THE ORIGINAL
NON-STICK
FROM DUPONT
Discovered almost by accident by a DuPont
research chemist, Teflon ® grew from a
laboratory curiosity to a product that over
the years has changed the way literally
millions of people prepare their food.
For many of them, Teflon ® today is still
synonymous with quality convenient
non-stick cooking.
As one of the most recognised brands in the
world, Teflon ® has become the family that
unites and strengthens an entire range of
products, from cookware to carpet fibres,
clothing, lubricants and industrial components.
Throughout the world, consumers have
learned to connect the Teflon ® brand with
value, quality and performance. Which is
why all of our non-stick cookware coatings
have been brought together under the
Teflon ® banner, all sharing the same seal
design to create a family look, but with the
individual labels clearly identifying and
differentiating each product.
PLATINUM PRO
Durability for professional use
and the most serious cooks.
Introducing Teflon ® Platinum Pro –
found at the more commercial
end of the spectrum, it’s our
hardest working surface to date.
Scientifically developed in the
same fashion as Teflon ® Platinum,
Teflon ® Platinum Pro has a
new mid-coat technology where
added protective materials
actually help protect the
surface from abrasions.
Teflon ® Platinum Pro also
has a hard base and heavy
gauge toughening it up, making
it the perfect surface for
premium brand cookware.
So not only will it last, and look
new longer, Teflon ® Platinum Pro
will work as hard in the kitchen
as you do.
PLATINUM
The most scratch resistant
Teflon ® ever.
A technology breakthrough
enabled us to create Teflon ®
Platinum, the toughest Teflon ®
ever, and the first non-stick
cooking surface that can be
handled without special care.
By suspending particles of an
extremely hard mineral in a
matrix of Teflon ® , we have
developed a coating that allows
even metal utensils and abrasive
scouring pads to slide over the
surface without compromising
its non-stick properties.
Launched in time to meet the
new millennium, Teflon ®
Platinum took off with a bang
wherever it was introduced,
and is already an outstanding
sales success.
non-stick, easy-clean properties
of its predecessor, but with
significantly enhanced
durability.
This outstanding new surface
coating has been developed with
the serious cook in mind, who
Teflon
Non-Stick Surface
Only DuPont Teflon ®
non-stick is
the genuine article.
And it’s only found on
quality cookware.
Teflon ® was invented by DuPont in 1938, so it’s certainly
no ‘flash in the pan’. This amazing material has not only
revolutionised cookware but improved the performance of
many other objects including cutlery, paints, zippers,
even spacecraft.
Before any piece of cookware can bear the Teflon ® seal,
the manufacturer must qualify to be licensed by DuPont.
To qualify as a licensee, a manufacturer’s products must
pass a series of stringent tests to ensure the best non-stick
performance, durability and value.
There are many Teflon ® imitations on the market so make
sure your cookware carries a genuine DuPont Teflon ® seal.
If it doesn’t say Teflon ® then you’re simply not getting
Teflon ® quality.
Questions we’re often asked about genuine
DuPont Teflon ® non-stick surfaces.
Use and Care
Q. How do I care for cookware with a Teflon ®
non-stick surface?
• We recommend that the surface be ‘conditioned’ with a
thin coat of cooking oil before the first use and after the
cookware has been washed in a dishwasher.
• Wash with warm soapy water after each use. Although the
surface will appear to be clean with just a wipe of a paper
towel, soapy water will get rid of any grease or food
particles that may remain.
• Stubborn spots can be removed with a plastic puff or pad.
Although DuPont Teflon ® Platinum and Teflon ® Platinum Pro
can withstand abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, using
them should not be necessary.
• On DuPont Teflon ® Classic and Select, use only plastic, wooden
or nylon utensils. Teflon ® Platinum and Teflon ® Platinum Pro
are metal-resistant, so it’s safe to use metal utensils. On all
surfaces, avoid cutting food in the pan.
Cooking
Q. Why are medium to low cooking temperatures
recommended for DuPont Teflon ® non-stick surfaces?
• As they perform beautifully with medium to low cooking
temperatures, DuPont Teflon ® non-stick surfaces allow for
energy-savings and more environmentally friendly cooking.
As an additional benefit, medium heat achieves the best
cooking results. Generally, high heat doesn’t cook faster,
it just wastes energy.
Q. Can a DuPont Teflon ® non-stick surface be over-heated?
• DuPont Teflon ® non-stick surfaces can be heated continuously
at temperatures of up to 260ºC without damage.
• Like all non-stick surfaces, deterioration can occur if
a pan is left on a continuous heat of more than 260ºC for
a prolonged period of time. This temperature alone is well
above the normal cooking range; as a comparison, fats,
butter and cooking oil will begin to scorch and smoke
at about 200°C.
Safety
Q. How safe are DuPont Teflon ® non-stick surfaces?
• DuPont has for many years placed top priority on
protecting the safety and health of employees, customers,
and the public. Consistent with those values, prior to their
market introduction all products are evaluated for potential
hazards, including testing of many products at the
company’s Haskell Laboratory for Health and Environmental
Sciences. This includes extensive testing of all DuPont
non-stick products used in consumer applications.
• The United States Food and Drug Administration has
found them acceptable for conventional kitchen use, as
have health regulatory agencies throughout the world.
DuPont knows of no record of serious, chronic or acute
health problems related to the use of non-stick cookware.
Q. Can fumes from over-heated cookware be dangerous?
• All fumes can be harmful. However, fumes from an
over-heated DuPont non-stick coating are no more harmful
to people than fumes from over-heated cooking oils. Fumes
from over-heated Teflon ® cookware do not contain ozone
depleting substances including CFCs.
Q. What if someone accidentally eats a particle of a
non-stick surface?
• DuPont non-stick coatings are specially formulated to
resist chipping and peeling. This will only happen if the
cookware has been misused. However, if it should occur
and particles are accidentally consumed, there is no
danger. The material is non-toxic and inert so it will pass
directly through the body without being absorbed – just
like food fibre. In addition, the Food and Drug
Administration has stated that consuming these particles
poses no health threat.
A healthy decision.
Genuine DuPont Teflon ® non-stick surfaces provide virtually
fat-free and oil-free cooking and we all know that less fat means
less calories and cholesterol. So not only is it easier to cook with
Teflon ® , it’s healthier too.
