Bodies of two
brothers found
hanging

JAMMU, Jan 2: Two brothers
allegedly committed suicide by
hanging themselves after a quarrel
in their house in Raipur, Satwari.
Police spokesman said that,
body of 31-year-old Harvinder
Singh, son of Buta Ram of
Raipura, Satwari was found hanging
from a ceiling fan at his room
yesterday.
His body was shifted to
Government Medical College and
Hospital (GMCH), where after
postmortem the body was handed
over to legal heirs for last rites, he
added.
Meanwhile, family members
later found the body of his 25year-old
bother Amarjeet Singh
hanging from a tree at the back of
the house today.
He was shifted to Government
Medical College and Hospital
(GMCH), where doctors declared
him as brought dead.
A case has been registered at
concerned police station and
investigation started to ascertain
the reason behind such extreme
steps by the brothers.
Protest at
Thanamandi

RAJOURI, Jan 2: The people
today held protest demonstration
on the road at
Thanamandi against the
PMGSY authorities.
The people from Manial and
Dhok villages came out on
Rajouri-Thanamandi road near
Shahdara Morh and raised barricades
during the day. They held
protest demonstration against the
R&B Department and its
PMGSY wing authorities. They
alleged that concerned officials
have abandoned work on Manial-
Dhok road being constructed
under PMGSY.
They alleged that the road has
not been completed but authorities
started withdrawing machinery.
They disrupted the movement
of traffic for more than three
hours on this road. Later,
Tehsildar Thanamandi Anil
Sharma went there and assured
the people to take up the issue
with the concerned authorities.
Executive Engineer PMGSY,
Rajouri assured the public that
work will be resumed on the road
shortly. The people then lifted
dharna.
Man buried alive

UDHAMPUR, Jan 2: A person
was buried alive as walls of
an under construction septic
tank caved in Army area.
He was identified as
Kuldeep, son of Kala Ram of
Moud, tehsil Chenani, at present
Birmah Pull, Udhampur.
His body was shifted to
District Hospital Udhampur,
where after postmortem, it was
handed over to legal heirs for
last rites.

WASHINGTON, Jan 2:
Scientists analysing
Australian rocks claim to have
discovered traces of bacteria that
lived a record-breaking 3.49 billion
years ago, a mere billion
years after Earth formed.
"These traces of bacteria are
the oldest fossils ever described.
Those are our oldest ancestors,"
said Nora Noffke, a biogeochemist
at Old Dominion
University in Norfolk who was
part of the group that made the
find in Western Australia's
Pilbara region.
If the fossils are proved to be
this old, it could move scientists
one step closer to understanding
the first chapters of life on Earth.

Vidyalaya Sangathan Regional

news item published in the
December 14, 2012 edition of
this paper under the caption
KVS officials misusing official
position as alleged by one
INTUC leader.
Refuting the news item the
Assistant Commissioner
/Deputy Commissioner KVS
Jammu, A S Gill said that
INTUC is not existing in KVS
instead staff of the KVS is affiliated
with their own KVS
Welfare Association. He said
the KVS is strictly following
the CCS (CCA) rule 1965 and
the erring employee if any is
dealt in terms of this rule.
He said in case any employee
feels that injustice has been
done to him by the competent
authority he is free to follow the
proper channel of appeal higher
Appellant Authority of KVS as
well as Reversionary Authority
of the organization. This way no
Fundamental Right of any
employee of the Sangthan is
violated, he added.
He said the news item is not
based on facts as all employees
of KVS are addressed through
Grievances Officer Cell and
RTI Cell at all levels in the
organization.

People protest
against power cut

POONCH, Jan 2: The
inhabitants of various localities
in Poonch today held a demonstration
in protest against long
duration power cuts in the area.
According to reports the
inhabitants of Mohalla Purani
Poonch, Khaka Nawan, Khalsa
Chowk, Shanke Nagar, Mohalla
Panditan, Bagichi Mohalla and
Khori Nar held a demonstration
against 14 hour power cut in the
area.
The demonstrators, while
shouting slogans against the
PDD authorities alleged that
power remained off from 6 am
to 8pm in these localities.

NEW DELHI, Jan 2:
Government has imposed
around five per cent cut in the
Rs 1.93 lakh crore defence
budget this year in view of economic
slowdown.
The Ministry of Finance
recently conveyed to the
Defence Ministry that there
would be a cut of around Rs
10,000 crore in the Rs 1.93 lakh
crore allocated for the defence
sector, Ministry officials said
here.
After the cut in budget, several
key acquisition plans of the
three forces including the procurement
of 126 combat aircraft
for the IAF are expected to be
pushed for the next fiscal, they
said.

Five per cent cut in
defence budget
Theft case worked out

JAMMU, Jan 2: Police
today worked out a theft case
and arrested the accused along
with stolen goods worth Rs 1.5
lakh.
Police spokesman said that
on December 20, 2012 one
Ravinder Kumar, son of
Damodhar Singh of Bathindi
lodged a written complaint with
Bathindi Police Post that some
thieve(s) barged into his house
and decamped with gold ornaments
and other goods worth Rs
1.5 lakh.
Accordingly, a case was registered
and during the course of
investigation Bathindi Police
rounded up a suspect namely
Javed Ahmed, son of Mohd
Ramzan of Gandoh, who was
presently putting up in Bathindi
area.
During questioning, Javed
Ahmed confessed that he had
stolen goods from the house of
the complainant. On his disclosure,
police recovered all the
stolen items.

Girl injured as
cooker explodes

NOWSHERA, Jan 2: A
minor girl was injured after a
steam-cooker exploded in the
kitchen of one Dalip Singh at
village Mogla in Kalakote area
of district Rajouri today.
Police said the mishap took
place when the girl was working
in the kitchen. Suddenly, the
cooker exploded with big bang
and its pieces caused serious
injuries to Dalip’s daughter-
Aksha Devi. She was rushed to
Mogla hospital and later referred
to Govt Medical College
Hospital, Jammu. Her condition
was stated to be serious.
EGoM likely to discuss
spectrum auction today
NEW DELHI, Jan 2:
The Empowered Group of
Ministers on telecom is scheduled
to meet tomorrow to discuss
modalities about the spectrum
sale due this fiscal.
"The meeting is scheduled
for Thursday," sources said.
The EGoM, headed by
Finance P Chidambaram, will
discuss the auction plan prepared
by the Department of
Telecommunications (DoT)
after Cabinet approved the sale
of unsold GSM spectrum in
1800 Mhz band and in the premium
900 Mhz spectrum band.
