Championship win with a privateer<br />
<strong>Audi</strong> withdrew from the <strong>DTM</strong> for a while in the 1992 season<br />
and it wasn’t until 2000 that the Abt Sportsline team took<br />
the initiative to participate in the <strong>DTM</strong> as an <strong>Audi</strong> privateer<br />
team. Laurent Aiello promptly won the title in 2002 in the<br />
Abt-<strong>Audi</strong> TT-R.<br />
<strong>Audi</strong> returns to steal the show<br />
The <strong>Audi</strong> factory-backed team returned to the <strong>DTM</strong> fold<br />
in 2004 with the <strong>Audi</strong> <strong>A4</strong> <strong>DTM</strong> and went on to rack up an<br />
impressive score against Mercedes-Benz over the next six<br />
years, clinching the title no less than four times, with two<br />
wins each for Mattias Ekström and Timo Scheider. Overall,<br />
<strong>Audi</strong> has achieved seven championship wins and 52 race<br />
victories since 1990 and is now ranked second in the list of<br />
winners in the history of the event.<br />
