and Employees,
We started 2011 with momentum following
improved sales in 2010. This positive
development reflects an improving economy,
our reliable products and our sales
strategy. Only companies with innovative
products and satisfied customers emerge
stronger from crises. Our products and
our sales strategy that we started years
ago are now having an impact. We will
again be introducing new products at the
coming exhibitions, products which are
making flow metering even more efficient,
more accurate and result in cost savings. I
am inviting you to see for yourself in this
issue of Badger Facts and at the numerous
2011 trade shows.
Besides industrial applications, a lot of
our products are also used for water. The
water shortage is an issue of global concern.
Water is not a completely renewable
resource. The global community needs to
change the way it thinks and how it uses
water resources. Many conventional systems
for water treatment and wastewater
treatment in developing and emerging
countries or arid regions are inappropriate.
Modern water management requires precise
knowledge of consumption and distribution.
For this, Badger Meter has suitable
flow meters offering state-of-the-art communication
capabilities to a central data
processing system.
The greatest saving potential in water consumption
is in the prevention or reduction
of loss. In agricultural irrigation – which
accounts for about 70 % of the water
consumption in the world – evaporation
losses are reduced from 50 % to 10 %
when using efficient irrigation systems. In
the drinking water supply however, 30 %
to 50 % loss in the network are more the
norm rather than the exception.
Because we believe that the handling of
the global water supply deserves more
attention, we decided to start a cooperation
project with the pupils from the
„Realschule Neuffen“ (junior high school).

School project with international impact
More than 1.2 billion people currently
suffer from water shortages. Nineteen
out of 100 children do not have access
to clean drinking water. More and more
people on this planet are concerned
with the consequences of the global
water shortage. Technology is needed
to distribute water – a precious and vital
resource - in a more targeted way.
For that reason, Badger Meter Europa
GmbH decided to conduct a special project
with the „Realschule Neuffen“ (junior
high school) to increase the aware ness
of children towards water and help to
access clean drinking water in Africa.

The pupils are creatively dealing with
the topic „Water Shortage.” The best
thirty artworks will be displayed in a
permanent exhibition at Badger Meter
Europa GmbH in Neuffen and the best
ten pieces will travel worldwide. The
first location is Water Berlin in May
where the project will also be presented
to the media. The pupils´works will gain
even more attention when Badger Meter
presents them at Water Week in Singapore
– one of the most important conferences
in the world.
Pupils from the „Realschule Neuffen“ use their talents
to address the world´s water issue – We paint to help.
The works will not only be displayed, but
also sold. The revenue will be used for
two projects in Africa: one in Ethiopia
and another one in South-Eastern Kenia,
projects sponsored by the Water
Institution WasserStiftung and the German
Agro Action Welthungerhilfe, both
dealing with well-sinking and irrigation.
Acquisition of Remag AG
Badger Meter Inc. acquired Remag AG located in Bern, Switzerland on January 26, 2011.
Badger Meter and Remag have been working successfully together for more than ten
years.
In 1997, Badger Meter bought the rights
to Remag’s electromagnetic product line
Magnetoflow ® .
Remag AG is a manufacturer of small
turbine meters in the Vision ® series
1000 / 2000 which are used in almost all
areas of the industry and which ideally
round out Badger Meter’s product portfolio.
With 55 mm length and 31 mm height,
the meters are very small and can be installed
just about anywhere.
Ideally suited for small flow rates –
measuring range of 0,5 to 35 l / min – the
low-cost meters are made out of Grilamid
and are therefore appropriate for the
flow measurement of many fluids such
as demineralized water, alkaline solutions,
oils / salad oil, fuel, beverage, water
solutions, etc.
This technological and commercial synergy
of Remag and Badger Meter make the
companies an ideal combination.

