Dear Parents and Carers,
Year 4 Easter Service
On Wednesday, Year 4 led this service for their parents and family members. They worked hard to share the message
of hope and new life which we celebrate at Easter. We are grateful to Rev Bawtree who supported the children in
sharing the Easter message and for offering a blessing. The school enjoyed the same service together on Tuesday.
Egg Decorating competition
This proved very popular again this year, with very creative entries from across the school. Councillor Nicholas
enjoyed judging, being most impressed by the wide range of different ideas and particularly those that followed the
Olympic theme. We are hoping to display photographs on our website shortly, so those of you who were unable to
view the eggs at school have an opportunity to view the creations and get some ideas for next year! As planned,
there were prizes for each year group and adult entries. We couldn’t resist awarding an additional prize for an
amazing family ‘Star Wars’ entry – including Princess Lay-an egg! We will be having a family category next year as a
result – so thank you and well done to the Dutton family for giving us the idea. Our thanks also to Councillor Nicholas
for her support for this popular annual event.
Newspaper Club has proved very successful. The children involved have worked very hard to learn about newspapers
and all stages of the production process. The children, from different year groups across the school were very excited
by the opportunity to sell copies of their paper in the playground yesterday and to children in school today. Thank
you to Mr Watson for working on this interesting project with the children and to those of you who have supported
the children by buying their paper. They certainly had an interesting line of questioning when they were interviewing!
Staff News
A final thank you and farewell to Mrs Carole Hill who leaves the staff team today. I am sure that she will take many
fond memories of working with your children. We wish her a restful but exciting early retirement.
Mr and Mrs Yates would appear to have set a trend. To add to the babies we are expecting this year, we must also
congratulate Miss Ola McVie, one of our Year 6 Teaching Assistants who is expecting her first child in September.
Miss Schlamkow is celebrating her success this week. She has been accepted to train as a teacher following the
Graduate Teacher Programme which she will start in September. She will undertake her training based at Canterbury
Christchurch University and Whitfield School.
Phil the Bag
We collected 490 kilograms from our recycling and raised £205.80. Thank you to everyone who helped.
Happy Easter
It has been a very varied term in many ways, not least with the weather. The children have progressed well with their
learning and have taken part in trips, visits, working with visitors and hands on learning. They have been preparing
for tests and teacher assessments which are due to take place in May. I would remind parents that we do not
authorise holidays during May for this reason.
Thank you for your support this term. I wish you all a very happy Easter break with your children.
Yours sincerely
