Our school joined the “Kidz Fun
Fair” weekend with success
Where can we meet new parents
outside our school? At the Kidz Fun
Fair. Many thousands of visitors,
predominantly families, came to
visit this popular and unique family
event on Saturday and Sunday,
8./9. September 2011, held at the
SKW-Sportsground in Windhoek.
The interest at our stall inside the
sports hall was great, and we recieved
good feedback from parents
during the two days.

Dear parents, dear learners, as
you might have heard grade 11 is
aiming to go on a trip to Berlin in
April 2012 to visit our Partnerschool
in Berlin. This is a follow-up from a
visit we had from the grade 11 Berlin
learners in April 2011 to our school.
This partnership program is sponsored
by various organisiations that
also help to pay a large percentage
of the flight. Conditions are that we
propose an interesting theme that
the learners prepare and work on
during this visit.
We have decided to look at education
of the future. The pupils want
to investigate the needs of education,
the obstacles we face and
where the similarities/differences
are in Namibia or Europe. Of course
we also are adding artistic parts to
our workshop hoping to experience
cultural differences. Last but not
least experiencing Berlin itself is of
course a big highlight.
The class has set the aim to allow
all 17 pupils to go along – this of
course is quite a financial challenge.
So we decided to create an
event which could help fulfil this
aim.
Halloween day will happen at the
club Bliss, it will be a private event
where we will set the rules. Bliss
itself will provide security. During
the day we will be organising a
variety of games for children age
+10 (each game will cost 5N$), in
the evening we will host a party for
only age +18 visitors. We hope to
see many of you there and that we
all will have a day of fun!
Please be aware, that although
this event is hosted by grade 11 it
is not a school event – all responsibility
and organization lies with the
learners and parents of the class.

via Simone de Picciotto or all grade
11 pupils: 20N$ for the day event,
40N$ for evening party or at the

The Minister’s
visit to Berlin
The co-operation continues. Dr.
Abraham Iyambo, Minister of Education,
visited our partner FORUM
Berufsbildung in Berlin, Germany.
“On Tuesday Minister Iyambo
visited the FORUM Berufsbildung
Berlin, with his colleagues and experts,
together with Namibian diplomat,
Prof. Hasenclever as advisor
to the Dept. of Foreign Affairs, and
Mr. Bagwitz of the GIZ. Minister
Yyambo spoke to a filled auditorium
of students, lecturers and
colleagues of the FORUM, surrounded
by a contemporary exhibition
of the Goetheanum windows,
gloriously captivated on banners
and wall-hangings. Besides expressing
many heartfelt thoughts
of inter-action, and the hope for a
mutual cooperation with his native
land, Minister Iyambo called
Helmut Riethmüller his ‘brother’.
One needs to understand African
relations to know the difference
between ‘friend’ and ‘brother’!
– a global-spiritual moment – ....
I think this brotherliness is a valuable
foundation for our initiative,
and a small, modest contribution
towards the transformation of our
complex, struggling society.”

Frieder Münz
arrived in Namibia
We welcome Frieder Münz, former
principle of Anna-Sophie-School
(Würth Company/Germany).
He will assist us from the 3.10.–
2.12.2011 with the next steps
towards our vocational training
programme. Frieder Münz has
visited two Waldorf schools, Kassel
and Hibernia in Germany, both with
an established vocational training
programme in place. During the
next eight weeks, he will focus on
the following tasks at our school:
A) Table the Education Programme

B) Inventory of available workplaces
– creation of supplementary
list of equipment,

seinen ‘Bruder’. Wer die afrikanischen
Verhältnisse kennt, kennt
auch den Unterschied zwischen
Freund und Bruder! – a globalspiritual
moment – ..... Ich denke,
diese Bruderschaft ist ein wertvoller
Boden für unsere Initiative, als
ein kleiner bescheidener Beitrag
zur Verwandlung der mannigfaltigen
drachenhaften Untergründe
unseres jetzigen Menschseins.

Rudolf Steiner, Architect
Der Künstler und das Goetheanum
Rudolf Steiner was one of the most influential
but at the same time controversial social
reformers of the 20th Century. He founded
the anthroposophical movement, initiated
the Waldorf School, inspired artists such as
Mondrian, Kandinsky and Beuys, created
extraordinary furniture designs, and developed
a style of building that looks as if it had
come straight from the drawing board of a
contemporary architect. (From the Vitra Design

Rudolf Steiner ist einer der einflussreichsten,
aber auch umstrittensten Reformer
des 20. Jahrhunderts. Er begründete die
anthroposophische Bewegung, initiierte
die Waldorfschule, inspirierte Künstler wie
Mondrian, Kandinsky oder Beuys, schuf
außergewöhnliche Möbelentwürfe und
prägte einen Baustil, der wie eine Vorwegnahme
zeitgenössischer Architektur wirkt.

