Hello everyone. The very first P&C meeting held
at the new and current site for the Dunedoo
School, took place 100 years ago in Craft’s Store
(according to my golf buddy, Barry Nott, who was
P&C President from 1982—1986). Charlie
Craft’s Store was on the site of Sullivan’s CRT.
I’m sure there would have been an air of excitement
and anticipation as everyone spoke about
how they could make the school a wonderful
learning centre for children.
Similarly, we had a very enjoyable, last P&C Meeting
for the year, last Thursday. A great group of
people who have given a lot of time to making
this place better for all children, celebrated the
year in style. I want to thank President Fiona
Taylor for her inspiration in leading a proactive
and dedicated team. Every P&C meeting this year
has been enjoyable with many issues discussed
from Uniform through to the Award Night. We
rely on opinions from parents to inform us on
how things are going, or whether things need improving,
and the P&C meeting is perfect for this.
I would also like to thank every member of the
committee for their work and also all parents who
have taken the time to attend our P&C meetings
this year.
Our School Captains, Annie Inder and Mitchell
Squire, have been busy as youth members of the
Australia Day Awards Committee. Coordinator
of the group, Barry Evans, is very keen to have a
student voice on the committee. He said he was
AWARD NIGHT
Tuesday 11th December,
6.30pm for 7.00pm start,
DCS Hall,
Everyone welcome!!
amazed at how much our young people know,
particularly about town issues.
We had our Dress Rehearsal for “Come Fly with
Me” on Friday and it was great. The outfits are
fabulous. Everyone will enjoy the show, it has a
fantastic range of music, good colour, great singing
and dancing, an appealing story and a great
deal of humour. The students are very excited
and staff are very happy with the progress.
Our teachers at present are finalising marks, writing
reports and making recommendations for
Award Night, in between rehearsals for the production
and teaching their normal classes.
The adverts for the two vacant teaching positions
close this Wednesday. Panels have been trained
and are ready to do their best to select the best
available candidates for the Primary position and
the Secondary English position.
We have new ramps being built around the
school. These will be built during the school holidays.
This year , with no external School Certificate Exam,
students who intend leaving school for apprenticeships
or work are required to sit the Literacy/Numeracy
Online Tests. This is a final credential
from school aimed at providing information
for future employers and TAFE.
Enjoy your week!
Years 3, 4, 5 & 6
Hi everyone, we’re excited about our production ‘Come Fly With Me’ this week! Please refer to your class
information for arrival times for Wednesday evening.
SRC Nominations for students in Years 4-6 close on Thursday. Please see me if you need another nomination
form. A reminder that the seconder on the form is the student’s parent or guardian. Forms then go to
Mr Campbell to be endorsed.
Next Monday and Tuesday, students in Year 5 who have nominated will give a short speech during our K-6
morning assembly. It is not envisaged that this will be a formal speech, but rather an opportunity for students
to introduce themselves, some of their school achievements and why they think they will be a good
leader at school. A short 30-second speech will be sufficient for this process. Any other questions, please see
me.
As part of our responsibility of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle at school, in consultation with the
pool canteen we ask that students bring no more than $3 to spend at the pool canteen on Friday afternoons.
We do not want to get into a situation where students go without a canteen lunch in order to have money to
spend on lollies at the canteen. A $3 limit will be strictly enforced at the pool on Fridays for the rest of term.
Get your tickets for the show! See you then. Mr Joel Wilson - Assistant Principal Primary
Year 3/4: Hello all, I hope you have your tickets to Wednesday night’s performance. There are not
many tickets left so get down to the front office and pick them up before you miss out. Last Friday’s dress
rehearsal went well and this week, the students will be putting their finishing touches on their act. We hope
you enjoy!
All students are required to be at school on Wednesday before 6.30pm. Please make sure you have had your
dinner and packed a drink bottle and snacks.
In class this week, we finish our assessments and in Maths, Year 3 will revise the weaker areas highlighted by
last week’s diagnostic test.
See you Wednesday night. Don’t forget students need to be dropped at the library by 6.30pm. Mr Ben
Kline
Year 4/5: We will be meeting on Wednesday evening in our classroom at 6.30pm. We will use our
classroom as our change room, before heading to the ‘green room’ (a little showbiz speak for the library) and
then onto stage. Boarding starts at 6.30pm, so parents can head straight onto the plane! Mr J Wilson
Year 5/6: Thanks to all the parents who've been able to help source our performance costumes.
Would parents please deliver their children to our classroom at 6.30pm on Wednesday night. Please ensure
you have dinner before your come and pack a drink bottle and snacks.
CULTURAL EXCHANGE DAY
Last Tuesday, November 13th, 35 international students and four staff members from the Chatswood Intensive
English Centre arrived in Dunedoo. These students were mainly Year 10 and 11 and were from Angola
via Brazil, Vietnam, India and 32 from mainland China.
Arriving at about 4.30pm, meant the first task was the setting up of tents at the Dunedoo Showground. Witnessing
this first hand illustrated to me that no matter what language is being spoken watching teenagers put up
tents is very similar. In groups of about 4, one person thought they knew exactly what to do, another knew
they were wrong and the other two just did what they were told.
Tents up and it was time for a BBQ dinner with the cattle at the saleyards singing. It was explained to the students
that the snags and steaks, being consumed were in the saleyard last week. The students were so enthralled
by the cattle that a quick phone call to Gus Stuart led to a late change of plans and a visit to the sale
was organised for the next day.
Although Tuesday night saw rain and strong wind they toughed it out and all except one tent survived.
Wednesday morning began with a lovely breakfast hosted by the Dunedoo Bowling Club. Arriving at DCS at
9.30am to work with our Year 10 and 11 students. Icebreaker activities were conducted with small groups interviewing
each other to find out about each other, where they were from, what they liked etc.
After morning tea we all went to the saleyards for a crash course in
how cattle sales work then back to DCS and lunchtime saw a number
of sports being played and more and more barriers being removed.
After lunch the Japanese staff members from Chatswood had 60 students
in the hospitality room and conducted a sushi making demonstration.
All students being involved in the making of sushi but not all students
took the opportunity of tasting it.
After sushi making and a quick African drumming demonstration.
it was time to say farewell to our new friends. They headed to the
Western Plains Zoo. It was a great opportunity for all students
involved and with all the positive feedback it is hoped it will become
a regular event. Mr V O’Brien
