CTC DJs teach
primary school
students how to
mix tracks
Ibrahim Khan (8 Garland)
has been a regular in the DJ
enrichment since joining in year
7. He has made outstanding
progress and his tutor, DJ Kaos,
anticipates Ibrahim carving out
a successful career in the future.
Here Ibrahim describes his
contribution to a “taster” session
for Gifted and Talented students
from St Anthony’s Primary
School.
The primary school students
found their experience enjoyable
and they learnt a great deal
from their practical experience
on the decks. They found it to
be an excellent and rewarding
experience to try something new
and different. The students were
very excited and were looking
forward to the opportunity to
return and learn more.
I started off by teaching them
CCLD students
explore
presentation of
food to young
children
Tanya Webber outlines new
practical initiatives in the BTEC
Children’s Care Learning and
Development course. “As part
of our drive to make classroom
based units even more practical
and useful, Year 12 and 13 BTEC
Children’s Care Learning and
Development students had a
chance to research and try out
various recipes producing healthy
and appealing meals for young
children. The issues of using
healthy seasonal ingredients
were highlighted with students
acquiring invaluable skills in
terms of food preparation and
presentation. The students greatly
enjoyed the practical and now feel
well prepared for teaching children
to establish healthy eating habits
from an early age. “
Becky Healing (12 Bragg) outlines
the first steps which involved
putting a song on the first beat,
setting the bpm for the track and
teaching them how to do a quick
mix. I benefited immensely from
this experience as I was able
go back to basics and improve
on what I had learned as well as
gain a better understanding of
the basic principles involved in
teaching how to use decks. I also
the impact of the initiative, “About a week ago
we took part in a cooking practical for ‘Diet and
Nutrition’ Unit. I did this activity as I wanted to
learn new ways of cooking for a healthy menu for
children. This was really enjoyable as we got to
cook with friends and try new things out! From
this I have learnt how to contrast different colours
when presenting food and how to add different
textures to make the meal more appealing to
children.
I would recommend CCLD course to the younger
years as it is a fun and enjoyable experience that
provides you with useful skills you need in the
future.”
Medina Griffiths.
improved my communicating
skills and ability to build
relationships with other students.
Since the club has benefited
from two decks following our
successful Youth Opportunities
Fund grant, this has made a
huge difference. More students
now have the chance to use the
decks as the more experienced
students can use one set or decks
whilst the beginners can use the
other set of decks. This allows all
students to reach their potential.
The DJ sessions take place every
Thursday after school in student
reception and all students are
welcome to join us.