A space to house the spirit –
the Goetheanum
With the Goetheanum Rudolf Steiner achieved the realisation
of a space that could house the spirit. As subsequent
home to the School of Spiritual Science, the Goetheanum
would then become a place where people could
connect to the Spirit of the age, transforming ideas into
ideals that could inspire appropriate action.
The first Goetheaneum, a monumental double-domed
wooden structure, richly carved and painted within, was
begun in 1913. It opened in 1920 and was destroyed by
fire on New Year’s Eve 1922/23. In 1924 Rudolf Steiner
presented his model for a second Goetheanum – the
present one – made of reinforced concrete. Constructed
between 1925 and 1928, it was the first large-scale
building to employ this material for sculptural forms.
Both buildings are based on an architectural concept in
which each element, form and color bears an inner relation
to the whole and the whole flows organically into
its single elements in a process of metamorphosis. The
second Goetheanum and its neighboring buildings were
designed to harmonize with the local topography – the
movement of the terrain and the rocky spurs of the Jura
mountains visible from the Birs river valley, ten kilometers
south-east of Basel.
The high coloured windows and the central west window
reveal the presence of a large Auditorium behind
them. To look inside is to see at a glance what architecture,
in combination with interior design and the colour
effects of glass, is cabable of expressing.
Surrounding the Goetheanum are other structures in
an extensive garden: departmental buildings, studios, research
laboratories and an observatory; training centres
and a student dormitory; garden and other workshops
and construction offices; private houses, guest houses
and, at the foot of the hill, the “Speisehaus“, a restaurant.
Approximately 300 people work on the campus. Over
100.000 visitors come to the Goetheanum each year.
The Goetheanum is like a work of sculpture or a living
organism. It is a center for culture and encounter.

Rudolf Steiner verwirklichte mit dem Goetheanum einen
Ort, der dem Geist Raum gibt. In diesem Sinne biete das
Goetheanum als freie Hochschule für Geisteswissenschaft
die Möglichkeit, sich mit dem Geist der Zeit zu
verbinden, Ideen zu Idealen zu machen und aus ihnen zu
handeln.
Das erste Goetheanum, ein mächtiger Holzbau mit
zwei Kuppeln, geschnitzt und im Inneren bemalt, wurde
1913 begonnen, 1920 eröffnet und Silvester 1922/23
durch Brand zerstört. 1924 legte Rudolf Steiner das
Modell für das zweite, heutige
Goetheanum vor. Es
wurde 1925 bis 1928 in Eisenbeton
ausgeführt und war
der erste monumentale Bau,
der aus diesem Material in
plastisch gestaltender Form
errichtet wurde. Beiden liegt
ein Baustil zugrunde, bei
dem jeder Teil, jede Form,
jede Farbe in innerem Zusammenhang mit dem Ganzen
steht und das Ganze sich durch Metamorphosen
ins Einzelne gliedert. Das zweite Goetheanum und die
Nebenbauten entstanden zudem unter Berücksichtigung
der gegebenene Topographie, Geländebewegung
und Felsformation, wie sie sich hier in der Juralandschaft
des Birstals, zehn Kilometer südöstlich von Basel,
zeigen.
Die Hochfenster an den Flanken und das Westfenster
in der Mitte lassen erahnen, dass sich dahinter ein
großer Saal befindet. Ein Blick nach innen – Einblick in
das, was Architektur, Innengestaltung und die farbigen
Glasfenster dieses in sich geschlossenen Raumes auszudrücken
vermögen.
In einer weitläufigen Parkanlage um das Haus auf
dem Hügel liegen andere Häuser. Sektionsgebäude,
Ateliers, Forschungslabore und eine Sternwarte;
Ausbildungsstätten und Studentenwohnheim;
Gärtnerei, Werkstätten und Baubüros, Wohnhäuser,
Gästehäuser und am Fuß des Hügels das Speisehaus.
Über 300 Menschen arbeiten auf dem Campus.
Mehr als 100.000 Menschen besuchen das Goetheanum
jedes Jahr. Das Goetheanum gleicht einer großen Skulptur,
einem Lebewesen. Es ist ein Haus der Kultur und
Begegnung.

Site Manager
Since the middle of August 2011, Ricardo joined
our school as a Site Manager. He is in charge
of the school buildings, school premises and is
supervisor for our support staff.
Norman Skillen
Norman Skillen is a true friend and loyal supporter
of our high school. For the second visit
this year he taught a geography main lesson
in our grade 9 and worked on “King Lear” in
grade 12, as well as doing a pedagogical workshop
with the teachers. Thank you very much,
and see you back again next year! We all highly
appreciated his presence at school.

department for 15 months. We want to

and loyal personality in our office team.
