GOD’S INCREDIBLES—When Ordinary People do Extraordinary Things
It can seem daunting to read the stories of the people in the bible; we often think that we
could never be like them. After all, they were special right? Actually, the people in the bible
were ordinary and just like us. They did have incredible faith to follow God and that made
them extraordinary. During this series we’ll learn how to have incredible faith by hearing
the stories of those who were incredible through their faith in God.
May 6 Jonathan: Incredible Loyalty
Jonathan and David were best friends from the time they first met. When David became a
threat to Saul, Jonathan’s father, Jonathan had to make a choice. He chose loyalty to his best
friend and God’s choice. This morning, Jonathan teaches us that loyalty to God and his followers
is truly incredible.
May 13 Shiphrah & Puah: Incredible Ingenuity
Pharaoh ordered the death of all Hebrew boys at birth. Shiprah and Puah were incredible when
they defied Pharaoh and followed God. Their creative cunning saved many lives including Moses.
How can we be shrewd and cunning in this world of temptation and serve the Lord?
May 20 Gideon: Incredible Strength
Gideon went into battle following God’s direction. The Lord said take three hundred against
tens of thousands and Gideon followed. Gideon showed strength to conquer any battle. Gideon
teaches us how to have strength in our daily battles.
May 27 Spirit of Worship
Early in the morning Peter felt the power of the Holy
Spirit and gave an amazing LifeTalk where 3000 came to
Christ. This morning we’ll dive into this remarkable
scripture passage and find out how we too can feel the
power of the Holy Spirit and worship God.
GRADUATION RECOGNITION
On Sunday, June 3 rd we'll be having our graduation service for those students finishing their high
school and college studies. This will be a unique and special morning as we incorporate families
into this time of celebration through participation during the service. If you have a graduating
student, please email the church office (mail@xpointumc.org) by Sunday, May 27 th and include
information about his/her current school and plans for the future.

CROSSPOINT @ COLONIAL PARK—
WORSHIP AT 8:00, 9:30 AND 11:00 A.M. by Dave Biser
We’ve celebrated Easter and moved right into the heart of Spring together. What an exciting
time of the year. And how exciting it is to see all of the things that are happening
each week at CrossPoint @ Colonial Park. Sunday mornings are filled with great worship
and biblical teaching. Wild Wednesday’s have the building jumping with food, rehearsals,
children and middle school student events, Bible study taught by Pastor Dave, and more. There is a new
air of excitement and a new spirit driven energy that is contagious. The building phase of the NEXT Project is
completed and the worship center looks great. All we need to do is finish raising the final $15,000 needed to replenish
the Capital Fund monies used to pay it forward. And now there is a new Sunday morning education opportunity
happening at 11:00 for those folks who attend the new 9:30 service. Invite your friends to see what God is doing at
Colonial Park…it’s nothing shy of Incredible!
FINDING YOUR WAY @ COLONIAL PARK
On February 26 th the Colonial Park campus made the switch in worship times and the
contemporary service moved from Sholter Hall to the Worship Center. Below are the answers
to a few commonly asked questions.
 What is the preaching schedule?
There is now only one preacher @ Colonial Park every week. The pastor preaching
for the day speaks at all three services. Pastor Dave is the primary preacher @ Colonial Park. He will be preaching
in the worship center three times a month. Pastor Jen will be preaching the third Sunday of the month. Pastor
Jen will be preaching at Rutherford on average two times a month and will be at South Hanover at least
quarterly.
Why is there a half hour between education time, 9:15-10:30, and worship at 11:00?
While education is over at 10:30, we still need 30 minutes to reset and transition the worship center from the
blended 9:30 service to the contemporary at 11:00. Many churches already have this schedule of a half hour
interim to give people enough time to end class, rest, visit with friends and grab a cup of coffee before heading
into worship.
 When is education time?
Education for children, youth and adults is still offered at 9:15 a.m. A few adults have expressed interest in an
education class at 11:00 a.m. If you are interested please contact Helen Patrick at hpatrick@xpointumc.org.
The doors are sometimes closed to the Worship Center; am I allowed to enter?
A lot of transition takes places between each worship service. The musicians need time to check the sound system
and prepare to offer you the best possible worship experience. This is your church and you may still enter
the space, we ask that you please be patient with the musicians who need a quiet room to properly set the
sound equipment.
Change is never easy. We believe that the new worship space provides one distinct area for worship and allows time
for community building in the hallways and lobby. Please be patient with your church as we work out the kinks of
the new sound system and the new traffic patterns throughout the building and the grounds.

