Intelligent Compact Drives
with Positioning Control
IclA – Intelligent Compact Drives with Positioning Control
IclA is a comprehensive product programme for
decentralised drive concepts. IclA integrates
everything you need to move masses: motor,
power electronics and positioning controller.
Positioning commands are transferred to the
compact drive via the field bus so you only need
a power supply cable and a field bus cable to
connect IclA drives. The position commands are
processed independently by the intelligent
compact drives.
IclA – New Dimensions in Planning,
Design and Installation
Integration of the electronic system assures that
you can benefit from all the advantages of
decentralisation and automation:
• No control cabinet required
• Control via field bus
• Minimal wiring required
• Easy installation and commissioning
Since no space is required in the control cabinet,
the project design for the compact drives is
limited to configuring the software and the power
supply.
IclA – For a Whole Range of Different
Applications
Positioning masses, format adjustments – these
and many other applications are easy to
automate with IclA. IclA IFS drives are equipped
with stepping motors and are suitable for highprecision
positioning tasks with very low resonance.
The IclA IFE, D042 and D065 drives
are equipped with EC motors and designed for
automated format adjustments. EC motors excel
with a high detent torque. Therefore, they usually
do not require a holding brake.
IclA IFS and IclA IFE
The various IclA IFS and IclA IFE versions cover
a wide range of different applications.
All Important Field Bus Interfaces
IclA provides all field bus interfaces required by
manufacturers of machines and appliances:
Profibus DP, CANopen and RS485. The software
tool IclAeasy is used for commissioning. The
drives can be used for decentralised
applications. New system software can be
uploaded via the field bus.
Four Free Inputs and Outputs
Up to four process signals, such as limit
switches, can be directly connected to the drive.
This way, long cables are not required. The
inputs and outputs can be used as required.
Two Connection Technologies
IclA IFS and IclA IFE let you choose between
two connection technologies: printed circuit
board plug connectors and industrial plug
connectors. Industrial connectors are used for
special machines and small quantities. PCB
connectors are suitable for cabling series
machines and cable looms.
IclA with industrial connector
For reasons of cost-effectiveness, PCB
connectors are also the best solution in modular
machines with identical machine modules.
IclA IFS
Compact Drive with Stepping Motor for High-Precision Positioning
The IclA IFS compact drives are especially
suitable as short-distance positioners and speed
drives as well as for high-resolution positioning
and handling of low masses.
In addition to the power electronics and the
positioning controller, IclA IFS drives are
equipped with proven Berger Lahr 3-phase
stepping motors. They excel with high-precision
positioning and low resonance.
Perfect Adaptation to Your Application
Depending on your torque and speed range
requirements, IclA IFS drives are available with
the IFS 6x and IFS 9x sizes with three motor
lengths each.
Compact Drive with EC Motor for Highly Flexible, Automatic Format Adjustment
The IclA IFE compact drive can be flexibly
configured and is particularly suitable for format
adjustment applications. It is equipped with an
electrically commutated Berger Lahr 3-phase
synchronous motor (EC motor). Positioning
controller with field bus interface and power
other IclA drives.
Equipment Depending on Application
and Requirements
IclA IFE can be optionally equipped with a spur
gear or a planetary gearbox. Spur gears have a
superior price/performance ratio. Planetary
gearboxes are used in applications which require
high accuracy.
Safety and Performance
The motor excels with a high detent torque. An
additional holding brake is usually not required.
The IclA IFE electronics offer the facility of
absolute position feedback. Initial referencing is
performed via hardware limit switches.
IclA IFE also features thermal separation of the
motor and the electronics housing. This assures
full motor power up to ambient temperatures of
50°C.
IclA D042 and IclA D065
Compact Drives with EC Motor for Automatic Format Adjustment in Series Machines
The IclA D042 and IclA D065 compact drives are
particularly suitable for format adjustment
applications. They were specially developed for
use in series machines. Various spur gears and
planetary gearboxes are available for adaptation
of the drive to your specific application.
Both compact drives are equipped with
maintenance-free Berger Lahr EC motors, which
excel with a high detent torque. Therefore, an
additional holding brake is not required. The IclA
D065 and IclA D042 electronics offer the facility
of absolute position feedback. The IclA D042
drive was designed for use under limited space
conditions.
Application Examples
IclA in the Printing Industry
An increasing number of settings are automated
in the set-up of printing machines, for example
the impression cylinder, the deflection and the
folding unit. The intelligent compact drives
replace complex mechanical solutions. Due to
the detent torque of IclA with EC motor, no
brakes are required.
IclA in the PCB Industry
In the production of PCBs, the combination of a
camera and compact drives for fully automatic
precision positioning ensures reproducible
printing quality. The decentralised drive concept
enables the combination of eight drives with
different power ratings and other field bus
participants. Modern connection technology
allows for efficient wiring at minimal connection
cost.
IclA in the Wood Processing Industry
The batch sizes produced by CNC machines are
becoming increasingly smaller. Therefore, manual
format adjustment is no longer cost-effective. With
IclA, the set-up times are reduced by a factor of
15. The solution utilises 24 or 48 compact drives
which are controlled via the field bus. In order to
account for different load situations, this
application uses two different gearbox reductions.
