YOM HASHOAH/HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL SERVICE
The community is invited to the 2010 Yom HaShoah/Holocaust Memorial Service on Sunday, April 11, 1:30 p.m. at the Jewish
Community Campus, commemorating the 65th anniversary of the end of the World War II and the liberation of the camps. This annual
observance honors the memory of those who were murdered during the Holocaust and the lives of those who survived. Cindy Foss,
daughter of survivors Lilly Segelstein and the late Boris Segelstein, is the Chair of the 2009 service.
The program will include the first public screening of Witnesses to the Holocaust: Liberation produced by Midwest Center for Holocaust
Education. It combines excerpts from MCHE's videotaped interviews with local Holocaust survivors as well as personal and
archival photos and maps to describe the end of the war, the liberation of the camps, life in the displaced persons camps, and how the
survivors got to and fared in the US and Kansas City.
A very moving candle lighting ceremony will include Holocaust survivors, Children of Survivors, Grandchildren of Survivors, Jewish
War Veterans, March of the Living participants, and a representative of the Jewish Community. Six candles will be lit in memory of
the six million Jews who perished.
Coordinated by the Jewish Community Center, Jewish Community Relations Bureau/American Jewish Committee and Midwest
Center for Holocaust Education. Local Jewish organizations are co-sponsors. The entire community is invited to attend at no charge.
