XAntonio da Cudan:
Study in Space, 1980
A competition to find a sculpture
depicting Tapiola was launched in
1972. The entry submitted by the Italian
artist Da Cudan (b. 1940) was the
jury’s choice but the artist’s nationality
caused problems and delayed the
final implementation until 1980. Seen
from close-up one can recognise the
artist’s aphorism on the surface as well
as the handprint of his son.
YTapio Junno:
Dazzled, 1992
The sculpture by the Finnish artist
Tapio Junno (b. 1940), donated to the
city by the Art for Tapiola Society, is
dedicated to Heikki von Hertzen, one
of the founders of Tapiola. The urban
faceless Everyman stands frozen,
blinded under a gleaming light.
ZHeikki Konttinen:
Bride, 1983
Bride was given an award in the same
competition as Study in Space. Konttinen
(1910-1988) wished to depict
Tapiola’s early years when many
young people as well as slightly older
couples, including the artist and his
wife, moved to Tapiola.
