SOS (Support Our Seniors) Comox Valley will be starting up the new year with a meeting about seniors in care and what provisions there are for them in the event of a major disaster. We are hoping to have a panel of administrators and Emergency preparedness experts to answer our questions. The meeting will be on January 8th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the Lower Native Sons’ Hall, in the “Dining Room”. For more information call Jennifer 250-334-2321 or Gwyn 250-338-6265. VOLUNTEER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES VOLUNTEERS OF THE MONTH We are currently in the process of short listing the applications Pat Horrocks Pat has worked tirelessly in the Food Service since 2002. She serves as one of the offi cial trainers of new volunteers - she knows the in’s and out’s of the kitchen so well she can share her knowledge of the duties required with ease. Pat attributes this to her lifelong experience of volunteering in many community kitchens, be it with the church auxiliary, the community hall, or service groups. Her fellow volunteers always appreciate her smiling face along with her friendly and helpful attitude. Pat says she enjoys the camaraderie of working with such a great team of dedicated volunteers. Thank you and congratulations, Pat - the Evergreen Club is lucky to have you! SPECIAL EVENTS CONVENORS We need people to help organize upcoming special events and help facilitate volunteers. Hours and time commitment vary for each event - come join in the fun! MUFFIN HEROES Early risers. Ability to work with little supervision and your enjoyment of baking as well as preparing morning coff ee might be of interest to you. Shift 8am - 10:30am Monday to Friday, one week every six weeks. FOOD SERVICE HOSTESS/HOSTS This is a good place to meet new people and work as part of a dynamic team. One morning or aft ernoon per month or more! 10:30am - 1:00pm OR 1:00pm - 3:30pm. Food Safe is preferred but not mandatory - training is provided! Call the Filberg Centre at 250-338-1000 or email smurphy@courtenay.ca if you are interested in the volunteer positions noted above. New Volunteer Coordinator received for the part-time Volunteer Coordinator positon. Our plan is to have a new coordinator in place by February 4th, 2013. It all depends on the interview process. We have received and are accepting new applications for volunteers, however, interviews and placement for new volunteers may not occur until February. We appreciate your patience and understanding in the interim. Current volunteers should contact Susan at 250-338-1000 or by email at smurphy@courtenay.ca if you have questions or are unable to fullfi ll a upcoming volunteer committment with the Club. FOOD SERVICE The Food Service is open: 8:00 am - 3:30 pm Monday to Friday Closed on Saturdays REMINDER: Food Service will be closed until the New Year due to the Christmas holiday & renovations. KITCHEN RENOVATIONS The Evergreen Lounge Lower Kitchen will be undergoing renovations (new cabinets & countertops will be installed). Work begins on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013 through to Tuesday, January 8th, 2013. The Food Service will be closed during this period.
