Dr. C.T. Daniel had a real passion
for helping less fortunate people
and was instrumental in helping to
establish The CARE Clinic. He
joined the free clinic steering committee
in 1992 and spent much of his
free time increasing community
awareness of the clinic’s mission by
speaking to churches and civic groups
to solicit their support. Even as his
health began to decline, Dr. Daniel
remained involved recruiting physicians
to volunteer their services,
attending indigent care conferences, and volunteering at special events.
In recognition of his active involvement with our clinic, Mrs. Joan Daniel
and her family have chosen to sponsor an exam room in memory of Dr. C.T.
Daniel. We are thrilled to have a lasting tribute to Dr. Daniel in our new clinic
and we appreciate the Daniel family’s generosity in supporting the mission
of The CARE Clinic.
FATHER “K” MEMORIALIZED
Father Corbin Ketchersid, former pastor of St. Elizabeth
Ann Seton Catholic Church, was a strong supporter of
The CARE Clinic’s mission in the early days while we
were still struggling to become established. Not only did
he encourage his congregation to financially support the
clinic, he often volunteered his time to do whatever needed
to be done. Volunteers who have been with the clinic
a long time still talk about the time Father K drove the
bulldozer to tear down an old warehouse on the property
to make way for a new board room.
In recognition of all the time and dedication he gave
the clinic, Mrs. Mary Neral has chosen to sponsor the Work Room in our new
building in memory of her brother, Father “K”. We are honored Mrs. Neral

Joseph Boles, President of The CARE Clinic Board of Directors, was
presented with Cumberland Community Foundation’s prestigious
Nonprofit Leadership Award at the Foundation’s Nonprofit Awareness
Month Reception on November 21st. The Leadership award was created
by the Foundation in 2003 to recognize, encourage, and reward
extraordinary nonprofit leadership by a board member.
Mr. Boles is definitely an extraordinary board member. Despite
his busy schedule as a business owner, Joey believes in giving back to
his community, and not just by writing a check. When he becomes
involved with an organization, Joey generously offers his time, talents
and treasure without expecting any recognition for his efforts. He
began his service to The CARE Clinic in July 2002 and has remained
active and involved since that time. Joey suggested and sponsored
our first souvenir wine glass at our Wine Tasting in 2004 and his family
not only sponsored but personally catered our Volunteer
Appreciation Dinner for three years. He has served as Chair of the
Development Committee, President of the Board in FY 2005-06, on
the Facilities Committee during the crucial period of planning and
building the new clinic, and is currently serving his second term as
President. In addition to sharing his own gifts, he is one of our
strongest advocates and uses the contacts he has developed as a lifelong
member of this community to benefit our clinic.
Mr. Boles believes passionately in the work of The CARE Clinic.
To quote him, “Most of these (patients) are working class people.
They just need a break. If we can change one person’s life for the better
or save one person’s life, everything that we’ve done with the clinic
has been worthwhile.”
We are honored to have Joey Boles as a member of our Board of
Directors and appreciate Cumberland Community Foundation recognizing
him with their Nonprofit Leadership Award. The award
included a $1,000 grant from the Foundation for The CARE Clinic
to spend on staff training or board development.

MILITARY ASSISTANCE
For over ten years The CARE Clinic has been
privileged to serve as a clinical rotation site for
third year Family Practice Residents from
Womack Army Medical Center. Every Tuesday
night a resident from Womack is assigned to work
with one of our volunteer physicians helping treat
CARE Clinic patients. The agreement has been
mutually beneficial in that it increases the number
of physicians available to staff the clinic while providing
the residents with a valuable community
health experience.
We are pleased to announce we have a new
agreement with Womack to have their Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery residents staff our dental clin-

ic one day each month for a four year period. Dr.
Jeffrey Almony, an instructor in the program, has
been volunteering with the clinic since 2005. He
recognized the type of patient seen at The CARE
Clinic could provide an important dimension to his
residents’ training, so he took the initiative and formalized
the arrangement. As of October 28th, the
residents and their instructors have been staffing
our dental clinic the fourth Tuesday of the month.
We are deeply grateful to Dr. Almony for his
commitment to serving our patients and appreciate
Womack Army Medical Center’s partnership in our
mission.

Partnership
with Habitat
for Humanity
The Fayetteville Area Habitat
for Humanity requires homeowners
to contribute 400 hours
of “sweat equity” towards the
purchase of their new home.
Since some of their homeowners
are physically unable to help
build their home, Habitat for
Humanity has approved a limited
number of other organizations
where their homeowners
can volunteer their time to satisfy
this requirement. The
CARE Clinic has agreed to
serve as one of these sites. One
future homeowner who is volunteering
as a receptionist in
our evening clinics says “I feel
very blessed and appreciate the
opportunity The CARE Clinic has
given me to complete my required
hours volunteering for such a wonderful
organization.”
Robert, 24, has lived with a growth on his neck
for most of his life. Although it had grown to
the point he had trouble swallowing and suffered
constant pain in his neck and shoulder, Robert had
little hope of finding relief because he has no health
insurance. Then he made an appointment at The
CARE Clinic to have a tooth pulled, and his life was
changed forever.
Our Clinical Director, Katheryn Jenifer, saw his
neck and had him seen by the volunteer military
physician on duty, Dr. Blackwell. Robert was sent
for an ultrasound and biopsy. Dr. Blackwell, Ms.
Jenifer, and Ms. Ginny, a volunteer social worker,
Panoramic Dental X-Rays
The CARE Clinic is the proud recipient of a panoramic x-ray unit,
generously donated by Dr. J. Michael Ruff. Although we had not
planned for this equipment when we were designing our building, we
were able to find an area that could accommodate the installation and
operation of the unit. All we needed to do was to get an electric outlet
installed and run the cables for the control unit, a relatively minor
adjustment to add a great benefit for our patients.
With the panoramic x-ray we are able to quickly take full mouth
x-rays. This allows our Dental Assistants to get x-rays on wisdom
teeth easier and is beneficial for patients who may be returning to
have more teeth pulled. We are excited to offer this new service to
our volunteer dentists and our patients, and we appreciate Dr. Ruff’s
generous donation.
Operation Inasmuch
Snyder Memorial Baptist Church again blessed The CARE Clinic
with their dedicated volunteers during Operation Inasmuch. On
Saturday, October 25th, volunteers planted bushes and spread mulch
in the beds across the front of our building and along the walkway at
the patient entrance to the clinic. The beautiful landscaping makes
us look much more settled and puts a finishing touch on our new
building. Other volunteers at Snyder made “reindeer bags”, brown
bags cut out and decorated to look like reindeer and filled with candy.
The bags were given to patients seen at our clinic in December.
Thank you to Snyder Memorial Baptist Church for your continuing
support of our mission.
A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE

persevered until they were able to arrange for
Robert to have surgery for a hyperactive thyroid
and goiter.
A week after the surgery, Robert came by to
thank everyone involved with the clinic for changing
his life. He says he can’t stop looking in the
mirror to admire his neck, and he is eating anything
and everything now that he can swallow again. He
has a new found enthusiasm about life and is looking
forward to doing his favorite things…"cooking
and eating". Robert shared that when he wins the
lottery, he is coming to The CARE Clinic first.

2008 Holiday Card Donations
The CARE Clinic receives donations during the
Christmas season from businesses and individuals in
honor or memory of a friend or loved one. These
donations are given as alternatives to traditional
gifts for the holiday for business associates, clients,
pastors, friends and family. Holiday acknowledgement
cards are sent out from the clinic. This year
