California Central Coast Porsche Club Of America July 2008
Porsche Mobil1 Supercup, round 6 at the French Grand Prix, Race report: 2:1
for Holland
Stuttgart. Great success for the Netherlands at the sixth round of the
Porsche Mobil1 Supercup on the Circuit de Nevers. At the 14-lap race on the
French Grand Prix track, first and second went to two Dutchman, Jeroen
Bleekemolen and Jaap van Lagen, ahead of Stefan Rosina from Slovakia. For
Bleekemolen, this marks his second win in France within one week. Last
Sunday, the 25-year-old claimed class victory at the legendary Le Mans 24
Hours at the wheel of the Porsche RS Spyder sports prototype.
For Frenchman Nicolas Armindo, however, the race in Magny-Cours was plagued
with bad luck. After the 26-year-old claimed pole position in his Porsche
911 GT3 Cup run by tolimit Motorsport, he stalled the engine of his vehicle
at the start and fell back to ninth place. Bleekemolen slipped into the
lead, having started from second on the grid, followed by his compatriot
Jaap van Lagen (Damac Kadach Racing Team) and Stefan Rosina (Slovakia,
Lechner Racing Bahrain). With an immaculate drive, Jeroen Bleekemolen left
his pursuers no chance to pass and took the flag after 24:38.828 minutes.
Van Lagen and Rosina saw the chequered flag in second and third position.
The fight for the following positions created a great deal of excitement.
Patrick Husiman (Netherlands, Irwin Racing) made an excellent start. The
four-time Supercup champion took up the race from eleventh to snatch fourth
at the first corner. Portugal’s Pedro Petiz (Racing Team Jetstream PZ
Essen), who had qualified his Porsche on fourth, spun in the first lap and
retired. Behind Huisman came a top class line-up of pursuers, led by Danny
Watts (Great Britain, SAS Lechner Racing), followed closely by Chris
Mamerow (Germany, Damac Kadach Racing Team), Uwe Alzen (Germany, SPS
Performance – PZ Aschaffenburg), Nicolas Armindo, René Rast (Germany,
VELTINS MRS Racing) and Jan Seyffarth (Germany, Konrad Motorsport). After
many changes of positions which saw Porsche specialist Alzen sometimes hold
fourth position, Huisman finally finished fourth. Ranking fifth and sixth
were Watts and Alzen, who delivered an exciting duel to the final lap.
Chris Mamerow crossed the finish line in seventh, followed by Jan Seyffarth
and Nicolas Armindo. The youngster Rast was sidelined in the eighth lap
with damage to his radiator after he hit the rear of Danny Watts’ Porsche.
Tenth position went to René Rast’s team mate, Norbert Siedler (Austria).
The next championship round of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup takes place on 6
July in Silverstone (Great Britain) as support to the British Grand Prix.
Jeroen Bleekemolen (winner): “In contrast to our soccer squad who lost
yesterday, I can return to the Netherlands with my head held high. But
seriously, the race went perfectly. Nicolas stood still at the start and
suddenly I found myself in the lead. That was somewhat strange. Jaap put a
lot of pressure on me from behind. But I was slightly faster and could hold
him at bay. I compliment him. He drove a very fair race. I’m happy it

California Central Coast Porsche Club Of America July 2008
turned out like this. This result is great for the championship.”
Jaap van Lagen (second): “One thing is certain: Holland played much better
today than yesterday. Two Dutchmen on the podium – that’s great. My start
was perfect and I could move into second at the first corner. Then I just
concentrated on what was in front of me. I had no chance against Jeroen. He
gave a brilliant performance for Holland, drove wonderfully and gave me no
chance to overtake. I’m happy with second position.”
Stefan Rosina (third): “I’m pleased I could bring home a good result as
thanks for my team’s great work. We have worked together for the last 18
months. It’s fantastic that we’ve finally achieved a podium result.”
Race result:
1. Jeroen Bleekemolen (NL), Jetstream Motorsport PZ Essen, 24:38.828 Min.
California Central Coast Porsche Club Of America July 2008
On June21 near this home located
somewhere in a quiet corner of our Central
Coast Posche World, is a “Party Barn”. It is
among other things, a gearhead’s dream
garage. (It could also be a “dog house” if
you’er in trouble at home).
But on this day in June, CCCR gathered
at and in this Barn for the 2008 Members’
BBQ. Free for members joined in the last 12 months and only $10/member for the rest of us.
