Sue Hetrick
Following graduation from KSU in 1969, I accepted a position as
counseling specialist at the Counseling and Group Resources
Center on the KSU campus. I worked there from 1969 until
summer of 1971, when I went to work with the Mental Health
Board of Portage County. I was Executive Director of the
Mental Health and Recovery Board for over 31 years, retiring
from that position in 2003. During my time with the Board, I
was active in the state association of county boards, serving as
president and as a member of the executive committee. I also
joined the Association of Behavioral Healthcare Management,
receiving certification in behavioral healthcare management. For
several years I was a Regional Governor of that organization and
served on the national board.
In addition to my work in mental health administration, I joined a group private practice. I am
still involved with Western Reserve Psychological Associates in Stow, Ohio. I see a variety of
clients, including children, adolescents, and adults. I also do some clinical consulting and
records reviews for the local mental health board.
My husband and I have two grown sons and I recently became a grandmother this January. Now
that we have more leisure time, we like to escape the Ohio cold weather by going to the beach in
Florida.
Memories:
Although it has been a long time since my days as a student, I have fond memories of our
favorite tension relievers:
(1) fun parties at faculty homes and grad student hovels;
(2) skits we did for the faculty, poking fun at our favorite people;
(3) the firecracker pranks….they made a lot of noise in file cabinet drawers;
(4) trips to EPA and MPA…sort of like going to camp and never getting any sleep.
