ACCIDENTS
June 11
7:35 p.m. - According to the accident
report, Linda Aileen Pankow, 63, Algona,
was driving her 2001 Dodge Intrepid
north on Plum Creek Road at the intersec-
tion with 140th Avenue. A 2000 Dodge
Stratus owned by Elaine Helen Philips,
Bancroft, and driven by Clinton Philip
Davis, 20, Bancroft, failed to yield at the
intersection and struck the Intrepid on the
passenger side of car, causing both vehi-
cles to go in the ditch on the east side of
Plum Creek Road. A sign and post owned
by Kossuth County at the intersection of
Plum Creek Road and 140th Avenue was
also damaged in the accident. Damage to
the Intrepid was $5,000 and the vehicle
was estimated at $5,000 and the vehicle
was towed by Algona Frame and Body.
Damage to the Stratus was estimated at
$5,000 and the vehicle was towed by Al-
gona Frame and Body. Davis was cited
for failure to yield.
7:30 p.m. - According to the accident
report, Andrew Jay Goodrich, 42, Dela-
van, Minn., was driving a 1999 Harley
Davidson owned by DeAnna Kay Go-
odrich, Mapleton, Minn., southbound on
Hwy. 169. As he attempted to turn left
from Hwy. 169 to A16, the motorcycle hit
some small stones on roadway, causing
the bike to lose control. The Harley Da-
vidson was laid onto the left side, sliding
into the ditch. Damage to the motorcycle
was estimated at $3,000 and was towed
by Nick Camden. Goodrich was trans-
ported to Blue Earth Hospital by the El-
more Ambulance.
June 18
3 p.m. – According to the accident re-
port, Whitney Lee Shellenberg, 18, Wes-
ley, was driving a 1997 Chrysler Concord
owned by Thomas John Shellenberg,
Wesley, northbound on 230th Avenue,
approaching the intersection of Hwy. 18.
As she was driving, she failed to stop at
the stop sign when crossing Hwy. 18. She
struck the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu owned
and operated by Martin Daniel Walsh, 23,
24 Linden Drive, Mason City, who was
westbound on Hwy. 18. Damage to the
Concorde was estimated at $4,000 and
the vehicle was towed privately. Damage
to the Malibu was estimated at $4,000
and the vehicle was towed privately. No
injuries were listed in the accident report.
Shellenberg was cited: failure to yield on
entering a through highway.
June 20
4 p.m. – According to the accident re-
port, Randy Lee Thompson, 49, Manly,
was driving a 1999 International 8100
owned by D and R Enterprises south-
bound on 90th Avenue. He stopped at the
stop sign at the intersection with 210th
Street. Thompson thought this was a
four-way stop, and began pulling into
the intersection, failing to yield to the
through traffic. Realizing this, Thompson
slammed on his brakes. A 2006 Chevrolet
Town and Country owned and operated
by Debra Anne Kajewski, 32, Algona,
was eastbound on 210th Street. Kajewski
took evasive action and missed Thomp-
son, entering the south ditch and coming
to rest in a field. There was no contact
between vehicles. Damage to the Town
and Country was estimated at $5,000 and
the vehicle was towed by Kemna’s of Al-
gona. Kajewski and two passengers were
transferred to Kossuth Regional Health
Center by Algona Ambulance services.
No citations were listed in the report.
ATTENTION HANCOCK COUNTY TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS
CHANGES TO RURAL RECYCLING PROGRAM
Effective after the last recycling collection in June, Waste Manage-
ment will no longer be collecting recyclables from rural Township
residents in Hancock County. This is a decision made by Hancock
County, due to budget constraints. Township residents will still be
able to recycle by bringing their recyclables to drop boxes located
at the County sheds in Klemme, 511 N. Railroad Street; Kanawha,
201 Railroad Street; Miller, 1966 -290th Street; and Crystal Lake,
465 State Ave South. There will be recycling drop boxes at these
sheds on or about July 1, 2011.

Mayor Mick called the meeting to order at
7:01 pm.

approve a DOT Agreement with Communica-

The Hancock County, Iowa, Board of Super-
visors met in adjourned session on the above
captioned date pursuant to adjournment with
Supervisors Supervisor Florence (Sis) Thomas-
Greiman, Ted D. Hall and Jerry J. Tlach pres-
ent. Absent: none.
The minutes of the June 6, 2011 meeting
were read and approved.
On motion by Supervisor Tlach and seconded
by Supervisor Hall, the Board gave unanimous
approval to the following: At the discretion of
the department head, employees to receive
a maximum 35 cent per hour increase effec-
tive July 1, 2011. Appointment of Gary Gelner
as the county’s alternate representative to the
North Iowa Regional Housing Authority board.
Payroll increases for Dan Barickman, Second-
ary Road department, effective June 9, 2011 to
$17.38 per hour; payroll increase for Timothy
Riherd, Secondary Road Department, effective
September 9, 2010 to $17.38 per hour.
No further business to come before the
Board, motion made to adjourn at 12:30 p.m. by
Supervisor Tlach and carried. All Supervisors
present voting, “Aye,” session to adjourn and
will meet again on June 20, 2011.

The Hancock County Board of Supervisors
has received a construction permit application
for a confinement feeding operation, more spe-
cifically described as follows:
Name of Applicant: Greiman Brothers
Location of the operation: SouthEast Quarter
of NorthEast Quarter in Section 16, Ell Town-
ship
Type of confinement feeding operation struc-
ture proposed: Expansion of cattle feeding op-
eration with construction of five buildings: three
- 560 feet x 50 foot buildings and two – 240 foot
x 50 x buildings; all to be deep bedded manure
storage structures/cattle barns at an existing
site.
Animal Units: Increase from 440 head to
2,760 head
The application is on file at the Hancock
County Auditor’s office and is available for pub-
lic inspection during the following days: Monday
through Friday and hours 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
A public hearing on this application will be
held at 10:00 a.m. on July 5, 2011 at the Han-
cock County Board of Supervisors’ meeting lo-
cated in the Government Building adjacent to
the courthouse in Garner. Written comments
may be filed at the County Auditor’s Office until
the deadline of July 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.

STORM WATER DISHARGE
Ed Greiman plans to submit a Notice of Intent
to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to
be covered under the NPDES General Permit
No. 2 Storm Water discharge associated with
industrial activity for construction activities.
The storm water discharge will be from con-
struction of agricultural buildings located in SE
¼ of the NE ¼ of Section 16, To95N, R23W,
Hancock.
Storm water will be discharged from 1 point
source and will be discharged to the following
streams: middle east branch Iowa River.
Comments may be submitted to the Storm
Water Discharge Coordinator, Iowa Depart-
ment of Natural Resources, Environmental Pro-
tection Division, 502 E. 9 th Street, Des Moines,
