<strong>Hyang</strong>-<strong>Sook</strong> <strong>Kim</strong><br />

<strong>Hyang</strong>-<strong>Sook</strong> <strong>Kim</strong> is a <strong>Ph</strong>.D. candidate at <strong>Penn</strong> <strong>State</strong> University’s<br />

College of Communications. She graduated from Kansas <strong>State</strong><br />

University in 2007 with a master’s degree in mass communication. She<br />

also earned her bachelor’s degree and another master’s degree at<br />

Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea, in 2000 and 2002 with an<br />

emphasis in film and drama studies. Her research background is in<br />

advertising, media effects, and health communication with her current<br />

work focusing on the effects of new media technology on online users’ perceptions,<br />

particularly as they inform individuals’ tendency to share information online. She has<br />

been teaching undergraduate-level classes (COMM 420 Research Methods in Advertising<br />

and Public Relations and COMM 304 Mass Communication Research) at <strong>Penn</strong> <strong>State</strong><br />

University. She has also served as a teaching assistant for advertising and public<br />

relations (PR) courses, such as introduction to advertising, media planning, and public<br />

relations campaigns, all of which are offered to undergraduates, in addition to a<br />

graduate-level seminar on mass communication research methods. Her experiences<br />

with marketing in diverse industry areas, such as film production, marketing research<br />

services, and online education, have been great resources for her teaching. She is<br />

currently working on a dissertation about the effects of interface cues in online<br />

information sharing.<br />
