instruction in the building of godly character. An emphasis
of instruction within the teaching program is to conform
one’s will to the will of God as found within the Word of
God. The only way to do this is to challenge adult believers
to look into the mirror of truth found within the scriptures
with a willingness to change through the process of
repentance, or a change of thinking. Changed thinking
leads to a change of lifestyle! Solomon said it like this,
“For as he (a man) thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs
23:7, NAS). And Paul added,
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye
may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and
they have been hurt through past relationships. They
consequently have become unwilling to open their hearts to
the Word of God. When a new convert enters the church,
they are naturally open and teachable. It is fairly easy to
work with them individually or in a small group, thus
making a powerful impact on their lives. It is in the
beginning of their walk in God that the learning of
fundamentals is vital, and it is possible to work through the
problem areas of life, coming to maturity and wholeness in
God.
Third, adults need to be taught practical ministry. That
is, they need to have courses on how the gifts of the Holy
Spirit work, how to study the Word of God effectively, and
