Lot 1 Dark Ch Cock PMPC-08-2772 (Van Wanroy X Van Loon) 

Bred down off the original Rob Wilson imported Van Wanroys, these being 

exceptional middle to long distance birds that have proven to be an exceptional 

cross for the Van Loons. This cock is related to three “Newcastle Hunter Classic One 

Loft Race” winners 

Lot 2 Dark Ch Hen AUST-06-954 (Van Wanroy X Van Loon) 

Related to Lot 1 above. Len had a lot of time for this line of birds. Their G/mother 

being an exceptional racer/breeder for Steve Beverley in Qld and apart from a 

clocking mishap should have been the QPF “Bird of the Year – 1997”. She has go on 

to breed numerous prizewinners. 

Lot 3 Grizzle Cock PMPPC-07-1660 (Silver Shadow Van Loon) 

The “Silver Shadows” need no introduction to fanciers, as they have been the most 

successful imports of recent years. This particular bird is closely bred to Keith 

Sagger’s champion imported cock GB-98 X-67966. Youngsters off this cock being very 

consistent racers for Len. 

Lot 4 Blue Ch Hen PMPC-06-1524 (McLean) 

The McLean pigeons need no introduction to pigeon fanciers, especially in the MNCF 

having proven themselves to be very reliable especially on long hard races. Without 

doubt one of Len’s favourite hens. 

Lot 5 Blue Bar Cock AUST-06-949 (Van Loon) 

An exceptionally well-bred cock who’s sire contains the best of Steve Beverley’s Ray 

Hunt Van Loons being closely related to Steve’s champion producer “Titleist” 

possibly the best producing cock of the old original Van Loons. His dam being closely 

related to the VHA Champion fanciers Grenville Evan’s Van Loons. This is a truly well 

bred bird. 

Lot 6 Blue Bar Hen PMPC-08-2712 (Van Loon) 

An extremely well bred hen being off Len’s champion race hen “River Queen” PMPC- 

06-1555, winner of 1 st Club Yamba by 7 mpm, 2 nd Club Tweed Heads (narrowly 

beaten for 1 st ) and winner of 1 st Club All Age Derby, 8 th Fed from Gympie. 1555 is a 

full sister to 2 nd Port Macquarie Breeders Plate for Ian Workman (That went on to 

breed Ian his 1 st Taree Invitation winner by 16 min winning $6,000). A full brother 

winning 2 nd Club from Delungra for the Bleesdale Family. Another full sister winning 

3 rd Club Forbes for J Jeffery in the CCF. This hen would be an asset in anyone’s stock 

loft. 

Lot 7 Blue Bar Cock PMPC-08-2702 (Van Loon) 

This cock is a full brother to Lot 6 above.

Lot 8 Light Ch Hen TAREE-08-610 (Not Known) 

This is a lovely hen, but unfortunately I could not find any information about her 

breeding or race performance among Len’s records. 

Lot 9 Blue Ch Pied Cock AUST-7982 (Janssen) 

This pigeon was bred for Len by Clarrie Henshaw in Sydney, it would be one of the 

best bred Janssens available being bred off the same sire that produced Keith 

Wrightson’s double Combine Winner in the FRP. The breeding of this cock is all 

“Rocky” the champion Short Distance winner of all Holland who’s sire was imported 

by Des Sippets. These “Rocky” Janssen’s have continued to produce top class race 

birds throughout Australia. 

Lot 10 Pen Blue Bar Hen PMPC-05-469 (Appleby) 

The Appleby pigeons need very little introduction to local fanciers being bred and 

well tested over the years on the hard Northern Route. I found it difficult to find out 

much about this hen in Len’s records other to say that her young had raced 

consistently when used. 

Lot 11 Blue Bar Cock PMPC-09-4857 (Van Loon) 

Clocked bird winning 1 st Club from Hawks Nest 2010. His Sire is Lot 21 and his Dam is 

Lot 41 

Lot 12 Blue Bar Hen PMPC-09-4875 (Van Loon) 

A most consistent race bird off the Southern Route having 3 starts to Beacon Hill. 


Bred for stock off Lot 49 “River Queen” PMPC-06-1555 (see Lot 49 for details) 2717 

is the nest mate brother to 2712 winner of 1 st Club Caloundra also winning $5 Nom. 

The Sire (902) being borrowed from Paul Gibbs and is a son of his 1 st Club, 2 nd CCF All 

Age National from Ivanhoe 600 km. 

Lot 14 Blue Bar Hen AUST-08-3252 (Van Loon) 

Bred by Paul Gibbs off his No1 pair of Van Loons. Nothing but the best of the 

“Scrumpy” Van Loon lines in this hen. 

Lot 15 Blue Bar Cock AUST-08-3264 (Van Loon) 

Bred by Paul Gibbs. This cock is a ½ brother to Lot 49 “River Queen” and has been 

responsible for some very consistent race birds for Len. 

