<br />
Gr. 9 boys rugby defeated Magee, Thursday, in the semi-finals, 50-7 to advance to the VSSAA championship<br />
match on Tues Nov. 6 at 3:00p.m. at Camosun Field.<br />
SOCCER – SENIOR BOYS<br />
Sr. Boys Soccer team won yesterday in a shootout against Eric Hamber so now they are off to the BC<br />
Championships in Burnaby Nov.22.<br />
CROSS COUNTRY<br />
The <strong>Lord</strong> <strong>Byng</strong> Cross country team heads to Prince George on Fri. for BC Champs on Saturday. The strong<br />
Greyghosts boys team is hoping to strike some fear into St. Georges !<br />

3. Special PAC Meeting, Tuesday, <strong>November</strong> 13 at 7:00 pm<br />
Due to the time constraints at the last PAC meeting on October 30th, a Special PAC meeting to vote on PAC<br />
expenditures will be held on Tuesday, <strong>November</strong> 13 at 7:00 pm in the <strong>Byng</strong> Library. Please join us to provide<br />
your input on how our funds should be spent in the <strong>2012</strong>/2013 school year. A list of the current requests from the<br />
teachers that will be voted on at the Special PAC meeting, will be posted on the <strong>Byng</strong> PAC website next week at<br />
(www.lordbyng.net/pac).
4. Career Centre News<br />
Emily Carr University of Art and Design will be at <strong>Byng</strong> at 1 pm on Monday, Nov. 5th in room 223<br />
Dalhousie University will be in the library on Wednesday, Nov. 7th at lunchtime<br />
Post <strong>Secondary</strong> Evening at <strong>Byng</strong> is on Tuesday, Nov. 13th from 7 - 8:45 pm (BC institutions) On Monday, Nov.<br />
5th from 7 - 9 pm at St. George's, David Prutow will be presenting on US Admissions - What you need to know.<br />
Admission trends, what colleges are looking for, navigating the process and athletic recruiting will be highlighted.<br />
Parents and students are invited.<br />
5. English Language Learners Testing – <strong>November</strong> 6, <strong>2012</strong><br />
ELL Students have ELL Testing Tuesday, <strong>November</strong> 6 in the cafeteria. ELL 10, 11 and 12 Students are tested in<br />
periods 1.1 and 1.2; ELL 8 and 9 Students are tested in period 1.3 and 1.4<br />
6. The <strong>Lord</strong> <strong>Byng</strong> Symphony Orchestra – Friday, <strong>November</strong> 23, <strong>2012</strong><br />
The <strong>Lord</strong> <strong>Byng</strong> Symphony Orchestra opens its 10 th season on <strong>November</strong> 23 rd with a concert featuring two string<br />
soloists, Jesse Lu in a bass concerto by Bottesini and Emma Bazinet in a Mozart violin concerto. Conductor<br />
Odette Kurth has also included a Beethoven overture and a symphony by Haydn. General admission is $10.<br />
Reserved seating subscriptions for all three Friday evening concerts are still only $25. NEW: $5 student<br />
admission. The LBSO is probably the best classical music value in town. Note: If you’re undecided, you can<br />
subscribe at the first concert for $15 with your general admission ticket.<br />

7. Senior Students' Art Work on Display at Vancouver Convention Centre<br />
Congratulations to 15 of our Visual Art and Photo students whose art work was chosen to be displayed at the<br />
Vancouver Convention Centre, <strong>November</strong> 7th to 11th as part of the Circle Craft Christmas Market's Student Art<br />
Display. Congratulations to Ashley Tsang, Bobby Zheng, Carmen Lew, Danielle Mainman, Emily Ackermann,<br />
Emily Lim, Kate Metras, Kelly Zhong, Marita Bradley, Nancy Luo, Ryleigh Staples, Sabrina Wang, Sehee Ahn,<br />
Sharon Liu, and Stacy Hsu. Art work will be on view in the entrance lobby of the convention centre (no admission<br />

8. Take our Kids to Work Day – Wednesday, <strong>November</strong> 7, <strong>2012</strong><br />
Dear Parents of grade 9’s!<br />
Take Our Kids To Work Day is fast approaching! It will be on Wednesday, <strong>November</strong> 7 th . Ms. Tanner will be going<br />
into the English 9 classes to give information to the students about the day. For detailed information please visit<br />
the Website: http://www.thelearningpartnership.ca/page.aspx?pid=250 “Take Our Kids To Work <strong>2012</strong>” and click<br />
on Resources for the “Parent Guide’” and the “Consent Form”. Please download the form, fill it out, sign it and<br />
sent it back with your son or daughter and have them bring it to the grade 9 counsellor, Kristina Tanner.<br />
If Ms. Tanner doesn’t have the forms back signed, the students will have to come to school! This is a very popular<br />
event every year and the students not only really enjoy it but they also learn a lot and have a better understanding<br />
of what their parents /relatives do in their work place.<br />

9. Christmas Trees<br />
The PE Dept. will be running the annual Christmas Tree Lot Dec.7-20. We will be looking for parent help and will<br />
send out more info. soon.
10. Grad Fundraiser – Take your recycling to the Return it Center on Broadway<br />
The Return it Center on Broadway this year will once again support the <strong>Lord</strong> <strong>Byng</strong> Grads. If you take your<br />
returnables to them and say that you would like the money to go to <strong>Lord</strong> <strong>Byng</strong> Grad, they will keep the money in<br />
an account and give it to the grads in the spring.<br />
Please also be aware that there will be a number of bottle drives this year, and that you could please hang on to<br />
all your empties the grads will gladly take them off your hands right at the school.<br />

11. Remembrance Day Assemblies – Thursday Nov 8 th<br />
<strong>Lord</strong> <strong>Byng</strong> will be holding Remembrance Day assemblies for our students on Thursday Nov 8 th to commemorate<br />
members of the armed forces (soldiers). Students will be given poppies in first period and we ask that they bring<br />
a donation, if possible, to be given to the Poppy Fund Committee.<br />
12. Parent Teacher Conference<br />
Our Parent -Teacher conference will be taking place on Thursday <strong>November</strong> 29 th . More information will be sent<br />
out to our parent community in the next few weeks with details on how to sign up online for appointments. On line<br />
appointments will begin <strong>November</strong> 22 nd . As it is not possible to accommodate all parent requests in that one<br />
evening, we would like to remind parents that may contact their child’s teachers or counsellor with concerns at<br />
any time in the year with a phone call or an email. We look forward to seeing many of you at Parent Teacher<br />
Conferences!<br />
13. Grad Photos<br />
Grad Photos - for those who missed the scheduled the studio days you can contact Artona (@(604) 872-<br />
7272) directly and schedule a shooting day. For the picture to appear in the annual you must do this before<br />
<strong>November</strong> 30th.<br />
14. Keeping Valuables at Home and Lockers Locked!<br />
Unfortunately we have had some recent incidents of theft from PE lockers. We are reminding all students to<br />
please leave valuables at home and do not bring large amounts of cash to school. It is essential that all students<br />
LOCK their lockers at all times and do not share their combinations. This is address in the student handbook on<br />
pages 9-10. If anyone has any information about the stolen items, please report to one of the administrators.<br />