CROSSPOINT @ RUTHERFORD—WORSHIP AT 9:30 A.M. by Chris Hitz
PAGE 3
Strategy for Life: “Wear a helmet and kneepads – it will hurt less.” - Gretchen Rupp. Yep, a
strategy for life, that’s just one of the many rewards (and laughs) that I get from being with
the Champions at Rutherford. Gretchen has endured 10 time anything I have – nonetheless,
she has a better attitude than me!
Fun: Fun is just FUN! So for the Big Easter Egg Hunt we had well over 115 kids enjoy the live bunnies, peeps,
rooster, and over 4,000 eggs! That’s BIG fun in kid land. And oh yeah, nearly everyone went through the Church
and said, “Wow, this is so nice and inviting in here.” I’ll bet you we see several of them stop back.
Rededication: OK, so I am previewing a movie for use at Church; and there’s this scene where a strong headed
young Dad realizes he simply can’t beat back the forces pressing against him – so he tells his friend that he has, “…
turned my whole life, my family, and my farm over to Christ.” Right then and there I knew I had to do rededicate
my whole life, family, and work back over to Christ. And as soon as I did peace came over me, and anxiety parted.
Inspiration: How about this one; a STRONG Champion is turning the tide on a decades old battle against a doublefisted
demon that has stalked them since childhood. Wow, the power of God! So that’s a sampling of the fun and
life change that God has been orchestrating @ Rutherford. If you know anyone over our way, tell em’ to swing in –
we’re waiting for them.
CROSSPOINT @ SOUTH HANOVER—
WORSHIP SATURDAY AT 5:00 P.M. AND SUNDAY AT 9:30 A.M. by Jason Mackey
Building Community…
It’s something we do at all three of our CrossPoint Campuses. At Colonial Park it’s done in education
and worship opportunities. At Rutherford it’s done in the Food Pantry, Clothing Connection,
Power Pak Program and Home Improvement Ministry. And at South Hanover, although we do it through the
coffeehouse, we are still looking for more ways to build community. So over these next few months we will be
working on some possibilities. Will we reach into the Women At Risk ministry that holds a monthly boutique at the
Perking Point? Will we consider a Saturday morning homework help and pajama party for elementary aged students?
Is a family game night for all ages something that’s needed in the community? Or is it something else that
sparks our passion? Join us for the conversation and let’s see how we can continue Building Community. If you
have any questions or want to know how to get involved, contact Pastor Jason at 717-545-1911 or jmackey@xpointumc.org.
Beginning in June summer office hours will be 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through
Thursday with the office being closed on Fridays.
After Labor Day we will resume regular office hours of 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday
through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. – Noon on Fridays.

NURSERY SCHOOL NEWS by Jennifer Hecker
Wow! Another month has flown past. It is hard to believe that we are entering our last month
of school. It is always a joy to see the children as they continue to celebrate Jesus; resurrection
with their songs and celebrations. We look forward to our last month of school as we finish up
projects and continue our work together. Each child is such a tremendous blessing!!
DID YOU SEE? - Once the modular unit was removed the Pre-K Class decided they would
like to plant some flowers. They beautified the entrance to the Nursery School by planting bulbs in the fall. Their
patience in waiting for their bulbs to bloom has been rewarded. They are truly awed by how the bulbs have blossomed.
We are all enjoying God’s world with our 5 sense. Each child can be seen looking for the newest blossoms
so they can run over and “sniff” the delicate fragrance of the flowers!
May prayer focus: For the end of the school year preparations, activities and celebrations.
NURSERY SCHOOL REGISTRATION
We have limited openings in our Nursery School Classes for the upcoming school year. Those interested may contact
Jennifer Hecker at the church office.
A FOND FAREWELL
NURSERY SCHOOL JOB OPENING
WELCOME STEVENS EMMANUEL!
It’s been nearly two months since Stevens Emmanuel United Methodist
Church started worshipping @ Colonial Park. You can find this Spanish
speaking congregation in Sholter Hall every Sunday morning at 11:30. There is
a special time with children during the worship hour on the 100 level and education
begins after worship, at approximately 1:00 p.m. If you would like to
attend a service, the congregation always provides translation to anyone who
speaks English.
We have been blessed with the amazing teaching abilities of Mrs. Lisa Fetters for eight years
as she educates the children in the 3 Year Old Classes. We have a heavy heart, but a smile
as we recollect all of our times together! However, Mrs. Fetters will be “retiring” from the
Nursery School at the end of the school year. She moves onto a new stage of her life where
she will be working full-time. We wish her many blessings and include her in our prayers as
she begins this new phase of her life!
