Dear fellow Bousteadians,
Reaching the halfway mark of the financial year 2011 has
been both encouraging and eventful for the Group.
I am particularly pleased to note that your Group has
registered a strong profit after tax of RM134 million for the
first quarter of this financial year, marking a 29% jump on
a year-on-year basis. These results are a clear affirmation
of your Group’s strength and commitment in delivering on
the bottomline and enhancing shareholder value.
The month of March marked a significant milestone
for the Group with the completion of the Pharmaniaga
Berhad acquisition. We are looking forward to positive and
sustained contributions from our Pharmaceutical Division
with the completion of this acquisition. I am confident all
subsidiaries and departments across the Group will support
this new listed subsidiary to achieve the aspirations of the
Group.
The Boustead Group, being a leading public limited
company under the stable of companies of Lembaga
Tabung Angkatan Tentera was also involved in the GLC
Open Day which was a major exercise undertaken by all
GLCs in Malaysia to communicate to Malaysians and the
public at large on the value proposition that the GLCs bring
to the Malaysian economy. It was indeed a very positive
event and we are glad to be part of this significant effort
to help Malaysians understand the role that GLCs play in
the economy.
As we look towards the remaining quarters of the year,
I trust all Bousteadians will work extra hard in order to
ensure that your Group remains successful and achieves
its goals this coming year.
As Ramadan is fast approaching, I take this opportunity to
wish all our Muslim friends a happy fasting. May this year’s
Ramadan be a better one for us all.

Staf Boustead yang dihargai,
Perjalanan Kumpulan menuju pertengahan tahun
kewangan 2011 adalah menggalakkan dan penuh dengan
pelbagai peristiwa.
Dengan sukacitanya, saya ingin memaklumkan bahawa
Kumpulan telah mencatatkan keuntungan selepas cukai
yang kukuh sebanyak RM134 juta bagi suku pertama tahun
kewangan ini, iaitu peningkatan sebanyak 29% berasaskan
tahun atas tahun. Keputusan ini jelas mengesahkan
kekuatan dan komitmen Kumpulan untuk memperoleh
keuntungan dan meningkatkan nilai pemegang saham.
Kumpulan mencatatkan satu lagi peristiwa penting
pada bulan Mac dengan selesainya pengambilalihan
Pharmaniaga Berhad. Kami mengharapkan sumbangan
yang positif dan berterusan dari Bahagian Farmaseutikal
dengan selesainya pengambilalihan ini. Saya yakin semua
anak syarikat dan jabatan di seluruh Kumpulan akan
menyokong anak syarikat yang baru disenaraikan ini untuk
mencapai aspirasi Kumpulan.
Sebagai sebuah syarikat awam terkemuka dan kukuh di
bawah Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera, Kumpulan
Boustead juga terlibat dalam Hari Terbuka GLC, iaitu satu
usaha besar yang melibatkan semua Syarikat Berkaitan
Kerajaan (GLC) di Malaysia untuk memberi pendedahan
yang lebih dekat lagi kepada rakyat Malaysia dan
masyarakat secara amnya tentang peranan yang dimainkan
oleh GLC dalam menyumbang kepada pembangunan
ekonomi negara.
Dalam kita mengharungi baki suku tahun selebihnya,
saya percaya semua staf Boustead akan bekerja dengan
lebih kuat lagi agar Kumpulan kita sentiasa berjaya dan
mencapai matlamatnya pada tahun berikutnya.
Memandangkan bulan Ramadan akan tiba tidak lama
lagi, saya mengambil kesempatan ini untuk mengucapkan
selamat berpuasa kepada semua rakan umat Islam kita.