Lot 16 Blue Bar Hen PMPPC-07-1675 (Van Loon) 

“Lenny’s Girl” Bred by Paul Gibbs. This hen was a very consistent race bird winning 

5 th Club Delungra, 2 nd Club Young Bird Derby Garah and 1 st Club, 1 st Fed All Age 

National Mungindi and is a ½ sister to Lot 13 on the sire’s side. *There is a $100.00 

reserve on this bird.

Lot 17 Pen Blue Bar Cock MNC-06-215 (Appleby) 

Was a very consistent race bird over 2 years. Having 4 starts to Tweed Heads on the 

north route and 3 starts on the western route to Moree. 


Bred by Paul Gibbs. Her sire being off direct imported Van loons that were imported 

by Paul Rose from Campbell Strange in the USA. Her dam being a very well bred Van 

Loon down off Steve Beverley’s VL’s. Nothing but the best of the Planet Brother VL’s 

in this hen’s breeding. 

Lot 19 Dark Ch Cock PMPC-08-2771 (Van Wanroy) 

Bred by Lenny off a Van Wanroy pair that came from Paul Gibbs. These birds are 

reported to have been one of Holland’s best Long Distant families. 

Lot 20 Blue Bar Pied Hen PMPC-04-22 (Appleby) 

This bird had 8 races over 2 yrs being an early consistent bird each occasion. When 

put to stock in 2007 produced has produced clocked birds in 08 and 09. She was not 

used in 2010/11 

Lot 21 Blue Checker Cock PMPC-08-2800 (Not Known) 

A very nice bird, but unfortunately no record could be found. 

Lot 23 Blue Ch Pied Hen PMPC-06-1518 (Not Known) 

Had 6 starts over 2 yrs racing off the Nth and Sth routes then was put to stock. 

Lot 24 Blue Ch Pied Cock PMPC-04-23 (Not Known) 

An exceptional race bird over 2 yrs of racing, having had 8 starts being clocked from 

Valla Beach, then won 1 st Club Glen Innes, then flew Warialda and then won 3 rd Club 

Mungindi. As a 2 yr old was 2 nd Club Yamba, clocked from Ballina, flew Tweed Heads 

and then won 1 st Club Caboolture. 

Lot 25 Pen Blue Bar Hen PMPC-06-1531 (Appleby) 

Known as “Ada’s Delight” This hen was a very consistent race bird over 3yrs, having 

3 starts as a yearling, Yamba, Ballina and Tweed Heads being clocked from Yamba. As 

a 2 yr old it had 5 starts Glenn Innes, Delungra X 2, Moree and Garah. As a 3-year-old 

“Ada’s Delight” had 4 starts – Yamba, Tweed Heads, then won 2 nd Club Cleveland 

and finished winning 1 st Club, 5 th Fed “All Age National” from Gympie as well as 

winning the Fed Two-Bird Championship. She was then put to stock.

Lot 26 Grizzle Cock PMPC-08-2718 (Silver Shadow Van Loon) 

Bred by Len Katen who’s g/dam on the sire’s side was the dam of B & D Solmon’s 

champion cock “King Solomon” AUST-07-925 that won 1 st Club, 10 th Fed Tweed 

Heads, 1 st Club YBD Caboolture, 2 nd Club, 2 nd Fed AAD and 1 st Club 7 th Fed 

Bundaberg. The G/dam on the dam’s side being Lot 49 “River Queen”. This cock 

represents the best of Len’s Van Loon birds. 

Lot 27 Blue Checker Hen PMPC-10-632 (Not Known) 

Had 3 starts as a yearling – Yamba, Ballina and Tweed Heads then was put to stock. 


An extremely well bred cocks, being off 902 (The sire of “King Solomon”) X 1555 

“River Queen” Lot 49 making this cock a full brother to Lot 13. (This bird being kept 

for stock). 

Lot 29 Blue Bar Hen MNC-02-250 (Not Known) 

Unfortunately no record of this bird could be found. 


This cock is a “real gem” being bred for stock by Paul Gibbs from one of the best 

pairs of recently performed birds to compete on the Mid North Coast. The sire of this 

cock is Bob & Doreen’s 2007 champion “King Solomon” winner of 1 st Club, 10 th Fed 

Tweed Heads, doubled back the following week to win 1 st Club YBD, 2 nd Club, 14 th 

Fed AAD and 1 st Club, 7 th Fed Bundaberg. The dam being PMPPC-07-1675 “Lenny’s 

Girl” winner of 1 st Club, 1 st fed MNCF National by 39 mpm (see Lot 16 for further 

details. 