Please join us in prayer as we begin our search for a new 3 Year Old Teacher. Once a qualified
candidate has been hired we will notify you.
The Nursery School Team is seeking a qualified teacher for the 3 Year Old Classes for the 2011-2012 school year.
The ideal applicant should have teaching experience and a degree/certificate in education or a related field. For additional
information including a job description and application please contact Jennifer Hecker at 717-545-1911, ext.
Nursery School Improvements Needed
CROSSPOINT CHRISTIAN CHILD CARE by Suzanne Brubacher
God is Good!!
PAGE 5
As an award winning school we strive to do everything with excellence. We have a few improvement projects that
we would like to tackle over the next several months to spruce up our classrooms with a fresh coat of paint and to
add storage. We thought we would share our “wish list” with you. If you would like to help you may make donations
noting on the memo line “Nursery School Improvements.” I am sure if we gather our monies together we can
do great things!
Our Wish List:
A fresh coat of paint in child friendly colors for each of our 3 classrooms (current estimates of materials and
labor are at about $3,800)
Upper cabinetry to add storage above the existing cabinetry in each room (estimate pending)
A small full size refrigerator for the Director’s office to hold juice and snacks making it more accessible to
Nursery School Staff (8-10 cubic feet estimated cost $300-$450).
April has been full of many blessings in child care. We had a wonderful Easter celebration and feast. The children
learned about Jesus’ death and resurrection. They dyed eggs and enjoyed an egg hunt.
We also celebrated reaching our goal in the Giant A+ Reward program. We had set our sites high this year at $500
and came in at almost $550!!! Thanks so much to all the families who registered their bonus cards under us and
helped us achieve this goal. I will keep you posted on what we purchase with the funds.
We are looking for volunteers for our “work day” on Saturday, May 5 th. We are growing a garden this year during
summer camp. All the classes will take turns with garden duty with Ms. Lori. Her plan is to harvest enough fresh
fruits and vegetables to even provide some to the food pantry. We need shovels, rakes, hoes, Rototillers and lots of
people! If you can help out at all, even 20 minutes of your time, please email Ms. Suzanne at
Sbrubacher@xpointumc.org.
We are assembling a Parent Advisory Board for the child care. In addition to parents, we would love to see a couple
members from CrossPoint Church on the Board. If you are interested in more information, please call or email
me Sbrubacher@xpointumc.org or 545-7406.

THE INCREDIBLE EDIBLE EGG
THE QUICKER PICKER UPPER
Step into a bathroom at any of our three campuses and you’ll notice brand new paper towel
dispensers. We’ve streamlined our facilities and utilized our purchasing power to consolidate
our paper towels and toilet paper. We are working with Bortek Industries to purchase
our paper products; in exchange, they provided us with free new dispensers. The
paper towels save us $15 per case and no longer need expensive batteries to operate – an
awesome win win situation. Pay careful attention … toilet paper dispensers are on the way!
Okay, our eggs weren’t edible for the Easter Egg Hunts but they were incredible.
Thanks to your awesome support and the incredible work of Maddy
Shipe, CrossPoint collected over 10,000 eggs for the Easter Egg Hunts
@ Colonial Park and Rutherford. In fact, you were so generous that we
were also able to donate over 200 eggs and candy to the United Methodist
Children’s Home – AMAZING!
The amazing egg-travaganzas began on a drizzling Saturday morning @
Rutherford. The weather said it would clear up by 10:00 a.m. so the egg
hunt was a go. Nearly 20 volunteers spread out throughout the campus, pooper scooping, marking off land, making
signs, preparing the registration tables and of course, hiding eggs. As the weather started declining and the sprinkling
turned into a slow rain, the families began to swarm onto the campus. They were met by smiling hospitality greeters,
baby chicks and even a rooster. As the hunt began, approximately 120 kids swarmed onto the land and ‘found’ 4500
eggs. They even received a CrossPoint pen and an activity book that told the Easter story.
Then an egg-celent time was had by over 200 kids on the following Saturday as nearly 6500 eggs were scattered
across the Colonial Park campus. The morning began with a greeting and prayer by Maddy Shipe and then age
groups dispersed throughout the campus for activities centered around the Easter message. The children decorated
cookies, played games, enjoyed an Easter themed craft and heard the story of the resurrection through Easter Resurrection
Eggs. Over 20 ministry servants joined Maddy to make this such an egg-ceptional outreach event.

CLOTHING CONNECTION by Sue Metz
Who doesn't love a new outfit for Easter?!? We were able to provide two young boys
with suit jackets including a shirt and a tie to wear to their church on Easter Sunday....they
were so excited and happy. They even asked one of the volunteers to show
them how to tie a tie! Moments like this make sorting through the piles of clothing so
worthwhile.
