tajikistan is a land locked country of 7 million people in<br />
Central Asia. It is one of the poorest countries in the region,<br />
57% of the population survive on less than $2 per day.<br />
tajikstan is on the un list of the world’s least developed<br />
countries. <strong>Habitat</strong> tajikistan was established in 1999. to date<br />
more than 530 <strong>Habitat</strong> homes have been built.<br />

At left, 8-year old Farida Mirzoeva and her family have been on a<br />
government list <strong>for</strong> a house <strong>for</strong> a dozen years, dating back to the days<br />
of the Soviet union. today, the family has a place to call their own in a<br />
three-room <strong>Habitat</strong> house in a <strong>Habitat</strong> development in Vahdat, tajikistan.<br />
Farida’s dad works as a camera operator and her mom as a lawyer with<br />
the organization Madadgor, which provides legal assistance to the poor.<br />
today, Farida’s mom uses her skills to help other families (like the ones<br />
she sees in her work) fill out <strong>Habitat</strong> application <strong>for</strong>ms. Below is Farida’s<br />
house, part of a 12-house development in the city.<br />
