What are the trade-offs?<br />
• Every bus route would change<br />
• Some passengers would need to connect to<br />
other services where they don’t at present<br />
− About 10% of people would be affected<br />
in this way, mostly at off-peak times<br />
− Connections would be easier than they<br />
are now (see below)<br />
− We have tried to minimise the need<br />
to make connections<br />
• The new network would take some time<br />
to put in place.<br />
hoW Would connections Work?<br />
• Transfers between buses operated by the same<br />
company would be free, so the cost of a bus<br />
trip would be the same, even if you have<br />
to connect<br />
• Connections between core routes and<br />
local secondary routes would be planned,<br />
to minimise waiting times<br />
• Connections between core routes would<br />
be quick and easy, since these services would<br />
be frequent throughout the day<br />
• Major connection points (shown with a bus<br />
symbol on the maps) would have good shelter<br />
and Real Time Information screens providing<br />
up-to-date information<br />
• Northern suburbs passengers would have<br />
the option of connecting to a bus or a train<br />
in Johnsonville.<br />
What buses Would be used?<br />
• This proposal provides the opportunity,<br />
on some secondary routes, to use smaller<br />
buses that are more suited to narrow roads –<br />
we expect that these buses would have low<br />
floor access<br />
• Large buses would be used on the core routes<br />
• This proposal assumes that trolley buses would<br />
continue to be used in most areas that they<br />
are at present.<br />