Special Needs: If anyone has any plastic milk crates laying around that they aren't using, we would love to have
them for our extra hanger storage. The hangers fit in the crates very nicely. We also need infant and toddler clothing
and anything in adult sizes 1X and up.
Please keep your donations coming. Remember to take them into the church and not place them in the Community
Aid boxes. Items placed in the Community Aid boxes do not go to the Clothing Connection.
To volunteer to help sort clothing or host on a Saturday afternoon, please contact Sue Metz at 329-7300 or
suziqmetz@yahoo.com
The pantry team would like to thank the families and small groups that filled either a
dishpan or laundry basket for our pantry friends. Every family visiting the pantry on the
Saturday before Easter received one of these special Easter baskets. Many families expressed
deep appreciation for these needed items.
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the Easter Egg Hunt and to those who donated candy,
plastic eggs, stickers and sugar cookies! It was a huge success. We had over 200 kids participate and
6,300 eggs!
your part in the success of this program and look forward to your working with us in the future, as we strive to support the many families
who use the “House that love built”!
Thanks for allowing us to spend the night at your facilities. Your kindness was a blessing to us in preparing for our
DO YOU ENJOY GARDENING?
Please consider helping us maintain our flower garden at the Nursery School entrance.
If you can pull weeds or assist in basic plant care such as pruning and thinning
we need you. We would appreciate our plants having room to mature and
blossom. You may choose when and how long you work. Please contact Jennifer Hecker, Director, at 717-545-
Mission Central that is internet ready) at anytime possible whenever necessary.
In addition to all the valuable things you have given to us, me in particular, I would like to make a humble request for a digital camera.
LIFE POINTS – WHAT ARE THEY?
PAGE 11
A Discipleship Plan for adults is being worked on. Plus, an exciting plan
to equip parents to be the significant spiritual leader in the family is underway.
The premise is from Deuteronomy 6:4–9...Listen, O Israel! The
LORD is our God, the LORD alone. And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.
And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your
children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.
Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
We want to partner with all of our people, including parents, to get to the next step on their spiritual journey.
Look for our next LifePoints Summit this autumn!
AUTISM TRAINING VERY ENLIGHTENING
Our shepherds, Child Care Instructors and Nursery School Teachers and
aides want to know how to love some of our special needs children even
more – and effectively. Christy Winsky, from Central Dauphin School
District, spent a Tuesday and Thursday with us, educating us about her
passion – working with students on the autism scale. Everyone took a
huge practical piece home with them, as well as infinite knowledge. This
just tipped the iceberg, though, so we will be having another, different training in the fall.

CROSSPOINT FOOD PANTRY ....by Shawna Raymond
Pantry hours: First, Third and Fifth Saturdays 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
6570 Mifflin Ave., Harrisburg, PA 17111
JUNE 27—JULY 1, 2012
PAGE 13
Last year the CrossPoint Ignite Student Ministries built a raised garden bed and planted
seeds so our Food Pantry Friends could have access to fresh vegetables. This year, the students would like to turn
that project over to another group of volunteers. The Friends who use the Food Pantry will be the primary volunteer
helpers in the garden, but we welcome anyone who wants to help. The garden is located behind the Food Pantry
in the grassy area between the parsonage and parking lot of the Rutherford Campus, 6570 Mifflin Ave., Harrisburg,
PA 17111.
Volunteers will sign up to work in the garden planting seeds, pulling weeds, harvesting, and watering, if necessary.
All of the harvest will be donated to the CrossPoint Food Pantry. There are 22 weeks from spring to fall. So we need
22 individuals or families to each take a slot. You can show up any time during your week. Shawna Raymond has
agreed to plan the garden and coordinate the volunteer schedule. With everyone working a little bit, it won’t require
much time from any of us. To volunteer, sign up on the Communication Card and we will contact you. Here is our
“Wish List” of donations to get us started:
Tools—compost, shovel, hand trowel, cultivator, pruner, bucket, plant markers, stakes/trellis, scissors, twine, neon
orange duct tape, bags for weeds, bags for harvest
Summer Seeds/Plants—Basil, Onions, Scallions, Carrots, Green Peppers, Green Beans, Zucchini, Marigolds,
Tomatoes
Fall Seeds/Plants—Spinach, Lettuce, Kale
For May, the Food Pantry is in need of paper goods such as toilet paper, tissue, napkins, and paper towels.
