posed. So great was the interest in<br />

Dr. Malik’s presentation that the<br />

audience requested an additional<br />

session to be provided so that further<br />

information/discussion could<br />

be had. In order to satisfy this<br />

demand, another two hour session<br />

of classes was held the next morning<br />

(Friday, June 29th). <strong>The</strong> audience<br />

greatly appreciated the lectures<br />

and it was recommended that<br />

they be repeated in Nigeria and<br />

compiled into book form.<br />

Friday began quietly enough with<br />

congregational Fajr prayers and<br />

Quran dars in the morning, a final<br />

session of the classes at mid-day,<br />

and Jummah prayers with an inspiring<br />

khutba by Brother Sadr-ud-<br />

Dean Sahukhan at Masjid-ul- Uruj<br />

in the afternoon. But this quiet<br />

mood soon changed.<br />

In the late afternoon a line of<br />

severe thunderstorms rampaged<br />

through Indiana, Ohio and<br />

Pennsylvania with blinding rain,<br />

hail, lightning and winds approaching<br />

80 mph. At Masjid al Uruj, the<br />

lights went out as high winds with<br />

horizontally driven sheets of rain<br />

battered the structure. <strong>The</strong> thunder<br />

peals and lightning flashes with<br />

swaying trees and churning waters<br />

in the adjacent pond was a frightening<br />

sight. Everybody gathered in<br />

the masjid until the storm passed.<br />

It was only when the storm<br />

cleared and we went to the<br />

Embassy Suites hotel for the<br />

evening session that we realized<br />

the extent and severity of the damage.<br />
