GETTING READY FOR YOUR PUMP START<br />

2. The night before your pump start:<br />

If you are using NPH ® /Lantus ® /Levemir ® insulin, take ______ units of insulin at ____(time)<br />

the night before your pump start. Check with your healthcare professional for specific<br />

instructions.<br />

3. The morning of your pump start:<br />

Take Humalog ® /NovoRapid ® /Apidra ® insulin for your food and any high BG.<br />

Do NOT take any long acting or intermediate acting insulin the morning of your<br />

pump start. Check with your healthcare professional for specific instructions.<br />

4. Eat your usual breakfast on the morning of your pump start. Remember to cover the carbs<br />

with short or rapid-acting insulin that your healthcare professional has prescribed.<br />

5. Bring these items with you the day of your pump start:<br />

�1 unopened vial of Humalog ® , NovoRapid ® or Apidra ® insulin<br />

�BG metre, lancets and strips<br />

�BG logs<br />

�Glucose tablets or another treatment for hypoglycaemia<br />

7. Other items you need:<br />

�Ketone test strips<br />

�Carbohydrate counting book<br />

�Glucagon Emergency Kit<br />
