DRF: On April 1st 2011, DRF Luftrettung<br />
inaugurated a newly founded HEMS base of<br />
Weiden in der Oberpfalz (Upper Palatinate) in<br />
Bavaria. After being put out to European tender,<br />
DRF Luftrettung was selected as operator<br />
for the new rescue helicopter with the call<br />
sign “Christoph 80”. The start of the operation<br />
was accompanied by a ceremony with about<br />
70 representatives from politics and rescue<br />
services.<br />
The helicopter is an Eurocopter EC135P2+<br />
on duty from 7 am to sunset (+30 minutes) to<br />
provide patients in the region with fast medical<br />
care. The integrated dispatching centre of<br />
Nordoberpfalz alerts the helicopter for HEMS<br />
missions mainly in the areas of Upper Palatinate and intensive care transports between clinics.<br />
At the beginning of April, the Tenth annual medical conference of the DRF Luftrettung took<br />
place in Freiburg, southern Germany: About 100 emergency physicians and paramedics of<br />
the DRF Luftrettung met up to exchange their ideas on subjects of emergency medicine.<br />
