STOKES COUNTY PRESCHOOLS
The following preschool programs are located within the Stokes
County School System:
• Exceptional Children’s Program: This program serves
children between the ages of 3 and 5 years that have been
identified with delayed patterns of development in one or more
of the following areas: physical, cognitive, communication,
social/emotional, or adaptive development. Eligibility is based
upon guidelines set forth by the NC Department of Instruction,
Procedures Manual for Serving Children with Disabilities.
• More At Four Program: A state-funded program that provides
educational experiences for young children. Eligibility is based
upon *age and income guidelines set forth by the More At
Four Office.
• Title I: A federal-funded program that provides educational
experiences for young children. Eligibility for this program is
based upon *age requirements and academic needs of young
children.
Each classroom is a blended program serving children based
upon the stated eligibility requirements. Pre-K Screenings, which
help determine eligibility, are held each spring across Stokes
County. Public announcements can be found in the local
newspaper, on public radio, and other advertised areas.
*Age requirement: A child must be 4 years of age on or before August 31 of the
current school year.
