SML – winding technology for coated
and laminated substrates
SML has a complete portfolio of surface and turret
winders for coating and laminating applications. For
example, its winder series W100 surface contact
winders are perfect for paper and fabrics produced
at lower speeds. The turret winder series W1200 is
designed for winding rolls in widths of up to 4,400mm
and the turret winder series W1000 for smaller widths
of up to 2,800mm. All these machines are characterised
by extremely robust design with strong, vibrationabsorbing
sidewalls for smooth, high-speed operation.
In addition, a separate PLC system with touch screen
allows winder integration into existing production lines
as stand-alone units.
Every SML winder can produce part bobbins with an
optional inline part bobbin cutting system. This permits
the omission of one step in the production chain. The
cross-cutting required for changeovers is completed
by a fl ying knife. Moreover, the winders can be
equipped with differing edge cutting systems such
as blade-cut, crush-cut or shear-cut.
On the turret winders, tension is controlled by means of
„dancer control“ with individually programmable
taper curves, which can be pre-set and modifi ed by the
operator. A fi x point duo at the inlet separates line tension
from winding tension. The turret winders also feature
central winding with a gap or contact mode. Gap winding
offers the accurate control of the entrapped air between
the individual layers of the web, while central winding
in the contact mode with a non-driven contact roller is
frequently used for the winding of coated fi lm, paper and
laminates, in order to produce perfect hard and compact
rolls.
A hydraulically operated roll handling system makes
life easier for machine operators, as the fi nished rolls
are placed on a moveable trolley from where they can
be picked up for subsequent conversion or transport.
A semiautomatic shaft extraction device is also available
as an option for the use of winding shafts.
