Summer Playground Program<br />

The <strong>Village</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Saukville</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers a Summer Playground Program that<br />

<strong>of</strong>fers creative and energetic leaders, active games, theme craft<br />

sessions, and fun field trips. A trip to the Port Washington outdoor<br />

pool is <strong>of</strong>fered once a week (weather permitting). Our goal is to <strong>of</strong>fer<br />

a safe and worry free experience for both the child and parent. This<br />

is not a day-care program, rather an afternoon alternative <strong>of</strong> outdoor<br />

fun and structured activities for kids ages six (and entering 1st<br />

grade) through 14 (and not yet in high school). Parents must have<br />

alternate arrangements in place in the event <strong>of</strong> emergency closing.<br />

The Playground Program runs Monday through Friday 12:30 to 5:00<br />

p.m. (Wednesdays to 4:30 p.m.) We will be closed on July 4, <strong>2011</strong>.<br />

Programming begins Monday, June 20 th at Grady Park and runs<br />

through August 12 th . Registration begins Monday, May 9, <strong>2011</strong> at<br />

<strong>Village</strong> Hall (Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) .<br />

River Fest Community Clean-up — May 21, <strong>2011</strong><br />

Come join the 16 th Annual <strong>Saukville</strong> River Fest, a time dedicated to<br />

cleaning along the banks <strong>of</strong> the Milwaukee River, <strong>Village</strong> parks, and<br />

streets! This event, scheduled for Saturday, May 21, <strong>2011</strong> is sponsored<br />

by the <strong>Village</strong> Room Tax and includes participation <strong>of</strong> local<br />

businesses. The event promotes family, fun, cooperation, and environmental<br />

responsibility and awareness among citizens.<br />

Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. at Grady Park with clean-up to follow<br />

until about 11:30 a.m. Bus transportation will be provided for volunteers<br />

to work various sites. Participants are strongly urged to wear<br />

long pants, shirts, heavy duty shoes, and gloves for safety. Fully<br />

enclosed footwear MUST be worn. Lunch is provided at Grady Park<br />

after the clean-up and participants will receive a “thank you” gift.<br />

Fire Department<br />

Registration at <strong>Village</strong> Hall is required before your<br />

child can attend the Summer Playground Program.<br />

An Open House and Registration will be held at<br />

Grady Park on Tuesday, June 14 th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.<br />

The fee for <strong>Saukville</strong> residents is $110.00 per child; family maximum<br />

$220.00. Non-resident fee is $125.00 per child. A t-shirt is included<br />

with your registration fee.<br />

Registration forms for the Summer Playground Program are available<br />

online at www.village.saukville.wi.us (Community/<br />

Recreation). You can view the entire <strong>2011</strong> <strong>Village</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Saukville</strong> Park<br />

and Recreation Program and print any desired sections or forms.<br />

Copies are also available at <strong>Village</strong> Hall and Oscar Grady Library.<br />

Call <strong>Village</strong> Hall (284-9423) with questions or for more information.<br />

Registration is required for participation. Minors must<br />

have at least one (1) parent/guardian, or approved<br />

responsible adult, accompanying them the day <strong>of</strong> the<br />

clean-up. Community groups are encouraged to<br />

participate.<br />

Obtain a registration form at <strong>Village</strong> Hall, Oscar Grady Library, or<br />

download the form from the <strong>Village</strong> website. Advance registration<br />

forms should be turned in at <strong>Village</strong> Hall by 4:00 p.m. Friday, May<br />

20, <strong>2011</strong> or you can register the day <strong>of</strong> the event at 8:30 a.m. at<br />

Grady Park.<br />

Chief Gilly Schultz and the members <strong>of</strong> the Department would like to thank those <strong>Village</strong> residents and businesses who “Adopted the<br />

Neighborhood Fire Hydrant” this past winter season. We appreciate this show <strong>of</strong> community spirit and cooperation with the Department.<br />

As spring turns to summer, the Fire Department would once again like to remind all residents there are several <strong>Village</strong> fire safety ordinances<br />

frequently violated. Violators may receive a citation and a bill for fire services if we respond to complaints <strong>of</strong> illegal burning.<br />

§101-17 B(1)(a) The use <strong>of</strong> electric, charcoal, wood or gas portable or permanent cooking grills designed and sized for normal residential<br />

outdoor use will not be permitted to be used or stored above the first story <strong>of</strong> any building, including on a balcony, raised porch, or platform.<br />

Fire Department <strong>of</strong>ficials have noticed grills <strong>of</strong> various sizes and types on balconies <strong>of</strong> apartment and condominium buildings.<br />

IF YOU HAVE A GRILL ON A BALCONY PLEASE REMOVE IT.<br />

§101-17 B(1)(e) Recreational campfires in a covered or approved container or device located at least 10 feet from all combustibles, buildings,<br />

decks, and lot lines, with prior written permit from the Fire Chief, are permitted with special requirements that must be followed. Permits<br />

are available at <strong>Village</strong> Hall during regular business hours. Recreational campfire devices are not allowed on combustible (wooden)<br />

decks.<br />

The <strong>Saukville</strong> Fire Department has received its newest piece <strong>of</strong> apparatus and the Port Washington Fire Department will host the formal<br />

“Baptism” or Wet Down at the <strong>Saukville</strong> Fire Department on July 9th . Watch for more information as the date approaches.<br />

Chief Schultz is pleased to announce the appointment <strong>of</strong> Carolyn Flood as Lieutenant/Training Officer <strong>of</strong> the Emergency Medical Services<br />

Division <strong>of</strong> the Fire Department. Lt. Flood replaces Phyllis Carrier who retired after many dedicated years <strong>of</strong> service to the community.<br />

We are currently looking for men and women who wish to serve their community as a paid, on call fire fighter or EMT. If you are interested,<br />

please stop at the fire house any Monday night between 6:30 - 7:00 pm. You may also pick up an application at <strong>Village</strong> Hall.<br />
