(bb)
Mit Ghiro Ghiro Tondo bieten Yervant
Gianikian und Angela Ricci Lucchi (Atelier VdR
2000) einen ausgezeichneten Einstieg in ihr
Werk an. In ihrem neuesten Film stellen die
Autoren von Prigioneri della guerra, Su
tutte le vette è pace und Oh! Uomo katalogartig
eine zu Beginn der 1970er Jahre entdeckte
Sammlung von Kinderspielzeug aus
fast 50 Jahren vom Ende des Ersten Weltkrieges
bis in die 1950er Jahre vor.
Während das surrende Geräusch der Videokamera
und der Atem des Filmemachers zu
vernehmen sind, ziehen, behutsam gehandhabt,
Karussells, Handpuppen, Bauspiele,
Küchengeräte, verrenkte Babypuppen, Bleisoldaten,
Kriegsspiele und Krippenfiguren aus
verschiedensten Materialien an uns vorüber:
Holz, Eisen, Plastik, Stoff, Zelluloid undWachs
in den zartesten oder grellsten Farben.
Ein berückender Reigen!
Und welch starker Bezug zum Werk „der“
Gianikian, die seit mehr als 20 Jahren damit
beschäftigt sind, durch die Aufmischung dokumentarischen
oder privaten Archivmaterials
die Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts neu zu
schreiben und dabei die stets im Hintergrund
lauernden faschistischen und kriegshetzerischen
Ideologien zu brandmarken! Ein weiteres
Mal der Einfluss von Vereinfachungen
sozialer, politischer oder religiöser Art am
Beispiel „unschuldiger“ Spiele.
Requiem. (bb – Übersetzung: hvg)
TENDANCES | 291
With Ghiro Ghiro Tondo, Yervant Gianikian
and Angela Ricci (Atelier VdR 2000) provide
an excellent key to their work. In this last film,
the filmmakers of Prigioneri della guerra,
Su tutte le vette è pace and Oh! Uomo
explore, in the mode of a catalogue, a collection
of children's toys discovered at the
beginning of the 70s, which covers nearly half
a century: from the end of the FirstWorldWar
to the 50s.
Accompanied by the dry sound of the video
camera and the breath of the filmmaker, a
procession of delicately handled, carousels,
puppets, construction games, kitchen utensils,
dislocated puppets, lead soldiers, war
games and nativity scene figures file past...
the materials of which vary widely! Wood,
metal, plastic, cloth, celluloid and wax painted
in the mellowest and the loudest colours.
A hypnotic dance!
But what is the link with the work of the
Gianikians, who for more than twenty years,
have sought to re-write, through re-editing
documentary or personal archives, the history
of the 20th century denouncing the fascist
and bellicose ideologies that are still
ready to re-emerge? Once again, the hold of
simplistic social, political or religious beliefs
expressed through the most "innocent"
games. But also the ”this has been”, dear to
Roland Barthes, who reminds us that other
hands have played with these toys, hands that
have disappeared or have been broken or
manipulated by the madness of men. A true
requiem. (bb – Translation: pbe)
