APPENDIX 4: PUMP FLOW SHEETS
Washing your hands and changing your infusion site and dressing are important for preventing
skin problems and infections. It is best to rotate your site and change your set every 2 to 3
days, or as recommended by your healthcare professional. This will help prevent infections and
elevations in your BG readings.
Inspect your site twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. Look for signs of
infection such as:
• Drainage (clear, cloudy, white, yellow or bloody)
• Unpleasant odour
• Redness or warm area
• Fever or chills
• Pain or discomfort at the site
• Unexplained hyperglycaemia
• Nausea or vomiting
Make sure to report any of these symptoms to your healthcare professional as soon
as possible.
Tips to preventing skin problems and infections:
Wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap and water before and after handling pump
supplies, site dressings and/or medications.
Inspect sterile packages to make sure contents have not been opened or damaged. If the
integrity of the package has been damaged, use another one. Contact Animas UK & Ireland on
0800 055 6606 (UK) or 1800 812 715 (Ireland), we will want to send the damaged package
back to the manufacturer.
Consult your healthcare professional if you are having problems with skin irritation or infection.