Annual General Meeting
Boustead Holdings Berhad's 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM)
was held on 7 April 2011 at the Menara Boustead’s 4th Floor
Conference Room.
All resolutions put forward were passed by the shareholders during the
AGM. These resolutions include amongst others, receiving and adopting
the audited financial statements of the Boustead Group for the year
ended 31 December 2010 and re-appointing Directors of the Company.
The meeting concluded with a press conference.
Another milestone achievement by MHS Aviation
It was a proud moment and a feather in the
cap for MHS Aviation Berhad on 28 April
2011, when the company was presented
with the Gold Award by ExxonMobil
for `Hurt-Free Operations’ exceeding
100,000 man-hours, cumulative for
the last three years for its Kerteh
operations. This safety recognition
by ExxonMobil is another milestone
achievement for MHS Aviation.
Leading the helicopter operations for
oil and gas services in Malaysia, and
recognised by international helicopter
operators, manufacturers and
Original Equipment Manufacturers
(OEMs) for our safety achievements,
this award is an addition to the numerous local and
international awards achieved throughout its 27 years of
operations, both in the domestic and international arena.
Incidentally, during the period of review by ExxonMobil
for this award, MHS Aviation achieved the ‘CHAMPION’
award from Petronas Carigali for its Peninsular Malaysia
Operations (PMO) Contractors’ HSE Award in 2009.
MHS Aviation’s Safety Management System (SMS) is
premised on a solid foundation with the following eight
building blocks:
1. Senior management’s commitment in safety
management.
2. Effective safety reporting.
3. Continuous monitoring through safety data collection
system on hazards during normal operations.
4. Investigation of safety occurrences with the objective
of identifying systemic safety deficiencies rather than
assigning blame.
5. Sharing safety lessons learned and best practices
through an active exchange of safety information.
6. Integration of safety training for operations personnel.
7. Effective implementation of Standard Operating
Procedures (SOPs).
8. Continuous improvement of the overall safety levels.
With these SMS building blocks actively pursued on a daily
basis and with the desire as well as determination to
strive for continuous improvement, MHS Aviation shall
endeavour to maintain, if not, better its safety statistics to
continue as a leading provider of helicopter and fixed wing
charter services in Malaysia.

Sales Launch – Phase 2L
Mutiara Rini Johor recently launched
12 double storey semi-detached units
in its Phase 2L. The sales launch was
held on 23 April 2011 at Mutiara Rini
Sales Office. A total of 55 registrants
were invited exclusively for the sales
launch.
These semi-detached houses offer a lot
size of 45’ x 115’/144’. Built-up areas
vary from the minimum size of 3,063
sq. ft. to the largest of 3,690 sq. ft.
Selling price starts from RM497,000.00.
Each house has five bedrooms and four
bathrooms with the master bedroom

Session for Boustead Curve Sdn. Bhd. and Damansara
Entertainment Centre Sdn. Bhd. (DEC) was held
from 22 - 24 April 2011 at Hyatt Regency Kuantan. It was
attended by nine Heads of Department and 15 selected
executives from both companies.
The session began with a talk on Transformational
Leadership by Y.Bhg. Laksamana Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Mohd
Anwar Hj. Mohd Nor (R), Chairman of Lembaga Tabung
Angkatan Tentera. This was followed by a discussion led
by Y.Bhg. Dato’ Ghazali Mohd Ali, Director of Boustead
Curve.
The brainstorming session resumed the next day
where participants discussed the SWOT (Strengths,
Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis
of the two malls (the Curve and e@Curve) and the
departmental Key Performance Index (KPI). The session

MR68, with a price tag of RM545,000.00
were sold within two hours on the first
day of the sales launch.

Teo claims that he has had an interest and a passion for accounting
from a very early age. While he admits that this would seem
strange to most people, he cannot recall a time when he did not
harbour the ambition of being a successful accountant. Chasing
this dream, he took the first step by signing up for the subject
Prinsip Perakaunan for his SPM and has not looked back since.
Fresh from graduating with a First Class honours degree in
Accounting and Finance from the University of Manchester, Teo
joined the company in August 2007 as the inaugural member
of Boustead’s ICAEW Accountant Trainee Programme which
Boustead had just embarked on. Since then, he has been
attached to Group Finance, The University of Nottingham
Malaysia Campus and Boustead Travel Services. Through these
experiences, he has had the opportunity to better understand
the scope of the businesses that Boustead is involved in.
In addition to his responsibilities at work, he regularly attended
classes and lectures in preparation for examinations throughout
the year. This became increasingly difficult as he took on bigger
roles and responsibilities at the workplace and he admits that
at times, holding a full time job while pursuing his studies were
likened to hurdles that seemed insurmountable. He successfully
completed his examinations and graduated from the programme
in December 2010.
When asked how he felt upon receiving the results for his final
examination, he confessed that his immediate reaction was that
of relief. “My final exam was taken when I had just assumed the
role as the accounting head of Boustead Travel Services. My role
and responsibilities were new to me so I had to try very hard to
stay focused as I prepared for my exams. I’ve never worked as
hard as I did then but with a little bit of luck and determination,
I made it!”

