Seventh Annual Run and Walk Against Hunger
Join 4,000 runners and walkers, burn calories, have a great time on the scenic
Stockton waterfront, and help raise money for holiday nutrition programs of the
Emergency Food Bank. This annual event takes place on Thanksgiving morning,
Thursday, Nov. 24 and starts at Stockton Ports Baseball Park and Stockton Arena,
with goodies and food provided inside the scenic Stockton Ports Ballpark, 404 W.
Fremont (at Lincoln St.), Downtown Stockton Waterfront, Stockton.
The schedule is 8 a.m. for the kids’ 1/4 Mile Run; 8:20 a..m., opening comments;
8:30 a.m., the 5K Run, 5K Walk (walk not timed), and 10K Run.
The 5K Run/Walk and 10K Run begin at the Stockton Ports’ waterfront ballpark
and proceeds along both sides of the Stockton Deepwater Channel, past the Weber
Point Event Center and out the Deepwater Channel along Weber Street. It returns
on the same route, finishing by circling the beautiful Stockton Arena, with the finish
line at the ballpark. Walkers have their own scenic waterfront course along the
promenade.
This year, there will be no awards ceremony on the morning of the event. Results
will be posted on www.onyourmarkevents.com, and winners can pick up their
awards at Fleet Feet, Stockton or, upon request, they will be mailed. Awards will be
for the 5K and 10K runs only, and for the top three places in each age group,12 and
under, 13 to 18, 19 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 and over,
male and female. Overall M/F 10K winners receive Brooks jackets and duffle bags.
All kids’ run participants, age 9 and under, will receive ribbons at the event.
For safety, no dogs, bicycles, skateboards, or roller blades on the course, please.
Strollers for kids and wheelchairs are welcome, but please line up behind all runners!

Women’s Center of San Joaquin Receives Grant
The Women’s Center of San Joaquin County (WCSJC) has been chosen to receive
a $20,000 grant from The Mary Kay Foundation as part of the organization’s annual
$3 million national domestic violence grant program. The Women’s Center of
San Joaquin County is one of 150 domestic violence organizations participating in
the program. The grant will be used to support the Women’s Center’s “Just for Kids”
program that takes place at the Dawn House and Tree House shelters.
“This grant is a blessing to the Women’s Center of San Joaquin County in a variety
of ways,” says Joelle Gomez, WCSJC executive director. “Not only does it make
up for a deficit in funding this year, but it gives us hope and strength to continue
what we do. Domestic violence is not going away and deserves very serious attention.
Programs to help battered women and their children require a lot of resources.
That’s why we are so thankful The Mary Kay Foundation is helping us help families
in Stockton.”
