International Dialogue on Dams and<br />
Water Infrastructure. The Bureau of<br />
Oceans and International Environmental<br />
and Scientific Affairs (OES) at the U.S.<br />
State Department will coordinate a global<br />
dialogue on multi-purpose infrastructure<br />
and surrounding natural infrastructure at<br />
the nexus of water, food, and energy for<br />
the developing countries. The OES will<br />
fund one or a consortium of nonprofit<br />
and non-governmental organizations, or<br />
international organizations, to establish and<br />
implement the “Nexus Dialogue on Dams<br />
and Water Infrastructure Optimization.”<br />
Funding is up to US$297 thousand for<br />

World Agroforestry Center - Ann<br />
Stroud Memorial Scholarship for<br />
Agroforestry Research in East Africa.<br />
The World Agroforestry Center (ICRAF)<br />
offers a scholarship to postgraduate<br />
students in East Africa to conduct thesis<br />
research in collaboration with ICRAF.<br />
Applicants should be nationals of East<br />
Africa who are 35 years of age or less,<br />
and involved in agroforestry research,<br />
education, or development. The scholarship<br />
is tenable at any university in East Africa.<br />
The upper limit of support is US$5<br />
thousand. Applications are due at ICRAF<br />

African-Eurasian Waterbird<br />
Agreement - Small Grants 2012.<br />
AEWA makes grants to support waterbird<br />
conservation in African countries of the<br />
African-Eurasian Flyways. Grants are up to<br />
€25 thousand for projects of up to two years<br />
in AEWA countries, and up to €15 thousand<br />
for projects in countries of non-contracting<br />
parties. The program is open to government<br />
organizations and NGOs. The application<br />
deadline is 27 July 2012. Link<br />
Belmont Forum - International<br />
Opportunities Fund. The International<br />
Opportunities Fund will provide about<br />
€20 million to support global research on<br />
(i) coastal vulnerability, and (ii) freshwater<br />
security. The countries in this initiative are<br />
Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany,<br />
India, Japan, Russia, South Africa, UK,<br />
and USA. Some of these countries may<br />
also support participation from developing<br />
countries. Consortia will consist of partners<br />
from at least three participating countries -<br />
and bring together natural scientists, social<br />
scientists, and research users. Projects will<br />
be funded at €1 million to €2 million for<br />
two or three years. The deadline for preproposals<br />

Netherlands Organization for<br />
Cooperation in Higher Education<br />
(NUFFIC) - MENA Scholarships<br />
2012. The government of the Netherlands<br />
funds the MENA Scholarship Program to<br />
contribute to capacity building in seven<br />
countries of the Middle East and North<br />
Africa: Algeria, Iraq, Lebanon,Morocco,<br />
Oman, Syria, and Tunisia. The grants<br />
are to mid-career professionals who are<br />
employed by organizations and institutions<br />
in professional fields that include water<br />
management; agriculture, forestry, and<br />
fisheries; and geographic information<br />
science (among others). Each year, the<br />
program aims to support about 120<br />
professionals, half of whom are women.<br />
The application deadline is 02 July 2012.<br />

Regional Fund for Agricultural<br />
Technology - Agricultural Innovations<br />
in Latin America. The Regional Fund for<br />
Agricultural Technology (Fondo Regional<br />
de Tecnología Agropecuaria, FONTAGRO)<br />
promotes agricultural research and<br />
technology in Latin America and the<br />
Caribbean. In 2012, FONTAGRO invites<br />
case studies of successful innovations<br />
in small-scale agriculture in the region.<br />
Awards will be made for leading examples<br />
in the private sector (i.e., producers<br />
associations, processing and marketing<br />
organizations, NGOs); national R&D<br />
organizations and universities; and<br />
international organizations. FONTAGRO<br />
will award prizes ranging from US$5<br />
thousand to US$10 thousand, plus travel<br />
to Washington DC for the presentations.<br />
Submissions are due no later than 16 July<br />

Society of Environmental Journalists<br />
- Grants for Environmental<br />
Journalism 2012. The Society of<br />
Environmental Journalists (SEJ) makes<br />
grants for environmental journalism<br />
projects and entrepreneurial ventures.<br />
Journalists working independently, or on<br />
the staffs of either for-profit or nonprofit<br />
news organizations, are eligible to apply.<br />
There are no nationality restrictions.<br />
Funding is up to US$3,500 per grant. The<br />
application deadlines are 15 July 2012 and<br />

UNESCO with L’Oreal Corporate<br />
Foundation - Young Women in Life<br />
Sciences 2012. The UN’s Educational,<br />
Scientific, and Cultural Organization<br />
(UNESCO) and L’Oreal co-sponsor the<br />
annual “Fellowships for Young Women<br />
in Life Sciences.” A maximum of three<br />
young women (under age 35), from each<br />
of five geo-cultural regions of the world,<br />
are awarded research grants in biology,<br />
biotechnology, agriculture, and other<br />
life sciences. Special attention is given<br />
to applications from the least-developed<br />
countries. The initial fellowship is for up to<br />
12 months, for a maximum sum of US$20<br />
thousand. The closing date for applications<br />

U.S. National Science Foundation -<br />
International Research Experiences<br />
(IRES) for Students 2012. The NSF<br />
supports U.S. scientists and engineers in<br />
the early stages of their careers to engage<br />
in international research. Past fellowships<br />
include several in developing countries in<br />
subject areas such as ecology, renewable<br />
energy, climate change, and others.<br />
Proposals are due 21 August 2012. Link<br />
Zayed International Prize for the<br />
Environment - Sixth Cycle. The Zayed<br />
International Prize for the Environment<br />
offers cash prizes to recognize and promote<br />
pioneering contributions in environment<br />
and sustainable development. There are<br />
three categories: (i) Global leadership<br />
- US$500 thousand; (ii) Scientific and<br />
technological achievements - US$300<br />
thousand; and (iii) Environmental action<br />
leading to positive changes in society -<br />
US$200 thousand. The prizes are open to<br />
individuals and organizations worldwide.<br />
The nomination deadline for the Sixth<br />