Teo Tian Rong
Today, he looks forward to applying the knowledge gained
from his time with the programme to enhance and improve
the quality of his work. He is extremely grateful to Mr. Daniel
Ebinesan, the Group’s Finance Director and visionary of the
programme for allowing him to develop so quickly and for all
the guidance he has offered him over the years. Looking at
the future, he hopes to repay Mr. Daniel’s faith in him and to
continue providing value to the Group for many years to come.
Accountant Trainee Programme
The objective of the Boustead Holdings Berhad Accountant
Trainee Programme is to recruit and train fresh graduates as
future accountants for the Group. The programme serves
as a form of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) in training
young professionals for the growth of the nation. It is specially
tailored for those looking to become Chartered Accountants
with a wide range of accounting bodies including the ICAEW
(Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales),
MICPA (Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants)
and CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants).
Spearheaded by Mr. Daniel, it is aimed towards graduates with
degrees in accountancy and is unique in that trainees will be
sponsored by the Company.
Trainees can look forward to a training period of approximately
three to four years, during which they will be rotated around
the Group’s wide range of operations and subsidiaries. The
job rotation is designed to provide trainees with exposure to a
broader spectrum of the accounting and business aspects of the
Group. Over the course of this training, trainees are mentored
to develop both personally and professionally in a wide range of
areas. At the same time, trainees are required to attend classes
and study on evenings and weekends, culminating in the sitting
of examinations which are held throughout the year.
Ultimately, this marriage of work experience and academic
knowledge ensures that graduates of the programme are wellrounded
professionals. Graduates will thus be able to deal with the
rigours and responsibilities expected of a Chartered Accountant.
There are currently two other trainees who are pursuing the
ICAEW and MICPA under this programme.

recently participated in GLC Open Day 2011 held
from 24 - 26 June 2011 at the KL Convention
Centre. Aptly themed ‘Nation-building, Touching
Lives,’ the Open Day aimed at creating awareness and
increasing the public’s understanding on the unique roles
played by government-linked investment companies
(GLICs) and government-linked companies (GLCs).
The Prime Minister Y.A.B. Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun
Abdul Razak who officiated the opening of the GLC Open
Day on 24 June 2011 stopped by our booth and viewed
the products and services on display by our operating
companies. He was accompanied by Y.Bhg. Laksamana
Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Mohd Anwar Hj. Mohd Nor (R), Chairman
of Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera and Y.Bhg. Tan Sri
Dato’ Lodin Wok Kamaruddin, Deputy Chairman/Group
Managing Director of Boustead Holdings Berhad. We
received many visitors who were interested in learning
more about the Group’s businesses, while exploring
business and job opportunities.

The Open Day, organised by the Putrajaya Committee
on GLC High Performance involved five GLICs and 18
GLCs. Spanning over five exhibition halls, the Open Day
also featured contests, promotions and educational
forums. It concluded with an impressive turnout of
more than 30,000 visitors over the three-day event.

in Bandung, Indonesia
from 6 - 9 May 2011 for the
long awaited department
retreat. The retreat was organised
to create a close-knit kinship between new
and existing employees from both headoffice
and Kota Kinabalu office.
Bandung is well-documented as a shopping
haven for shopaholics. Everything is cheap
and since our Malaysian Ringgit (RM) is at an
all-time high, the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR)
can turn you an instant millionaire.
A list of assorted activities was lined up for the
group which included a tour of the historical
city, which is well-known for its historical
sights and colonial buildings and visits to the
mountainous outskirt of Bandung. Besides
enjoying the scheduled activities together,
we were also confronted with situations where our
social and survival skills were indirectly put to test
while adapting into a strange land.
Once out of the Hussein Sastranegara Airport in
Bandung, we had our first taste of the road pedlars who
offered a variety of souvenirs such as wooden pencils
with Bandung inscriptions, home-made keychains,
fridge magnets and metal praying beads (aka tasbih).
We quickly learnt that if we're not interested in buying

the item, we must simply ignore them and avoid any eye
contact, otherwise, we could be bargaining with them
until the cows come home. Don’t promise a street pedlar
that you will buy things from him, as he will follow you
everywhere you go until you do actually buy something
from him.
Comfortable shoes were a necessity for this trip, especially
for the visit to one of the biggest volcano crater in Indonesia,
Tangkuban Perahu and mostly for the walks from one
factory outlet to another. These walks stretched on until the
wee hours and enabled us to enjoy the cool
night weather of Bandung.
Being serenaded by an up-and-coming star
Bandung is filled with social and serviceoriented
people, given the many hotels
and restaurants. Music scenes (eg: buskers)
are aplenty. It seems that everybody in
Bandung can sing (even if it is an old
Javanese song). However, petty crimes are
unavoidable. Walking in groups and high
alertness evaded bad happenings to our
team members.
All in all, we left Bandung with rejuvenated
feelings and fond memories, not forgetting
heavier bags and lighter wallets.

