• SCULPTURE FEST
Michigan Outdoor Sculpture ILL opens with a
5:30-8:30 p.m. reception Thursday. Sept. 5, at the
Southfield Pavilion, 20000 Evergreen, Southfield.
This exhibition of outdoor sculpture by 17 Michigan
artists is sponsored by the city of Southfield
and the Business Consortium for the Arts.
Louis G. Bedstone, architect and founder of
Bedstone Architects Inc. and Michael Curtis,
sculptor, are chairmen of the exhibition.
The juror was David PuchgotL executive director
of tbe International Sculpture Center. Awards
of $1,000 and $500 were donated by the Arts
Foundation of Michigan and the Business Consortium
for the Arts.
Artists represented include Joseph N. DeLauro
of Canton. Also: Herb Babcock, Robert Lie lat.
' James E. Born, Norma PeBchansky Glasser. Al
Hebert, Matthew Holland, Nancy Lelaerowitx, Susan
Linburg, William Mayer, Dora Natella, David
—Newton and James Oxford.
Others are: Thomas Palazzolo, John PieL William
C. Stone, Pamela M. Stump, Dale John
Wedig and Marcia Wood.
The outdoor exhibition, on the plaza at the back
of Southfield Pavilion in the Southfield Civic Center,
will continue through October.

The Friends of tbe Matthaei Botanical Gardens
invite all gardeners and others interested in
plants to tbe first fall gardeners sale 9 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7.
Among the featured items will be specimen
trees and shrubs, hardy chrysanthemums, bulbs
from Holland and orchids for in-home cultfvatioo.
The gardens will give complementary seedlings
to the first 100 adult patrons. .
ID addition to woody plant material, the sale
will include 80 varieties of Holland bulbs, which
cover a range of colors, heights and flowering
times.
The selection also includes 35 varieties of outdoor
hardy mums.
Proceeds from the sale support the gardens' educational
and environmental programs.
Matthaei Botanical Gardens is at 1800 N. Dixboro.
Take the Geddes Road exit off U.S. 23 and
go east to Dixboro. Tbe Gardens is two miles
north on Dixboro, on the right.

Livonia Symphony Orchestra is looking for