1 ST SUNDAY BREAKFAST
Almost as special as breakfast in bed is FIRST SUNDAY BREAKFAST with the
YOUTH. We have enjoyed providing breakfast to the church and have enjoyed the support
from all campuses. Your generosity as well as your encouragement has meant a lot.
Join us on May 6 th for the last first breakfast of this school year. We are hoping to have a
lot of your favorites on hand as we celebrate not only parents and grandparents but our sisters and brothers in the
faith.
Can you believe it – As of May 1 st there are only 57 days until CREATION !!
We have had a cost reduction due to an anonymous very generous family who is
underwriting the cost of food for CREATION. Here is the good news – We still
have 4 tickets left. That’s right 57 days to go and we only have 4 tickets left. They
are on a first come first serve basis. If you have already signed up your final payment is due by May 30 th. This will
ensure that all arrangements can be made before we leave for this year’s mission trip. Please contact Jio Hardy at
nanajio@verizon.net to reserve your space. The cost is $125 for students and adults and $54.00 for children 6 and
older.

CHILDREN HELPING CHILDREN
Our children are always eager to help others – an endearing quality. One way that is available, is to
help other children – at the Food Pantry. So, please allow your child to choose something at the
grocery store that they can donate at church, to that child that is not so blessed. Show your children
how to count their blessings, and be a blessing. Each month we have a focus.
This month, we are collecting Apple Sauce (jars or lunch packs). All items must be new and unopened. Items can
be dropped off in the Food Pantry collection carts.
PERKING POINT UPDATE by Jennifer Williams
In December 2010 the congregation voted overwhelmingly to open a coffee shop
and a new campus in a strip mall on Route 39. God’s dream and CrossPoint
Church’s dream became a reality last September. We knew it would be hard, but we
discerned together that God was leading us in a new and unexpected direction.
Now after six months, times are getting difficult and we need your help and support.
The plan was to use part of the loan for the entire first year of operating expenses. (please see Church Conference
minutes from 12/10.) Unfortunately, construction costs went over budget by $35,000 and we contracted with a
reputable General Contractor who has since gone out of business. These overages have eaten into our cash cushion.
The Perking Point will now use up the last of its cash reserves sometime by the end of May.
Church Council has been addressing this situation every month and the business team of the Perking Point has
been working to increase cash flow and lower costs. Over the past six months we have: advertised through mailers/
coupons, handed out free samples at every Giant gas rewards day, contacted local businesses for support, adjusted
products to lower costs and cut staff hours to the absolute bare minimum needed for operation.
On Tuesday evening, April 17, Church Council took more severe action including, cutting operational hours, asking
for more unpaid staff verses paid staff and examining every product we sell, including the coffee selection. Church
Council also authorized the use of CrossPoint Church funds to cover any Perking Point costs through May 2012.
While the coffee shop has suffered over the last six months, worship attendance and giving @ South Hanover has
grown exponentially (53% and 17% respectively). Every week we have someone who signs the Communication
Card saying they found church by buying a cup of coffee at the Perking Point.
Just as you helped to discern God’s Will nearly 18 months ago, your help is desperately needed again. Here is how
you can help your church:
Pray – We believe in a God who can do all things. Pray God will do all things at the Perking Point and in
CrossPoint Church!
Serve – If you would like to be a barista and are willing to serve as an unpaid staff member, you are needed!
Come out and be trained and help serve coffee.
Give – God calls us to give all of ourselves including our finances. Support this amazing ministry that is
changes lives for Jesus Christ. If you would like to give over and above your regular tithing, please designate
on the gift/check Perking Point support.
Share – Tell your friends and neighbors about the Perking Point. Take someone out for a cup of coffee.
Spread the word about this place to share THE WORD.

COUNTING TEAM HELP NEEDED
A person is needed to serve on one of our counting teams that meet on Monday
mornings. For more information or to learn how you can help please contact
Kathy Goodman at the church office or kgoodman@xpointumc.org.
WANTED: ENCOURAGERS AND INTERCESSORS AND CRAFTERS!
Each summer approximately 20 of our students in first through twelfth grade attend one of the four church camps
of our Susquehanna Conference. Each year these students get to experience opportunities for authentic relationships
with Jesus Christ in community with other students and in the beauty of God’s creation. As a faith community,
we are looking for persons who would be willing to pray for each child as they attend their week of camp, and be
willing to send them a note as well. As an extra bonus this year, the idea came up to send homemade cards to the
campers from our church. But we need help. If you are interested in encouraging and supporting our campers in
these ways, please contact Helen Patrick at 545-1911 or hpatrick@xpointumc.org.
