REINFORCEMENT
Local Reinforcement
Local reinforcement is required around each
DSD dowel and sleeve component to bridge
any fine cracks that develop in the concrete as
the dowels transfer load. Correct detailing in
accordance with BS 8110 and the
recommendations provided here, will ensure
the Ancon DSD and DSDQ shear connectors
attain their full capacity.
Bar diameter
Vertical Reinforcement
Cross Sectional Area (CSA) is calculated as
CSA =
2.4 x Serviceability Load x (Joint Width + Slab Thickness) x 103 follows:-
0.87 x fy x (Slab Thickness - (2 x Cover) - Bar Diameter)
Example DSD100 used in 400mm thick slab
Actual serviceability load = 100kN Joint width = 20mm
Bar diameter = 16mm fy = 500N/mm 2 Cover = 40mm
CSA = = 762mm2 2.4 x 100 x (20 + 400) x 103
0.87 x 500 x (400 - 80 - 16)
Use 4 - H16 U-Bars (actual area - 804mm 2 )
Top and Bottom Reinforcement
CSA =
Area of Vertical Reinforcement
