Evolution of mobile networks
Evolution of transmission networks is driven by three main
factors: the need for capacity growth, the move from voice
to data, and leased-line substitution. The Ericsson microwave
offer facilitates evolution through quick and easy
implementation of strategic nodes, remote upgrades, and
hop compatibility with previous Ericsson equipment.
Capacity growth
Ericsson offers unmatched support for capacity growth.
MINI-LINK TN has scalable architecture with plug-in units
that are easily added or replaced without affecting the
ongoing traffic. Soft Keys facilitate remote upgrade and
reconfiguration of nodes.
The MINI-LINK radio unit fully supports any frequency
and any transport mode, and is capable of high capacity
transmission accessible through Soft Keys in a true investas-you-grow
fashion. The radio unit fully supports adaptive
modulation, which is an upcoming feature of future modems.
Marconi LH is a high capacity trunk radio with a highly
modular and compact building practice that makes it easily
scalable with increasing capacity needs.
Legacy operators are faced with the challenge
of preparing for Full Service Broadband through
proactive Evolution, in order to enhance provisions
and find additional revenue streams. They sometimes
find themselves direct rivals to fixed-lined
broadband operators. With Ericsson microwave
they quickly and cost-effectively create future-proof
solutions with great potential for capacity as the
subscriber base grows.
Migration from voice to data
The move from voice to data traffic means accelerating
needs for capacity. Traffic aggregation is an effective way to
postpone investment in further increase of link capacities.
The integrated ATM aggregation facilities of the MINI-LINK
TN liberate capacity when introducing mobile broadband
services. Initial savings are typically 75-90%.
Migration from voice to data also implies migration towards
Ethernet-based transmission. The Ericsson microwave
offer provides a variety of transport alternatives for wireline
and mobile traffic. Existing MINI-LINK E networks are easily
upgraded to Ethernet capability through the introduction of
MINI-LINK TN indoor units at strategic nodes, simultaneously
supporting both TDM and Ethernet over the same hop.
MINI-LINK TN supports the required Quality of Service for
Ethernet traffic in mobile and multi-service networks. Ethernet
switching is integrated into the MINI-LINK TN.
Leased line substitution
Ericsson provides a competitive combination of services
and solutions that supports quick and easy substitution of
leased line transmission to self built microwave transmission.
Benefits are reduced marginal cost of capacity as well as
increased flexibility and control.
