This traditional course covers late pregnancy, the process of labor and birth, labor
coping skills (with many in-class practice sessions), newborn care and breastfeeding,
postpartum, and early parenting. Weekly classes help connect families with peers and
build support networks. Plan to start during the sixth month of pregnancy. The recommended

This condensed series provides information on pregnancy, labor, and birth, including
comfort measures and labor support and is a great refresher option. Postpartum topics

Prep For Childbirth: Weekend Condensed CHFM 107
This condensed format will provide an overview of late pregnancy, the birth process,
labor coping skills, newborns and breastfeeding. Plan to take by the 8th month of pregnancy.

available in the BTC Campus Store and should be read prior to the course. Course fees are

HypnoBirthing S CHFM 109
HypnoBirthing prepares women and partners for natural, physiologic birth. Using techniques
like visualization, guided imagery, and special breathing patterns, women learn
to remain in control and aware while deeply relaxed; they learn to eliminate fears and to
build trust in their inherent ability to give birth. Limited information on breastfeeding
and newborns will be included. Required handbook and CD are included in the class fee.

BASIC ACADEMIC SKILLS
What is offered in Basic Academic Skills?
• Learning Center classes in basic reading, writing, and math, GED preparation,
Accuplacer preparation, computer literacy, and ESL. Instructional
methods include individual, group, and computer-aided instruction.
• English as a Second Language classes at all levels.
• I-BEST programs that allow students to start preparing for their career
while still working on their GED, basic skills, or ESL.
Who can enroll in Basic Academic Skills?
Anyone who is 16 years of age or older and not enrolled in high school who
needs instruction in reading, writing, math, or ESL below the level of high
school competition is eligible to enroll.
What is the cost?
Tuition of $25.00 per quarter is required for ALL ABE, GED, and ESL classes.
How do I enroll in The Learning Center?
Step 1 ORIENTATION
Orientation includes program expectations, goal setting, and college awareness.
Allow 3 hours for each orientation session. Call the Learning Center
360-752-8341, to sign up for orientation.
Step 2 CASAS ASSESSMENT
This test provides information about your reading and math or listening skills
that will help the instructor meet your needs. Call 360-752-8341 to schedule.

GED PREPARATION & TESTING
GED Testing
BTC offers GED testing to those who are eligible from our community. Note: The
Assessment Center has temporarily relocated to Morse Center 212. Individuals arriving
for testing are to park in the visitor lot in front of the College Services Building, sign in
for parking and then walk over to Morse Center. Maps are available.
GED candidates must be at least 16 years of age. Those less than 19 years of age must
bring a completed Request for Approval to Test form (available at high schools) signed by
the designated employee at their former high school, usually the principal or assistant
principal. Candidates must also present government issued photo identification before
testing.
There is a $75 fee for the five tests, payable to the BTC Cashier, College Services Building.
There is a $10 fee per exam for retesting if required. You must submit a written cancellation
request prior to taking 1st test for a 100% refund. No refunds after one or more
tests have been taken.
Contact Admissions & Advising at 360-752-8345 for more information, or to sign up
for each test at least one day in advance of testing. Four or five appointments are usually
needed to complete testing. (Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies, and Writing).
Reading and Social Studies may be taken during the same test session. Math cannot be
the first test taken.
Note: You will need to arrive 30 minutes early on the day of the first test session to
complete additional paperwork.

Tuition of $25.00 per quarter is required for ALL BAS, ABE, GED, and ESL classes.

Registration Steps for Online Courses
Admission & Registration Steps
To enroll in an online course:
1. Locate the online class you want to take this quarterly schedule. All online
classes in this schedule are identified with a : symbol.
2. Register for your online class through the BTC website or in person.
If you need assistance after registering, there will be help in the BTC library the
first 2 weeks of each quarter (check www.btc.ctc.edu for available hours), or we
can assist you with your questions at any time at elearninghelp@btc.ctc.edu
3. After registering log onto: http://angel.btc.ctc.edu one week prior to class for
information about getting into your online classroom.
4. Books can purchased online or through the BTC bookstore.
6Pay Tuition and Fees
Tuition and fees payment is due by the date
specified on the College Calendar on the
BTC website under quicklinks. Pay online at
www.btc.ctc.edu/pay or at the cashier window
in the College Services building. You may pay
by cash, check, VISA, MasterCard, or financial
aid award.

new to BTC. In this information-packed session,
we’ll introduce you to all the resources you
need to be a successful BTC student. From
support systems and online services to advisors
and counselors, GET READY! will ensure that
you know where to find help when you need it.

8Purchase Books
Take your printed class schedule and the
bookstore staff will help find your required
books. BTC’s Campus Store is located in
Campus Center. Textbook lists can be found
at the bookstore or at www.btcbookstore.
com. The bookstore accepts cash, checks, VISA,
MasterCard and debit cards.
9Student ID Card
Purchase your student ID card at the bookstore.
You’ll need a Student ID Card OR photo ID for
certain registration transactions. Some BTC
programs require a Student ID card.
Your Student ID card qualifies you for
discounted WTA (Whatcom Transit Authority)
bus passes, discounts at many local vendors,
and access to the Western Washington
university and Whatcom Community College
libraries. IDs are available at the bookstore for
a cost of $7.50—bring your printed student
schedule.
