INTRODUCTORY.<br />
The publishers, in presenting this issue of the TORONTO DIRECTORY, take<br />
pleasure in calling the attention of their patrons to the improvement that has taken<br />
place from year to year in the several feu.tures of the book.<br />
The Directory has grown in importance as the City has progressed, and as showing<br />
the increa.se of popula.tion and consequent business prosperity in the last decade, we give<br />
the number of names as shown in each issue of the Directory during that period :-<br />

This call be accounted for by the fact that a careful and reliable canvass of the Oity has<br />
been made, an_d th;tt XtO pains or expense have been spared, to give our subscribers as<br />
accurate a work as can be £61l.1'1a of the kind. The information has been obtained by<br />
experienced. men who are famthBl' with the business, which consequently must ensure<br />
greater cottrpleteness and correctues£l.<br />
Among the several impro1OCJI'lents which this work will be found to contain, may be<br />
mentioned tha'h not only th-e l'Qsidence, but also the place of employment of each indi<br />
vid,:ual is given. The first name in full is also invariably given of each person, and<br />
infonnatLOll generally more fully furnished than has been done in the past. The<br />
miscellaneous pa.rt of the book will be found arranged alpha.betically, according to<br />
subjects, and each item placed under its appropriate heading.<br />
The classified business directory will be found more than usually complete, and<br />
shows the various professions,_ manufactures and trades at a glance.