Satuday morning, a bit of sleep, this event, sleep
a bit more and work from 3a.m. to 3 p.m. Sun-
day). The only two whose names I can remember
through my fog, are the Bero brothers Steven
and Michael (standing together at the right
of the group. You can “remind” me by email to
porsche@surfari.net. The car? Well I could tell you
it’s Alyce’s new ride, but I may be struck down for
untruths that I have spoke. The car is one of the
cars owned by our hosts, Jim and Carlen Eckford,
whose “party barn” we occupied this day.
This event, chaired by Activities Director,
Rick Mareina had a few twists, including a low
key car show, where prizes were given for some
off-beat catagories. Catagories like, “dirtiest”,
It gave new members a time to
be recognized and interface with
other members of CCCR. That said,
I’ve committed the cardinal sin of
not knowing the names of all these
new members as I should. If you’d
like to help in this regard, I’ll pub-
lish this pic again next month WITH
their names. Worst part is I believe
I met all the new members in this
picture. I guess there were too
many hours working this weekend
(until 3 a.m.).

California Central Coast Porsche Club Of America July 2008
Favorite 1989 and older, Favorite 1990 and newer, and best of the best, most mileage.
event. We walked around looking
at all the cars and made our selec-
tions, turned in the ballots to Rick and
Rhonda who counted them and then
awarded prizes. A car wash, a $50 gas
card, etc.
There was a raffle whereby each
participant was given a ticket and a
few were selected. Winners got items
such as decorative jars full of candy.
dream).
Marla (bottom of page 6) kept busy
with our Goodie Store. This lady does
a wonderful job of the Goodie Store.
Marla even spent the day at Buttonwil-
low, selling her/our wares to not only
CCCR but GGR and others. Besides, how
can you turn down a cute blond.
The judges for the car show were
the members participating in the BBQ
We toured the grounds and dreamt of our own garages (full of exotic machinery, after all it is a
The day could have been a bit cooler (in my opinion) an relief was not “just around the corner” as the
Central Coast of California was setting records for the hottest temperatures since beginning to record
temperatures in this area in 1947. Los Osos was 110, Diabo Canyon’s front gate in Avila Beach was 115. The
people at the Beach from the valley, came here to get out of the heat and found it higher than from where
they came.
Our thanks for this event goes to Rick and Rhonda) Mareina for chairing this event, Jim and Carlen
Eckford for hosting our group, and the Catering Unlimited.for the great meal.
Events Calendar
June 21st:
Our Junefest Motorama was a
huge success. The food was great and
we had a good turnout. It was rather
hot but not as hot as it had been earlier
in the week. The Eckfords were gracious host letting
us explore their beautiful property and the barn. The
car show was alot of fun and everyone seemed to
enjoy being a judge. The results were: Per took the
honor of having the dirtiest car and for that received
a $30 gift certificate from Magnum Mobile detailing
to have his car washed. The highest milage award
went to yours truly, 201,000 miles ( far and away the
most on the day) and I received a $60 gift certificate
from Strasse and Guys automotive for parts or ser-
vice. Thanks to them and Magnum for donating
to the club. The lowest milage award went to Keith
and Toni Williams, 14,000 miles and they received a
$50 gas card from costco. The best car 1989 or older
went Lee and Gail Wilson for their beautiful 1978 911
turbo which was just stunning and all original. They
received a year subcription to Excellence magazine.
The best car 1990 or newer went to Keven Nicols
with his red GT3, he also got a subcription to Excel-
lence. The best of the best award went to Graig and
Cathy Smith for their 1961 Carrera GT. This car wins
awards everywhere it goes, people just love it. It was
also a treat to have a new Carrera GT and the old.
They have come along way. They received a 2 year
subcription to Excellence. As you can see we had
some great prizes. I’m hoping to make this a yearly
event so if you missed this year, you really missed
out. Theres always next year.
July12th: This month join your freinds at
Dorns for breakfast in Morro Bay. Arrive for a 9:00
Once again I would like to thank Jim and Car-
California Central Coast Porsche Club Of America July 2008
works with what he has.
Coastalaire:
The year is half over and I’m still
hanging in there with the Coastalaire. A
little more time would be nice but one
I’ve gotten pictures from various members for
some events and believe me that helps as I’m not able
to attend every event.
Bob Kitamura for example, supplied several pic-
tures of taken at the Long Beach Grand Prix with cap-
tions. We’ve had these in the last two issues of Coasta-
laire.. Thanks Bob for the supply.