Bhd. recently were in Bangkok for
our annual teambuilding activities.
The objective of this teambuilding
was to strengthen the bond amongst
all participants. It was an eventful
3-day 2-night programme that was
fun, exciting and educational.
Day 1: Upon arrival at
Suvarnabhumi International Airport,
we were welcomed by our tour
guide Mr. Virush @ Rush. After a
hearty and sinful Thai-food lunch
(of course!), our first activity was
a visit to the Arts of Kingdom -
Anantasamakhom Throne Hall
where we feasted our eyes on the
beautiful handcrafted products of
Thailand.

We took a river cruise along the mighty
Chao Phraya River where we enjoyed
the scenic views of Bangkok’s city
skyline and got up-close with scenes
along the river bank, and ‘lives’ in the
river (where we fed the huge and everhungry
catfish). As it was a long day
with non-stop activities, we decided to
have our dinner first before checkingin
to our hotel, Bangkok Palace Hotel.
Dinner was at Notaprat, a restaurant
well-known for its Thai cultural shows.

Kamal, our delightful colleague, was
the happiest person that night as he
was invited to dance with the pretty
and angelic dancers on stage.
Day 2: A trip to Bangkok would
not be complete without visiting
and touring the Safari World, where
animals are left to roam freely.
The animal shows were equally
entertaining with the Dolphin Show,
Seal Show and Thai Orang Utan
Boxing Show (which is the only Orang
Utan show in Asia). Towards the end
of the afternoon, we headed back to
our hotel to rest, and for our free and
easy activities.
Day 3: Started a bit late as we
were mostly tired after the long and
full 2-day activities. We decided to
rest at the hotel before we checkedout
and had our last meal in Bangkok
together at Mak Yah Moslem
Restaurant. Soon after, we headed
towards the airport for our trip back
home to Kuala Lumpur.

succeeded in reinforcing camaraderie
between team members.

Training activities for second quarter of 2011
In the second quarter of the year
2011, the Group Human Capital
Management Department organised
various training programmes ranging
from the Induction programme to
generic soft skills and Human Resource
and Industrial Relations programmes.
Amongst the programmes conducted
for executive staff were ‘Emotional
Intelligence for Work Performance,’
‘Managing Work Life Balance’ and
‘Business Continuity Management,’
whereby a programme on ‘Supervisory
Development’ was successfully
organised for the non-executive staff.
Announcement
At the same time, the Human Resource
and Industrial Relations Training
Programme series kicked-off with
the first of its series for the year on
‘Competency Profiling,’ and this was
attended predominantly by the Group’s
HR practitioners.
Apart from the soft skills programmes,
the Group Human Capital Management
Department also brought in the first
Video Programme for the year, entitled
‘The Moment of Truth.’ The programme
was targeted at the executive staff
and will be extended to non-executive
staff in another session to be held in
August.
Based on the positive responses and
feedbacks from the participants, the
Group Human Capital Management
Department will continue to conduct
and organise more training and
development programmes throughout
the year.

at The Royale Bintang Resort & Spa
Seremban (19 – 22 May 2011)
On 19 May 2011, the entire sales force team
throughout Malaysia and management
team of Boustead Sissons Paints Sdn. Bhd.
attended a 4-day 3-night Sales Conference and
Corporate Teamwork Programme at The Royale
Bintang Resort & Spa Seremban.
Our training session started at about 5.00 p.m.
on the first day until dinner before continuing
with our first green management game called Among the first obstacles in the Royale Race
Star Navigation. Armed with compasses, maps,
torchlights and a time limit of 1.5 hours, all team
members were seen scouring around the hotel premises looking for check points and
clues. Our session that night ended late but we were all exhilarated and excited on the
game’s outcome and looked forward to the following day.
The second day of the programme was dedicated to the Sales Conference. Here, our
management team highlighted the sales achievement, under achievement, future projections
and sales planning for the future. The branches communicated their respective branch’s
progress, their future plans and the sales initiatives carried out at respective branches. The
Sales Conference wrapped up with a pledge from all to put in the extra effort to improve sales,
as well as to increase market share to achieve targets set.
Our third day was dedicated to green management games and action-based classroom
activities with our Principal Coach Dr. Kishu. We started with Princess
Diana Landmine activity, where we used sign language
and symbols to navigate our way out of the landmine. The
morning ended at the training room and team members were
asked to reflect on what happened and why.
"Careful now....we don't want you to get
blown-up on the mine field!"

