3.2.5 JRC announces re-structuring
for FP6
In preparation for the launch of the Sixth
Framework programme (FP6) in November
2002, the European Commission's Joint
Research Centre (JRC) is to restructure its
management arrangements. Barry Mc-
Sweeney, Director-General of the JRC, said:
"In planning the restructuring, I took many
factors into account, important among
those being the background, expertise and
qualification of Directors. Another consideration
about five years in their position have been
moved." All new appointees have both scientific
provide strong leadership and direction.
The changes below will come into effect on
1st November 2002.
the Director-General on Science and Technology,
with particular emphasis on increasing
the linkages with European
scientific organisations. He will be based
in Ispra.
•Alejandro Herrero, current Director of Science
Strategy, based in Brussels, will become
