GENERAL INFORMATION<br />

Graduate Student Association<br />

The Graduate Student Association (GSA) is an organization concerned with the<br />

intellectual and social growth of graduate students at <strong>Baylor</strong> Uni ver si ty. The GSA sponsors<br />

activities and programs that facilitate an ex change of ideas, pro mo tion of scholarly<br />

development, cultivation of social sup port systems, and dis sem i na tion of other information<br />

concerning grad u ate stu dent life. All students currently enrolled for one or more semester<br />

hours of graduate coursework to ward an advanced degree and with a grad u ate GPA of 3.0<br />

or greater are au to mat i cal ly members of the GSA. Students desiring further in for ma tion<br />

about the GSA should contact the Deanʼs Offi ce, 254-710-3588 or check out the website<br />

at www.baylor.edu/gsa.<br />

Health Insurance<br />

Information about health insurance may be secured through <strong>Baylor</strong> Health Services,<br />

One Bear Place #97060, Waco, TX 76798-7060 or call 254-710-7425.<br />

International students are required to have health insurance. All international<br />

students are automatically enrolled in the university-sponsored health insurance plan;<br />

charges are added to the studentʼs bill each semester. Rates for the Fall 2005 semester were:<br />

Students, $510; Student and Spouse, $1,930; Student and Children, $1,020; Student, Spouse<br />

and Children, $2,436. Rates for the 2006-2007 academic year will be similar.<br />

Campus Safety<br />

<strong>Baylor</strong> considers personal safety on campus a top priority. Residence halls enforce a<br />

locked door policy and residents are asked to swipe their student IDs at main entrances to<br />

show residential sta tus and to gain access to their building.<br />

The <strong>Baylor</strong> Department of Public Safety provides additional 24-hour security with car<br />

and bike patrols and works in close alliance with the Waco Po lice Department to create<br />

a safe environment for the university community. Seventy-fi ve emergency call boxes are<br />

located on campus with direct ac cess to BDPS, which has a staff of thirty-three, including<br />

twenty-one commissioned police offi cers.<br />

<strong>Baylor</strong>ʼs Crime Prevention and Security Report is provided annually to all students and<br />

is available at http://www.baylor.edu/DPS.<br />

ADMISSIONS<br />

Admission to the Graduate School of <strong>Baylor</strong> <strong>University</strong> is conducted by formal<br />

application. The Graduate School strongly prefers the applicant to apply online. The online<br />

application is available at www.baylor.edu/graduate/application. Graduate admissions<br />

committees will consider the entire application when making admission decisions, and<br />

each piece of the application is important. In addition to an application, applicants must<br />

submit an application fee, offi cial standardized test scores, offi cial transcripts, and letters<br />

Bear Place #97264, Waco, Texas 76798-7264. Qualifi ed students will be admitted regardless<br />

of race, color, national or ethnic origin, gender, age, or disability.<br />
