Geographic Distribution of Reported Disappearances,
1981 - 1998
The majority of forced disappearances documented by Families
of the Disappeared were concentrated in four districts.
In particular, of the forced disappearances reported
to Families of the Disappeared, 33.4% (209/626) occurred
in Gampaha district, 24.6% (156/626) in Kandy district,
10.1% (64/626) in Kalutara district and 6.7% (42/626) in
Puttalum, as is shown in Table 1.