New oval gear meter series IOG ®
The new oval gear meter generation
IOG ® has been designed for a broad
spectrum of applications. The new series
is best suited for measuring the flow of
chemicals and can be used in the petrochemical
industry. They are also used for
waterbased applications for the food and
beverage industry.
The new meters have a compact design
making them ideal for the process industry,
construction plants and almost all batching
and flow metering applications.
NEW
The meters are available in sizes of ½“,
¾“ and 1“, in stainless steel or aluminum.
The rotors are available in stainless steel
or in plastic (LCP) and cover a temperature
range of -30 °C to + 120 °C, and suited
for applications with a viscosity of up to
1000 cp.
Besides efficient construction, the meters
have outstanding product features like
optional adjustment of lay lengths, ATEX
approval and minimum pressure drop
even at high pressure rates.
Electronic registers with Ex protection
(IP67) can be mounted on the top of the
meters. The new series can be installed
horizontally or vertically, and offer a wide
measuring range as well as high accuracy.
New highly-precise turbine meter series
Four new series of standard turbine meters
with a single rotor offer a broad
spectrum of applications in the field of
high pressure or low flow. A flanged
series and a highly-precise gas turbine
series complete the line.
The standard turbine with single rotor
has an accuracy of +/- 0,25%, a repeatability
of 0,02% and a response time of 2
milliseconds. The meters have a superior
linearity over a wide range.
Cox is a Division of Badger Meter, Inc.
In the industry, the standard turbine
meters are used in applications like coolant
for cutting and forming operations,
process control flow measurement,
component test stands for the military,
batch flow metering, fuel consumption
measurement in machines, motors and
actuator aggregates, as well as for a
great number of R&D applications. CE
approval is available.
The highly accurate turbine meters with
the patented dual rotor technology have
a 60:1 extended range on the universal
viscosity curve. The meters are best
suited for applications where a highlyaccurate
flow measurement is required,
where minimum room is given for the
flow meter and/or where no space is
available for flow straighteners.

Ideally suited for leak detection in water
networks, water consumption measurements
and irrigation plants, the meter
has been designed for applications
without a power supply where exact
consumption or flow rates are required.
Of course, the B-MAG I M5000 can
also be used with an available power
supply. The meter can be powered with
main voltage and in case of a main failure,
it is powered by an internal battery.
Important data are consequently saved.
The B-MAG I M5000 is a batterypowered
electromagnetic flow meter
with a very high accuracy even at very
low flows.

– Battery operated water meter
The excellent repeatability as well as
the above-average battery life makes
this innovative water meter indispensable
for the water market, even at the
most remote measuring sites.
The standard meter is equipped with
an internal datalogger which can readout
via an IrDA or RS232 interface with
ModBus ® RTU protocol. The collected
data can also be retrieved via radio frequency
or GSM. The data can thus be
centrally compiled and evaluated.

The new MAG meter
generation
With the verification device, the new
electromagnetic ModMAG TM M2000 and
B-MAG TM I M5000 can be checked on
site in regular time intervals at a low
cost and without interruption of the
proc ess. All important parameters of the
flow meter are measured, protocoled
and evaluated. Company internal quality
directives as well as governmental
requirements, can be observed quickly
and without the need for calibration on
external test stands.
Furthermore, the measuring data of the
new MAG meter generation can be retrieved
via GPRS and monitored from
your desk.
Wireless data recording via GPRS –
The new dimension
For consumption monitoring and leakage
reduction in water supply systems,
Badger Meter offers the ability to record
wireless the measuring data from
flow meters. Included is precise flow
measurement in large channels and rivers
for the monitoring of navigability and issuance
of flooding forecasts; monitoring
and notification of overflow basins for
rainwater, sewage plants, storm water
overflow plants as well as for the control
of irrigation plants or level monitoring;
Possible connection to MAG meters, RCDL ® , Turbo ®
meters, impeller meters and ultrasonic flow meters
and notifications for automatic filling
and connection to the supplying system.
Those data are transmitted to and filed
on a central server via a GPRS module.
The information can be retrieved, visualized,
evaluated and downloaded via a
password-protected access. The password
is set by the customer.
For a low investment, the user is saving
tremendous costs compared to the clas-
sic data recorder. Users can manage
wireless measuring sites and have worldwide
remote access via the internet. The
solution is ideal for measuring sites in
difficult areas and optimizes global applications.
It offers high flexibility thanks to
the extremely small space requirement.
The installation of the GPRS module is
done quickly and putting into operation is
easy. Service and maintenance are also
made easier.

AMA preview – Advanced Metering Analytics
Advanced Metering Analytics (AMA) is
the next generation of water and gas
metering technology that incorporates
both mobile and fixed network reading
capabilities, along with a host of
automated utility management tools to
further increase utility productivity and
revenue.
AMA consists of a powerful analyticsbased
software platform (ReadCenter ®
Analytics) and two-way fixed network
meter reading technology. Besides data
recording, the data are analyzed. In case
of a deviation to normal operation, the
analytics-based software shows you

which causes may be the reason, such as
a leak in the system, and offers different
action proposals.
Program management tools increase
the productivity and functionality to
ensure a higher efficiency. Two systems
are available for a bidirectional data
recording: Orion ® SE (for fixed networks)
and Orion ® ME (for mobile applications).
The new system – expected for release
in summer 2011 – will be presented
during the Water Berlin show. Come and