Lunch was a unique experience whereby each partner had to
choose the dishes that he/she thought his/her partner liked
without asking the other party. Regardless of what the other
party put on the plate, his/her partner had to happily tuck into
their lunch. After the ‘team lunch’, it was time for the Royale
Race. Taking place at the adjacent recreational forest, all teams
were given different paths with different obstacles to overcome
but with the same goal of ending the race with a winning
attitude. The race ended at 5.30 p.m. with a feel-good mood that
as a team we had accomplished our goal for the day.
Our last day of the programme started with a refreshing
isometric exercise. After a healthy breakfast, we headed back to
the classroom for more reflections and action-based classroom
activities. In the session, we all shared our expectations from
the company and vice versa. By noon, our General Manager, En.
Megat Joha wrapped up our 4-day 3-night programme and team
members dispersed to return to their respective states.

On 20 April 2011, Boustead Curve Sdn. Bhd., Damansara Entertainment
Centre Sdn. Bhd. and Boustead DCP Sdn. Bhd. had their Annual
Dinner at The Royale Bintang The Curve. More than 200 staff
attended the event themed ‘Back to the 70s.’
The programme began at 8 p.m. with a speech by Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Lodin
Wok Kamaruddin, Deputy Chairman/Group Managing Director of Boustead
Holdings Berhad. After dinner was served, guest performer cum emcee,
Y.Bhg. Dato’ Leonard Tan, entertained staff with a few songs.
Awards such as Commendation Awards and Merit Awards were given out later
in the evening. Other activities included prize giving for Games Challenge 2011,
lucky draws, a karaoke session and selection of Best Dressed Couples.

Mr. Veenaigmoorthy, 45, got an early
start on the Infiniti Fever Frenzy II
contest by pumping BHPetrol Infiniti

contest was launched on 1 April
2011. And he kept pumping as
often as possible, submitting
as many entry forms during
the month.

to participate. Not only do I
get the best fuel in the market
but now I can drive home with

he said after being presented
his prize. Mr. Veenaigmoorthy declared
himself to be a big fan of BHPetrol
fuel and has been using it for many
years.
In addition to the Proton Inspira
won by Mr. Veenaigmoorthy, he
also received an additional 50,000
ePoints for being a BHPetrol ecard
holder. The ePoints can be used to
redeem numerous items in BHPetrol’s
loyalty programme that was open
to all its customers. Besides Mr.
Veenaigmoorthy, there were 30
customers who won RM1,000.00
in cash prizes.

entitled to win only one prize.

The Star-NiE programme
To aid the teaching of English, Science
and Mathematics in the classrooms,
Boustead Holdings Berhad recently
sponsored 25,000 copies of The Star
newspapers for distribution to 20 schools
in various locations around Peninsular
Malaysia under The Star Newspaper-in-
Education (NiE) corporate sponsorship
programme.
The schools benefiting from this
sponsorship include the three Boustead
adopted schools under the PINTAR

Boustead donates dialysis chairs
to National Kidney Foundation
As part of the company’s
social responsibility towards
the general public, Boustead
Holdings Berhad recently contributed
RM2,400.00 to the National Kidney
Foundation of Malaysia (NKF) for the
purchase of three dialysis chairs that
will be used by dialysis patients at the
NKF Dialysis Centre in Petaling Jaya.

Costing RM20,000.00, this sponsorship will
enable the schools to receive a total of 35

This year, industrial elements and other
paraphernalia were included in the
transformation of the Curve's Centre
Court to embody the theme 'Revolution in
Progress' Fashion Week from 5 - 8 May.
Fashion Week kicked off with the Gala Night on
the evening of 5 May 2011, hosted by bubbly
VJ Natalie Kniese, along with a few celebrity
models gracing the runway. A total of 19
brands were featured during the weekend.
Some of these dialysis patients spend
three to four hours, three times a
week at the centre receiving dialysis
treatment and these new chairs will
help make them more comfortable
during treatment. On top of that,
these additional chairs will shorten
the queue for patients who urgently
require dialysis.
In conjunction with this event, the Curve once
again gave one shopper the opportunity of a
lifetime to drive home a brand new Hyundai
Sonata 2.0L worth a whopping RM143,888.00
in 'Drive the Hyundai Home' contest. As an
additional incentive for shoppers during
Fashion Week, the Curve also featured the
sneak previews of Dreamgirls: The Broadway
Musical Sensation.

Kejohanan Futsal KSB ’Soccerstar’ 2011
Pada 14 Mei 2011, Kelab Sukan Boustead (KSB) telah
menganjurkan Kejohanan Futsal KSB ’Soccerstar’ 2011
bertempat di Samba Futsal, Segambut. Kejohanan
yang bermula pada pukul 8.00 pagi dan berakhir pada pukul
3.00 petang itu telah disertai oleh seramai 144 ahli lelaki
dan 35 ahli wanita yang mewakili 18 pasukan lelaki dan lima
pasukan wanita.
