Drainage and Bridges
Effective drainage of water from roadways is essential in order to extend the useful life of
the road. This is accomplished by placing culverts and bridges under the roadways to
keep the water away from the pavement and the road base. For the purposes of the
inventory and this plan, only bridges were evaluated. Officially, a bridge is defined as a
structure erected over a depression or obstruction having an opening measured along the
center of the roadway of more than twenty feet. The Tribe has three qualifying BIA
bridges in the inventory. It is the intention to add numerous State and County structures
to the inventory as shown on the following figure and table. This will allow the Tribe to
enter into cost share agreements with other governmental entities for repairs and
improvements to these structures.
