Conservationists tour Fair Meadows:<br />

The Rock County Conservationists<br />

will tour the Fair Meadows State<br />

Natural Area from 9 a.m. to noon<br />

Saturday (Aug. 2). Anyone interested<br />

in attending should meet at the Milton<br />

Burger King parking lot at 8:45 a.m.<br />

The Fair Meadows area is 300 acres<br />

of land and is the site of extensive<br />

ecological restoration projects, including<br />

prairie, wetland and deciduous<br />

Career transition open house:<br />

Starting at 10 a.m. Friday, Blackhawk<br />

11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants will<br />

learn about the BTC experience,<br />

state occupational outlooks, technical<br />

programs offered at the college and<br />

Snappers help flood victims: The<br />

<strong>Beloit</strong> Snappers, class A minor<br />

league affiliate of the Minnesota<br />

Twins, reached out this month to help<br />

flood victims. During their game<br />

against the Clinton LumberKings July<br />

3, the Snappers donated 50 cents<br />

from every ticket sold, and cash<br />

donations received from fans, to flood<br />

relief funds. A total of $1,334 was<br />

raised, with half going to Minor<br />

League Baseball Charities and half to<br />

the Stateline United Way. Minor<br />

League Baseball kicked off the relief<br />

effort in Iowa with an initial $50,000<br />

donation. The teams affected by<br />

flooding in Iowa included the<br />

Burlington Bees, Cedar Rapids<br />

Kernels, Quad Cities River Bandits<br />

and Iowa Cubbies. The Stateline<br />

United Way has established a flood<br />

recovery fund for assistance to those<br />

affected by flooding in the Stateline<br />
