Man sentenced<br />
A Plymouth man was sentenced Thursday to<br />
5:9 years in jail after being found guilty<br />
/ - ^ of conspiring with others to deal in<br />
counterfeit U.S. currency.<br />
Arthur Acosta, 43, was sentenced by U.S.<br />
District Judge Lawrence Z<strong>at</strong>koff in federal court<br />
in Detroit.<br />
"The evidence presented <strong>at</strong> trial established<br />
th<strong>at</strong> coconspir<strong>at</strong>ors manufactured $400,000 of a<br />
specific type of counterfeit currency in Boston,<br />
Mass," said P<strong>at</strong>rick Corbett, the assistant U.S.<br />
<strong>at</strong>torney who prosecuted tbe case.<br />
The prosecution alleged the conspir<strong>at</strong>ors<br />
shipped $50,000 to $60,000 of the currency in two<br />
stages to Acosta in Michigan in exchange for a<br />
1968 Mercedes Benz.<br />
"After the counterfeit money arrived, tbe<br />
defendant on two occasions exchanged<br />
counterfeit money for stolen clothes," Corbett<br />
said. - *<br />
"The counterfeit money subsequently<br />
surfaced, after being passed as genuine <strong>at</strong><br />
loc<strong>at</strong>ions in Detroit, Saginaw. Flint and Lansing,<br />
as well as loc<strong>at</strong>ions in the Boston area and San<br />
Antonio, Texas."<br />
After the prison sentence, Acosta must face<br />
three years of supervised release, by Judge<br />
Z<strong>at</strong>kof f's sentence.<br />

At the Plymouth Historical Museum,<br />
the festival will be celebr<strong>at</strong>ed with special<br />
activities.<br />
Craftsmen will have wares on display th<strong>at</strong><br />
range from lace to violins.<br />
The museum will 2lso open a special exhibit<br />
titled "Tbe American Country School," which<br />
fe<strong>at</strong>ures Plymouth's educ<strong>at</strong>ional history from<br />
19th century to the present.<br />

Two major fond-raisers benefitting art and music<br />
occur this weekend during Plymouth's Fall Festival:<br />
Plymouth Community Arts Council's Artists and<br />
Craftsmen Show and Plymouth Symphony League's<br />
Antique Show and Preview Reception.<br />
The 29th annual Antique Show and Preview Reception<br />
hosted by the Plymouth Symphony League will be<br />
Sept 5-7 in the Plymouth Cultural Center. 525<br />
Farmer.<br />
American and European antiques, prints, folk art,<br />
est<strong>at</strong>e jewelry, silver, English brass and copper,<br />
linens, quilts and primitives, along with classic, Victorian,<br />
Early American and English country, will be exhibited<br />
by 25 antique dealers.<br />
By <strong>at</strong>tending tbe reception 7:30-10 p.m. Thursday,<br />
Plymouth Symphony supporters will have the first op- •<br />
port unity to buy antiques before the show opens to the<br />
general public Friday morning.<br />
Hors d'oeuvres, desserts and wine will be served.<br />
Tickets for the preview reception are $15 and include<br />
admission to the show on Friday and S<strong>at</strong>urday. Antique<br />
show hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 10<br />
a.m. to 6 p.m. S<strong>at</strong>urday.<br />
