Thursday, July 9 The Public Services Commission will host a meeting on Thursday, July, 9, starting at 5 p.m. at the Estate Ross/Barbel Plaza office in St. Thomas, VI. Friday, July 10 The V.I. Council on the Arts is conducting a series of “How to Apply” workshops for the August 31, 2009, grant submission deadline. Information on project and budget development will be discussed in detail. First time applicants are encouraged to attend. The workshop on St. Thomas will be Friday, July 10, at Norre Gade, at 5:30 p.m. For more information call the VICA’s St. Thomas office at 774-5984. Saturday, July 11 The John’s Folly Learning Institute is hosting an old-fashioned St. John pig roast and fish fry on Saturday, July 11, from noon to midnight at Sputnik’s in Coral Bay. Friday, July 24 The Virgin Islands Department of Agriculture announced a new grant program to fund projects that enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops. These include most fruits and vegetables that are grown in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008, also known as the 2008 Farm Bill, authorizes the USDA Marketing Service to provide grants to state departments of agriculture to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops and commodities. The level of funding available to the Virgin Islands is $163,162.42. The VIDA is seeking eligible applications that meet program guidelines by close of business on Friday, July 24. Friday, August 21 St. John parents wishing to enroll their children in public school for the 2009/2010 school year are advised of a change in the date of registration, which has been re-scheduled for Friday, August 21, at the Julius E. Sprauve School from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m. AA Meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meets as scheduled: Sundays, 9:45 a.m. at Hawksnest Bay Beach; Closed meeting for alcoholic only at Nazareth Lutheran Church at 5:30 on Tuesdays; Open meetings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 6 p.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cruz Bay; Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 6 p.m. at Emmaus Moravian Church, Coral Bay.