Lot 31 Blue Bar Hen CTN-03-1483 (Van Loon) 

Bred by Paul Gibbs. A lovely hen that is extremely well bred with a fantastic eye. This 

hen was given to Len as Paul has a full brother and sister (same year bred) in stock. 

This hen contains the best of the old Planet Brother “Scrumpy” VL’s with the 

bloodlines of birds obtained from Steve Beverley and Grenville Evans. There have 

been many prize winners bred off this hen, her brother and sister and their progeny. 


Bred by Paul Gibbs for stock. The sire being an inbred cock off Steve Beverley’s 

champion producer “Titleist”. Many winners in over 6 federations Australia wide 

have come down off this bird. The dam of this bird is Paul’s 1 st Club, 2 nd O/A CCF Any 

Age Derby from Ivanhoe 600 km. This hen being the G/dam of “King Solomon” 

(mentioned above).

Lot 33 Light Ch Hen AUST-05-2626 (Van Loon) 

Bred by Paul Gibbs. This hen’s breeding is impeccable. Her sire and dam breeding 

many winners in Sydney. She is a full sister to the sire of the champion “King 

Solomon”. This hen should be an asset in any loft. 

Lot 34 Blue Bar Cock PMPPC-07-1668 (Van Loon) 

Bred by Paul Gibbs for stock. This cock was bred of my original N01 VL cock (now 

deceased) he was bred for me by Steve Beverley and has produced a dynasty of 

winners and producers. His bloodline dominating my loft today. His dam is none 

other than the hen above (Lot 33). This cock has bred some of Lenny’s most 

consistent race birds. 

Lot 35 Blue Bar Hen PMPC-08-2719 (Van Loon) 

This hen had 3 starts before being put to stock, flying Ballina, Tweed Heads (where 

she was clocked for 4 th Club) and Caloundra. The dam of this hen is “Lenny’s Girl” 

(see Lot 16 for details). 


Bred by Paul Gibbs. This bird was an entry in the “Newcastle Hunter Classic” 

returning on the day but out of the prize money. It was given to Lenny for stock. This 

bird is very well bred with many prize winners in his breeding, in fact he is a full 

brother to “River Queen” PMPC-06-1555 (See Lot 49) 

Lot 37 Blue Bar Hen AUST-07-12728 (Van Loon) 

Bred by Paul Gibbs. This hen being bred off 2 very well bred VL’s. The sire being bred 

off a directly imported Paul Rose VL purchased from Campbell Strange in the USA. 

Campbell Strange spending a large sum for the sire of this cock. The dam of this hen 

was one of my best Steve Beverley VL’s being inbred to his champion cock “Titleist”. 

It would be hard to obtain a better-bred Van Loon. 

Lot 38 Slate Cock MNC-09-31 (Janssen) 

This is an exceptionally well-bred Janssen, with both his sire and dam being inbred to 

the “Sheer Elegance” hen. These Janssens having produced fantastic 

racers/producers for many fanciers Australia wide. The dam of this hen came from 

Len’s good friend in Sydney Barry Malone. The sire coming from Steve Beverley. This 

line of Janssen proving to be an excellent cross for the Van loons. 

Lot 39 Blue Ch Hen PMPC-09-4810 (Van Loon) 

This hen only had two starts before being retired to stock, these being Hawks Nest 

and Red Head. Her sire being 902 borrowed from Paul Gibbs being the sire of Len’s 

1 st Club, 1 st Fed All Age National winner “Lenny’s Girl” (Lot 16) and her dam was 

1555 “River Queen” (Lot 49) This hen being bred of two of Len’s best race birds.

Lot 40 Blue Ch Cock PMPC-09-4878 (Van Loon) 

This bird had 3 starts as a yearling, Hawks Nest, Beacon Hill and Shoalhaven Heads 

where he was clocked for 2 nd Club. The dam of this hen is a daughter of 902 X 1555 

“River Queen” Lot 49 (See info above). 

Lot 41 Light Ch Hen PMPC-08-2788 (Van Loon) 

This hen only had 2 starts as a race bird before being put to stock, these being 

Yamba and Ballina. The sire of this hen was 902 and the dam was 1555 “River 

Queen” (Lot 49) 

Lot 42 Blue Bar Cock AUST-09-659 (Van Loon) 

Bred for stock by Paul Gibbs. This cock being a full brother to PMPPC-07-1675 

“Lenny’s Girl” (Lot 16) winner of 1 st Club, 1 st Fed All Age National by 39 mpm. 1675 

also winning 4 th Club Delungra and 4 th Club, 10 th Fed Young Bird Derby from Garth. A 

full sister winning 1 st Club, 16 th Section CCF from Euabalong West 419 km. 


Only raced on three occasions, Glenn Innes, Delungra and the YBD from Garth, then 

being put to stock. Her dam, as with many of Len’s later stock birds was 1555 “River 

Queen” (Lot 49). 