This month I’m running a bit behind due mostly to
my work schedule. As I type this I’ve got 4 days (eve-
nings) to get the newsletter to the printer. Yes, we have
a printer who also mails out the hard copy newsletters.
It is real benefit (to me at least) to have the news-
letter on the web. All I have to do is send an email with
a link to web-posted Coastalaire.
In that regard, I heard from one member (at the
New Member BBQ this last Saturday) that when he
prints the Coastalaire off the web, it DOES NOT print
the first two pages. If you’ve had the same problem
please email me at porsche@surfari.net and let me
know. If you found a cure for the problem, let me know
that as well, that I may help a fellow member.
Almost any weather on the Central Coast is
Porsche weather, but this last weekend raised doubts.
There is a popular meteorologist in our area named
Lindsey who report Friday that we had record tempera-
tures. The idea that Los Osos could get to 110 degrees,
and the Diablo Canyon front gate in Avila Beach 115, is
almost surreal. I hope all our members found a way to
survive that uncommonly hot few days.
Membership:
PCA National reports that are sent to me,
show that the CCCR has presently, 224 mem-
bers (read that as memberships) which include
224 primary members, 171 Affiliate members
for a total number of persons of 395.
The term affiliate in this case includes
both family members (spouse, child, nephew,
niece, grandmother, etc.) and affiliate members
which are simply NOT- family members.
These other-than-primary members are
this: when the application is submitted there
is the person listed as primary member and
a choice of either one family member OR an
affiliiate (sometimes referred to as associate)
member..
Recently, I was asked why PCA calls them
affiliate members. The thought here was the
loss of identity. So why do they have both fam-
ily and affiliate members.. Why don’t they just
have one name (my words here - like second
member). The last question, I cannot answer.
However, I’ve asked the difference in the family
and affiliate member.
I was told one difference is that an affiliate
member cannot be President of a Region or
higher, like Zone or PCA office holder.
The reason is that the affiliate does not
have a legal tie (normally) to the car. The car is
a requirement to the membership so all things
tie to that serial number.
You might change affiliate members but
changing spouses ......well.
Bob, Ed.
BIG SUR LIGHTSTATION TOUR
http://www.pointsur.org/
We’ll make the arduous and exciting drive up Hwy 1 to Big Sur and just beyond Andrew Molara Park
and the now deserted Naval Station. We’ll meet our guide and drive to “the rock” where we’ll park and
begin our tour. Our tour to the most haunted Lighthouse in California.
Have you wondered about this lighthouse (Lightstation)? Ever wanted to see it.
Now is your chance.
Bring some good walking shoes, a light jacket in case, some water and join us for the 1/2 mile walk up
300 feet to vist this Park. CCCR did this a few years ago, and I’m anxious to see what else has been done.
I love lighthouses and this one is one of my favorites.
The docent led tours/hike is wonderfully informative. It’s a kind of adventure to make this tour.
Weather can cancel the tour, but hey. If that happens we’ll just have to settle for the drive and lunch
somewhere. Bring you camera, binoculars, for the fabulous VIEW!
Join us for this great tour!
LIGHTHOUSE TOURS (from their webpage at www.bigsurcalifornia.org/pointsur.htm
The number of people allowed into Pt. Sur is limited to preserve the sense of isolation and
drama. Our group will meet in the parking lot at the base of Pt. Sur’s giant rock formation, where a
docent will lead us on a leisurely uphill walk to the lighthouse, a half mile away. We’ll have plenty of
time to climb the lighthouse tower for a look at the light itself, and to take a turn around the catwalk
outside the light tower. The walking tour consists of a rise in elevation of 360 feet and two stairways
of 40-60 steps each. The First Order Frenel lens from this station is in the Monterey Marine Museum.
WEATHER/CLOTHING
Be prepared for cold windy weather,
even in summer. Wear comfortable walking
shoes and layered clothing. Tours may be
cancelled du to extreme weather.
***We’ll meet at Morro Bay High School at 9:00 am for a prompt 9:30 departure.
***We’ll have a casual lunch and head to the lighthouse.. The walk is 1/2 mile each way and a
rise of 300 “.
Admission to the facility is $8.00 and the tour is 3 hours long.
There is a limit of 40 people so RSVP soon. I will maintain a waiting list.
BIG SUR LIGHTSTATION RUN
We’re heading to California’s most haunted Lighthouse.
This is the one you’ve seen everytime you took Hwy 1 to Monterey/Carmel area. That one over on the
left atop that big ol’ rock.
The rigid airship Macon went down near there in 1935.