Bred for stock by Paul Gibbs. This cock was sired by the G/sire of B & D Solomons 

champion race bird “King Solomon” (See lot 30 for full details). This bird being 

responsible for countless winners in Brisbane and Sydney. The dam of 3256 being a 

top producer of race birds for Steve Beverley. This is a bird is bred in the purple and 

should not disappoint any new owner. 


Bred by Paul Gibbs off two very well bred VL’s. The sire being off imported Paul Rose 

VL’s from Campbell Strange for a large sum of money and the dam being one of the 

best bred Steve Beverley VL’s. There have been many winners in both Brisbane and 

Sydney related to these birds.

This bird had 5 starts before being put to stock, these being – Yamba, Ballina, 2 X 

Cleveland and Gympie. (Found it difficult to find the breeding of this bird in Len’s 

records). 

Lot 47 Blue Bar Flty Hen CCF-08-21138 (Not Known) 

Not sure of the origin of this bird. May have been gifted to Len by his friend Barry 

Malone in Sydney.

Lot 48 Blue Ch Cock PMPC-08-2770 (Van Loon/Van Wanroy) 

Had 3 starts as a yearling – Yamba, Ballina and Tweed Heads, then kept for stock. 

The dam of the cock being Steve Beverley’s champion racer/producer “Evening Star” 

a winner 3 years running before being put to stock. She is the dam to many 

exceptional racers in both Brisbane and Sydney, along with being the dam of 3 

”Newcastle Hunter Classic” winners. 


Bred by Paul Gibbs. This hen is Lenny’s champion racer/producer “River Queen” 

winner of 1 st Cub Yamba by 7 mpm, 2 nd Club Tweed Heads (narrowly beaten for 1st) 

1 st Club, 8 th Fed “All Age National” from Gympie. Since 2007 Len has used her 

extensively at stock, being the dam and G/dam of many prizewinners. A son bred for 

me by Len produced a double winner in Perth in 2011. A full brother for the 

Bleesdale Family (as a 2yr old) won 1 st Club from Delungra. A full sister raced by Ian 

Workman won 2 nd Prize Club breeders Plate going on to produce his 1 st place in the 

“Taree Invitation” in 2011 winning $6,000.00 another full sister winning 3 rd Club 

Campbelltown CCF. *There is a $100.00 reserve on this bird. 

Lot 50 Dark Ch Cock AUST-08-3290 (Van Loon X Van Wanroy) 

Bred by Paul Gibbs. This bird was bird from a G/son of Steve Beverley’s champion 

producer “Titleist”. His mother being “Evening Star” (See Lot 38 for details). This 

pairing has contributed greatly to the development of the Van Loon family of Paul 

Gibbs. There have been many winners in several Clubs and Federations related to 

these birds. 

Lot 51 Dark Ch Hen PMPC-10-633 (Van Loon/Van Wanroy) 

This bird had 4 starts as a yearling, these being Yamba, Ballina, and Tweed Heads and 

was clocked from Gympie winning 3 rd Club. 


Bred by Paul Gibbs. This hen’s sire being one of Paul’s newer Van Loon lines - “Raven 

Van Loon” being big winners in Melbourne since being imported. Her dam carries 

the lines of the “Silver Shadow” and “Planet Brother” Van Loons. 

Lot 53 Blue Bar Hen PMPC-05-10 (Not Known) 

Unfortunately I was unable to find any details about this hen in Len’s records, but I 

assume she would not have lasted this long in the stock loft if he thought nothing of 

her.

A very consistent race bird in 2011 on the north route, having flown the 

following race points – Yamba, Ballina, Tweed Heads, 2 x Cleveland and 

Gympie. 


An unraced yearling that was tossed regularly from Coffs Harbour having 

been earmarked for use a 2 yr old racer. 


Only flown 2 races, both from Redhead in 2010. The dam of this hen is 

Len’s champion racer/breeder PMPC-06-1555 Lot 49 “River Queen”. 

Lot 57 Grizzle Hen PMPC-10-686 (Silver Shadow) 

This young hen had 3 starts before being put aside for use a 2 yr old. 

These race points being Yamba, Ballina and Tweed Heads. This hen is 

also a daughter of “River Queen” Lot 49.

A very consistent race bird over 3 years having flown north, south, then 

north again. Her first year saw her race from Ballina, Tweed Heads and 

Caloundra. As a 2 yr old, Hawks Nest, Redhead and Narooma, and as a 3 

yr old Yamba, Tweed Heads and Gympie.

Bred from 2 recent Paul Gibbs acquisitions. These being a “new” line of 

Van Loon introductions. This hen having had 4 starts, Yamba, Ballina, 

Tweed Heads and Gympie from where it was equal 1 st bird to the loft.

This hen had 3 races as a yearling, being from Ballina, Tweed Heads and 

Gympie.
